    I tested most of the features and read about them during development but everything happened into separate branches, separate threads and over long time period. Frankly, I had at this point no big picture in mind of all work done on Krita beta 5... But now thanks to your very well made video, I could finally measure the big differences all this threads and merge request, refactors did in comparison to the 4.x series. So, thank you very much Wojtryb! And by the way, great accomplishment for compressing all this content into less than 8 minutes! 👍

    Thank you for commenting David! For some reason I managed to remember all those things I was reading about on KA and developer chat. Maybe that's because I tested them all at once recently - when prealpha stopped crashing for me on regular basis. At first I thought there might not be that much to talk about, as the main feature being "resource rewrite" is not that visually attractive, but no - all those smaller changes together form a very strong improvement. I'd say that krita major releases just reached a magnitute of usual releases of blender - which is rather insane considering the pace of blender devs novadays ;)

    This looks very good. I have really come to love Krita, so much that I actually prefer it over Clip Studio Paint, which used to be my daily driver for illustration. I am not a brush creator in Krita yet, but these new modes probably will make the engine even more impressive. I am sure Ramon Miranda will come up with some amazing brushes! The interface improvements and the transformation changes are also great to have.

  • @wojtryb

    @wojtryb

    2 жыл бұрын

    You know, everyone has their own idea on what's the only thing missing in krita that would make them fully switch to krita. I've heard about "normal" eraser by default, clipping masks as alpha inheritance is "unintuitive", smart shapes, fully realtime gradient maps, 3D model poser and many more small and huge new features. You can't have them all - luckily we have a good maintainer with a vision who can decide on what would bring the most benefit to the biggest amount of users with reasonable amount of work :)

  • @jensenraylight8011
    @jensenraylight80112 жыл бұрын

    krita already cover 80% of my use case, but if krita have on click multi layer selection, and multi layer transform without having to use grouping first, i would be satisfied, and put a blind eye over the other missing feature. i don't know why this is still not a priority yet, this single feature could bring a lot of newcomer into krita

  • @wojtryb

    @wojtryb

    2 жыл бұрын

    I don't really know what you mean by multi layer selection - you can select multiple layers with ctrl, shift, using shift+r to do that on canvas, instead of layer docker. There even is a plugin on KA for selecting multiple layers with dragging over the layer docker. In terms of layer transform - I think one GSOC student was working on some operations for multiple selected layers for krita 5.1, but I'm not sure they managed to complete this specific task with smaller than usual budget by Google. I don't know why those specific two features should be a priority. With 4 mln Krita users, there are 433 officially requested wishes, 185 confirmed to be done "when it's time". But apart from that there is also 580 known bugs that needs fixing. Each day brings 2 or 3 new bugs that need verifying and then fixing. Most of work is done by 10 people currently working in krita, which can get smaller with lower than usual income from stores. The priority for those paid devs is mostly polishing krita 5 and fixing bugs, as most people who dump krita, do it because of crashes, and performance issues, not lack of one specific thing. I've seen lots of people thinking that krita is missing only one specific feature, but for some reason, each of them wants something else :)

  • @jensenraylight8011

    @@wojtryb Thanks for the information, i don't know about that "shift+r". i already do some testing, and it works like charm, i think this would makes my workflow much faster, i can select multiple layer ,group it and transform with 3 shortcut this made my day a lot better. good to hear that the dev are working on the multiple layer transform in krita 5.1. well, because people are automatically think that you can select the layer by clicking the object on the canvas with the move tool, when it doesn't work that way, i got panic. i already search for multi layer selection online, and found nothing, until today, i learn that you can do that with "shift+r" i already converted full time to krita from photoshop, i think krita done a great job, the features are well thought out, and krita have a lot of unique feature that makes photoshop feels unintuitive for painting, i never got a single crash, and the software are polished i should thank for all of the developer who work tirelessly creating an awesome painting program

  • @wojtryb

    @wojtryb

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jensenraylight8011 those canvas inputs are really easy to miss. I'm not sure what exact features related to multiple layer operations will be included in 5.1, but transforming many layers at once was requested multiple times on KA, so I believe the proproty is relatively high. And yeah, the devs apart from being great and hard-working programmers are also very supportive and kind people. They deserve a lot of love and recognition of their work.

    Templates are krita documents you can load to start a new document. You cannot specify their size while loading them. First you should create a template with "File > Create template from image" on the document you have. Then after you open this template with "file > new image", use the ctrl+alt+c shortcut to resize the canvas. You can also resize it before you save a template of you use one resolution more often than others, or create templates for each common resolution you use.

I guess that's something that Blender is better suited for, and it may not be worth too much development in Krita which is more oriented on traditional frame-by-frame animation. But you could ask them on KA on current development plans in animation.

    Krita already has layers styles. Not all the of the PS ones are implemented, but there are quite a few to use. I think that from 5.0 they will be considered a resource, so you will be able to save and load layer style presets.

    Great! Luckily krita and other 2D painting softwares don't need GPU, so it doesn't matter they are out of stock :)

    thats nice and all but there's still missing basic features like centering/alignment for layers and its really annoying

    I think that was already requested on krita-artists, but it's not on a TO-DO list. With krita being mainly a painting app, I guess it's not really considered a basic feature. You can still bring this topic on the forum once again,
