What about checking the date inside the helmet? Some are over one year old when you buy it and then the manufacturer recommends they are replaced at 5 years old!!

This is super important and very underrated! The structural integrity of a helmet deteriorates over time and by 5 years time, no manufacturer can guarantee the same safety in the helmet from day 1 to year 5. I usually replace my helmet every 2-3 years as things like sweat, salt, and weather can all contribute to a quicker end life of the helmet. I work in a bike shop and have seen some bad accidents with helmets that, unfortunately, didn't do their job due to their age.

It really depends on the use of the helmet as stated by Walker Bikes. If they just sat in storage before you bought it, you can pretty much disregard the production date, a bit like tires. It's when left outside to the sun, rain and sweat that the foam will deteriorate.

Is the retention system designed to keep the helmet in place in a crash or is it to keep it in place in normal riding or drinking coffee in a cafe?

Lazer tonic MIPS not too expensive either.

I have an unusually lumpy scull and every helmet I have ever tried causes severe pain after a short while. It would take a special custom mold to make me a helmet so I don't wear helmet. I do wear a cycling cap.

Try a HEXR - with an app (has to be on an IOS mobile) it scans your heand and then the helmet is 3D printed to the exact contours of your head. Perfect fit. Uses a honeycomb structure and the material is made from caster oil so is recycleable.

Is it possible to assemble it ourselves Does it come with a manual Also, does the cycle come with all the tools required to assemble it

Should you not encourage cyclist to wear a bright coloured helmet and not black?

I'm looking for a bike helmet with a visor. It must have a good safety rating and the visir must stop any wind from reaching the eyes. I have heard that many helmets with a visor has a problem with wind streams.

Way too heavy and you can't breathe in them either I'd give it less than a mile before you fainted.

I will never buy a helmet without trying it on first.
