One of the problems was that the Villain Academia arc is considering boring by many manga readers, and they shuffled order in this season, leaving that arc for the second half instead of the first as it should have been. And it seems obvious even for anime only fans.

I thought this was a pretty good season. I was aware of some of the cut content and I do agree that the filler episode would have been better off as an OVA outside of the episode lineup so that an extra episode could have been given to either the Endeavour Training or MVA arcs, but it still had its awesome and poignant moments. My favorite episodes of this season were 9, 10, 18, 22, 23, 24 and 25. I don't want to overhype season 6 because I can only hope the studio perfectly does it justice, but if they do it just right...I'm not usually one for big battles but the War Arc is 🔥. If it gives you all the possible feels, then it'll have been done right.

Can we take a minute to appreciate the fact that Hawks singlehandedly is givig a fighting chance to everyone

On the note about Shiggy seeming more mature when dealing with the beaten Re-Destro, take note of his voice acting. It's a lot more obvious in the dub, but he clearly changes vocal styles to be more mature and sinister once he's "awakened" (which is an actual shift in the Manga, since before the fight all his speech bubbles are jagged and unhinged, whereas afterwards they've slid into a more All For One style)

This really was the season that demonstrated how great the character writing and story is. Tying things back to season 1 such as Aizawa's strictness, the Midoriya doctor situation and Kurogiri being a Nomu is just mind blowing considering how minor those moments were in the grand scheme of things.

Don't forget Bakugou's development

The issue with this season, especially the second half, is that frist: they restructured the complete second season, tossing arcs around to accommodate the movie, which hurt the pacing and even some sub-stories. This caused, for example, that it was in the manga a while NOT clear that Hawks was on the side of the heros, making him much more interesting. But also, it was clear that the MHA arc would lead to a teaming up of the LA and the LoV, which was a total surprise in the manga. Other stuff is skipped content. Spinner had a whole backstory that made him a fan favourite that was cut apart from his final statement. Also, missed tid bits that creates the theory that Tomura got his quirk from AfO, making the idea that this was all a set up just that more impactful. It was simply that the elements were drawn out in parts, than a complete filler episode, to then cut content from one of the most important arcs of the show - it just leaves a sour note. Edit: Also just reread a bit of the MHA arc, and boy, I have forgotten how much they removed from the setup, like the commercial background of the Liberation Front and the brutal introduction of Re-Destro.

What I will never understand is why they rushed MVA out of the 3 arcs this season adaptated, when it is the most important of the 3 by a long shot. Rushing the Class A vc B arc would have made much more sense and less impactful stuff would have been missed.

@@ShortLeaf but only very briefly and in the back of the scene. We literally meer re-destro first while evaluating a commercial and then killing Hi employee for mocking the liberation army and the original destro to then go to a meeting with the commanders. It was such an amazing and strong intro.

@@ProjectIceman Maybe. And the final result was actually good, it got me excited for the season. And then MVA started and I stopped being anime only.

Honestly this was a really good season and I liked it a lot. Sure maybe at times the animation was a little down and some stuff was cut, but as an anime only person I feel it was fine. Not my favorite overall so far, which is season 4. But honestly I'm so happy to just have the anime in general. Super hyped for whenever season 6 happens and great video as usual! :D

The cut content (specifically from MVA) was really the only problem I had with this season, and I easily solved this problem simply by reading what I missed afterwards. I don't usually have any problems with animation. I care more about what's going on rather than how good it looks. Even the arc switch had some legitimate advantages beyond just for the movie's sake, and I had already been spoiled on MVA's outcome before the season began. Personally, this is probably my third favorite season right behind 4 (my #1) and 2.

Yeah cut content was my biggest issue. I still loved it because I love the show, but sad that we had just been spoiled by the show adapting almost every panel. Hope spinner gets some justice!

Personally, this season is at the bottom of my list for sure. My reasons are basically the same as everybody so I'm not going to sugarcoat it. This season just didn't do it for me. I'm grateful enough that we at least got the season; but with how things were handled....it was better off without it. The other two comments in this thread already mentioned it; but the cut content was a heavy blow. As somebody who appreciates the minor characters like spinner, that sucked; plus the other details that would've had anime-only theorizing like crazy. Again, I'm grateful enough anyways. I don't want to come off as a blind hater; but the expectations were high. Not as high as season 6, but very high nonetheless. I'm honestly concerned about how they handle season 6. I'm caught up with the manga; it should be straight fire every episode (the upcoming war arc as you saw at the end of season 5). But I heard that another movie was in the works? Seriously? Most of season 6 should be mainly one arc anyways but that still has a heavy impact on the quality. Season 6 needs to have that quality; season 5 may have been a disappointment but it was bearable. If they give season 6 the same treatment, that's going to be devastating. I know it may sound like a lot, but we need a Jujutsu Kaisen-level of quality with the content that season 6 will adapt.

Hey man, reaching out through comments for lack of an alternative; my late wife encouraged me to get in touch with you about your videos and this is me giving it a shot. She was an American army brat that grew up in Japan and between her and I, we noticed alot of things that don't translate well without additional context. I'm paused at Midoriya's first word wall win because when the lady says she can't understand him, it's for the fact that a run on Japanese sentence becomes an absolute knot of words for even a local to decipher with the subject-first, verb-last nature of speech; Midoriya is essentially talking about ten things in two parts simultaneously, hence her being comically impressed that Endeavour could clearly follow the young man's torrent of word vomit. I don't want money or recognition or anything even of the nature, I would just like to help with little cultural things like this. I loved this season. Especially Tomura's backstory. And it's great to see people's reaction to it.

I think a missed win was Nejire holding Eri when Mirio and Amajiki went to get Aizawa. She knows that Eri's quirk could manifest and delete her from existence, yet she still comforted her.

As a mostly anime only, I really loved this season. Probably my third favorite season right behind 4 and 2. The only problem I really had with it was the cut content from MVA, but it wasn't a problem for long because I simply read the parts I missed afterwards in the manga. The arc switch didn't bother me either because I had already been spoiled on MVA's outcome before the season even started, and besides some of the spoilers for MVA, there were some legitimate advantages to switching the arcs beyond just for the sake of the movie. I also didn't have any issues with animation, but that's mainly because I care more about what's actually happening rather than how good it looks. Overall, I really don't think this season is "bad". The manga version is objectively better in many ways and this season could also have been better, but it's still possible to enjoy it. As an adaptation, it falls a a little more flat compared to the other seasons, but I still think it's a good season of a phenomenal standalone anime.

Season 5 second half is probably my favorite part of MHA because it’s focused on the league of Villains. The league of Villains members have such great personalities

I miss Shigiraki's dog, even though we just met the furball. Only thing that took care of him other than his mother

My issues with this season were that MVA got cut short to fit into 5 episodes while Joint Training got 10, despite them being similar chapter length in the manga. There was more context for the Meta Liberation Army in the manga, and smaller stuff like expansion on Spinner’s character was removed in the anime. The arc switch was whatever, but if they were trying to build up MVA then they should have made it longer than 5 episodes. That being said: Sad Man’s Parade, Shigaraki’s backstory, and Shigaraki’s awakening were top tier moments and i am still pleasantly surprised at how amazingly adapted and barely censored his backstory was in the anime Ultimately, I’m glad people enjoyed it for what it was, but if you wanna experience it from the manga, start from 218. it goes from the villains Bakugo and Todoroki fought after getting their licenses and segways into MVA. I’d give it a read for the extra content and the art (seriously, MHA’s manga art is breathtaking, so impressive for a series that publishes chapters weekly) Here’s to Season 6 being amazing :)

This season was definitely not bad like a lot say, however a lot of things were not done correctly and full justice to the manga. A lot of people didn't enjoy the class A Vs Class B which is a fair opinion, but the problems were due to adding fillers that was not needed, the rearrange of arcs and the numerous unnecessary flashbacks. The movie was the reason to the rearrangement, which normally shouldn't be a priority or even affect the anime. All of this resulted in a rushed MVA adaptation. The final eps were incredibly amazing and well done, but lots of core content were removed or diluted and the tone was not really close to what the manga gives. In the end, I still loved a lot of moments in this season and it was a solid one with more mistakes than usual. I can't wait for season 6 and if Bones go hard it will probably be the best season easily.

What I like about when Natsu walks out of the room with Fuyumi, Todoroki, Deku and Bakugo is that Natsu straight up walking about out of the room even managed to shock Bakugo

Cool fact: the docter working for the leauge of villans is also the doctor that told midoria he had no quirk all the way back in season 1 episode 1!

17:25 Fun fact: in the manga, Todoroki’s mom tried to cool down his burn by using her ice, but that just made it worse, since it caused it to leave the scar

@@glark7368 I find that part to be a little weird honestly. Only the audience gets to see it after so long of being told BY SHOTO HIMSELF that the scar was caused by the boiling water. It also doesn't change that she accidentally gave him the scar and she still felt bad about doing what she did. I do get the emotional importance behind it and it does explain why the scar is as bad as it is, I just don't think it's something that's "necessary" at a point where it has little to no specific importance with what was going on outside of the flashback.

Episode 16 of season 4 was sudtle advertisment for the 3rd movie. I think they should have left that as a ova type of episode. I also dont like that they changed the arc orders.

Oh the second movie takes place after the villain arc, before Shigaraki gets his operation, and after he healed up. By that time Deku, Shoto and Bakugo hadn’t done their internship with Endeavor yet but Black Whip already made itself known. You’ll recognize Shigaraki’s red coat and the black covering over his fingers, that is really a prosthetic. The anime cut it out but Redestro ended up blasting 3 of Shigaraki’s fingers off, which is why he felt safe grabbing him by the hand since he thought he needed all 5.

I’m gonna wait till I finish watching the season…but I swear somebody better make a Doofenshmirtz reference at Re-Destro’s expense.

Yeah. While it could have been better, I wouldn't call anything we got truly "bad". The only major problem I think is the cut content, and this problem can easily be solved by just reading the parts you missed afterwards. I think they adapted the MOST essential parts for the story going forward, and what we did get was adapted pretty well for the most part. Even the arc switch had some legitimate advantages beyond just for the sake of the movie (and it didn't bother me at all because I had already been spoiled on MVA's outcome before the season even began). As a mostly anime only, I loved this season. Probably my third favorite right behind 4 and 2. I cannot wait for season 6. I'm generally easy to please, so I have no doubt that I'll still love it. I'll be reading the manga version alongside it so I don't miss anything and get the full experience (after watching an episode, I'll read the adapted chapters).

Well, I overall don't have a problem with the season, the only thing I very much dislike is the introduction to the My Villain Academia Arc. They skipped the Narration of Spinner (which gave more character to him as well) and they skipped the Introduction of Re-Destro. Also, I am not a fan of the Episode with Selkie, which was a filler for the movie, otherwise I liked the season. Anyway, great video as always :)

Aizawa’s comment about becoming a teacher so his students wouldn’t throw their lives away like Shirakumo, but that he was always hoping they would become as noble as Shirakumo had been was absolutely crushing.

58:25 you see, that Promised Neverland comparison is actually extremely spot on Even anime-onlies could tell the adaptation of TPN was shitty, because it was all so goddamn over the place. But here, it actually sticks *just* close enough to the manga so that you could not notice all the problems it had. For manga-readers though, the manga and anime versions are like night and day. The animation in itself isn't that bad, but oh god the pacing and storytelling of MVA and Endeavour Agency were so fucked, it hurts. In videos like these, I love watching the change in all of the characters from the first season. Such a drastic difference and to think the story is still going. I absolutely love this anime!

I love these as recaps and pointing out small details I missed but i can’t get over you not winning the scene where Shigaraki flips onto the wall and dusts a bunch of people.

I know the vast majority of this is the villain side of things, but when it comes to the first part, with the hellish family dinner, yeah, that all hit really close to home for me. 😅

Also I recommend watching shigiraki’s awakening in dub as well as in the manga Horokoshi starts to change his speech bubbles after this and in the dub makes it a lot more clearer when telling the difference but also given the time from when season 5 finished to you posting the video now is a real shocker and i never expected this to come out as soon as it did. I’m also glad you’ve been able to enjoy this season as much as you have even though a majority of the fandom hasn’t.

To be honest when i started MHA I thought it was just okay. I liked some of the characters and it seemed lighthearted and fun, but after becoming a manga reader the my villain arc that was the ending of this season coupled together with what happens in the next arc has shot MHA at least into my top 10. Major props to the mangaka for this incredible series, and oh boy I hope the anime only fans are getting hype. Season 6 is gonna be a wild ride!!!

The moment that shot mha up for me was season 3 ep 23, when Bakugou confessed his thoughts. Still my top 5 fight ever.

I'm really glad this season took some time to focus on the villains so that we get to know some of them a bit more personal. To me, this made this helped flesh out their characters a bit more

One small really cool detail is the fact that the hands Shigaraki was wearing were obviously not from his family. He broke them completely. There was nothing left. All For One just created those hands (where he got them from no idea) and gave them to him as yet another bit of manipulation

This video just proves that the season isn't all "bad". Doesn't matter if it could have been better, there's still so many good things in what we got.

Same here. It's fine if some people didn't really like Season 5 and if someone has a different opinion; I kind of wish they had gone a bit more in-depth with MVA. But I'm sick of those aggressive fans who are all, "This season was terrible! I'm quitting MHA or going back to the manga because this show has gone to s***!"

@@whitneybennett5076 agreed. The way I see it, this is a case where people should experience both versions. Despite the MVA arc objectively being better in the manga, the anime did some things very well, some if it actually being better than the manga. Each version has their own advantages over the other, and each make up for whatever the other one does “bad” compared to the other. The same will probably be the same for season 6. It won’t be perfect and will probably not adapt a lot of things very well and maybe even cut some things out. But I have no doubt in my mind that there will be some moments where we get some great animation and visuals, even some extra scenes/details that weren’t even in the manga.

and did you notice that all of his family died in the way they treated him... his sister died with her back turned after encouraging him, his grandparents died looking on, his mum died trying to help but too late, his dad died hitting him. probably the best backstory as to why someone went to the "dark side" like if your life was so effed up and someone reached out a helping hand you would take it if only cos you have never seen that hand before.

People often complain how they didn't do more, but I think what they did was good enough. Anime doesn't have as much freedom as the manga does to do stuff like that all the time.

Win #403 actually has something I don't think you noticed, I actually didn't notice it until I rewatched the season! Back when Eraser and Mic are in the room with Kuroguri and the one word Shirakumo said was Hospital when they asked who altered him. Then at Win #403 the keyword is hospital. See what they did there? I think its super subtle but 10000% genius

The kid that appeared at the end of the last episode is not a new character, he's there to show that all might is still inspiring people to go on like Aizawa said, he thinks he can manage first grade after seeing all might's statue. The hate or the season coming from us manga fans is simple, it's not the animation (at least not from me), but the fact that they reconstructed the arcs of the second half and made a filler episode just to promote the movie. The villain academia arc was suposed to come before of the endevor ark, you can see that bc of the scenes where they spoil you that no one from the league died during the assault of deika, also they had to constantly do time jumps that made no sense just to fit this new order

The only disadvantage to the arc switch I can really think of is the spoiling of MVA's outcome. Even then, they kept a lot hidden (people can skip the opening, so the argument about them hiding the MLA members' faces but showing them in the opening is stupid). Technically, we didn't know any more than the heroes did at that point, and it looked more like the league had joined up with the Liberation instead pretty much the opposite. Not to mention that they showed us the entire league being alive so you knew that they didnt die, also the villain academia ark was cut short and it was supposed to be from spinners perspective, but in the anime deku is the one narrating

@@nicolaspereyra420 What I meant was people complained about them showing the members' faces in the opening, but kept them hidden in the EA arc, and I'm saying that isn't a bad thing because people can skip the opening. I have seen plenty of anime reactors who skipped the opening not just for copyright reasons, but also to avoid spoilers.

Your videos are always a great watch keep it up also I think it's time for one piece going one arc at time it would take a long time but it would be great

One thing that I see being set up is a possible foil between Shigaraki and Eri. They were both raised by villains, one from birth, the other adopted by All for One, and their Quirks are near perfect opposites which can produce similar results. Shigaraki rapidly ages whatever he touches, Eri rapidly de-ages whatever she touches while her quirk is active. They can both erase people from existence and have done so accidentally as children. Eri desperately doesn't want to do this and is heroic in that effort, while Shigaraki breaks and embraces his power to become a villain in full.

Also I honestly believe my hero mangaka's largest skill, is how quickly and smoothly he can jump gears. Like from the most chill and relaxing episodes, super light hearted, next episode is deadly, almost losing characters, and none of it feels forced.

As an anime only this was my favourite season idk what I missed out on cause I don’t like reading manga but I’m pretty sure that nothing too important was cut out and if it was it sure didn’t feel like it

(Lot of reading, sorry) I don’t think you missed out on TOO much. It was mostly some characterization for Spinner and Re-Destro. For example, Re-Destro cried when he learned Curious had died, he killed an assistant in his company when he said he didn’t agree with Liberation ideals, but also cried after that. It’s also revealed that the support items we saw the villains who fought Todoroki and Bakugo use were created by Deternat, and they blew up so they wouldn’t be traced back to the company. For Spinner, it was revealed that he was starting to doubt whether he should stay in the league because there was no trace of Stain’s ideals, and it was also sort of revealed that he’s been a victim of discrimination because of his quirk. They also cut out a part of a flashback showing Shoto’ as mom using her quirk on him to try and heal his face after pouring the water, which is the real reason why his scar is as bad as it is. There some other cuts and changes, but not really anything major beyond what I just mentioned. Now that you know that, there’s less incentive to read the manga, although I still think it does enhance the overall experience, but I wouldn’t say it’s “necessary”. I personally loved the season as well. Probably my third favorite right behind 4 and 2.

This was a good season, I think most of the hate is from Manga readers who were spoiled when compared to the anime for this arc. The manga definitely did better on this than the anime did.

Anyone else noticed that Aizawa’s teaching method is exactly like Kakashi’s bell test? Like if their students fail, they will be put back into the system and learn form their mistakes instead of failing people just to fail them. Thought it was a really cool thing to notice.

S5 E17 hit me so hard and was so close to home for me that I had to actually pause it and come back to it later that day

About the "hate": In the manga, the Villain Arc (My Villain Academia) was given way more airtime relative than in the anime. They added a few... fanservice scenes again, that added nothing (Unironic beach scene...) The entire thing with Tomura was downplayed, hard. The scene with him on the table was a lot less... graphic than in the manga which I can understand. Tomura awakening his Quirk at 5yo was HEAVILY censored as well. To put it as simply as possible: Tomura couldn't dust blood.

It was an amazing season beyond that. The way they animated Blackwhip was perfect, and the voices were impeccable. The action scenes were a lot more fluid, and the, what I like to call hyperaction scenes (Think Izuku + Bakugou vs Nine, or Iida vs Honenuki, or even Izuku + Eri vs Overhaul) were so much more refined.

If you wanna know more of Shirakumo and Aizawa's past you could (and should) read MHA Vigilantes: Illegals or at least from chapter 59, where Aizawa's arc starts. Its stupidly awesome. Really enjoy your content, btw haha

If you want more MHA greatness, I know you love great visuals and character writing, you’ll get more from the manga even only going through the content that the anime has already covered. There’s a lot the anime does right but for one reason or another some visuals don’t come up to snuff and some content is cut, so I hope you check out the manga and continue to enjoy the anime. I highly advise you take your usual care to detail with the art

Mha manga has amazing art

My problem with this season is the same as with what other people have been saying, how the anime reordered things or just remove them. People in the comments already said the small stuff, but the big thing of the MVA arc really was a bad call. Like when Endeavor heard about how the villains in the anime then by the time the MVA arc starts you already know the general result of it. That it all felt like some big thing that was spoiled from before the arc started. In the manga with Endeavor learning about the villains was to play on how smart Hawks is in spreading information to other heroes. If there was anything missing from this video is about Tomura's dad. Cause from what everything we have been given at least from what I remember is that Tomura's dad was hard on his kids when it came to liking heroes, never anything that would be straight up abuse. But then came that day, when he found out his kids found the picture of their grandma and he just snapped. And a single abusive action scarred Tomura for life and killing the rest of the family. What makes the events here all the more brilliant is that by that and with Endeavor shows things like abuse being more complex than the typical "abuse is done by heartless people" that I would see in most media. And like how complexities shaped the story with Endeavor the same happens with Tomura's father. That he was hurt by his mother leaving him never to come back, that lead him to not liking heroes. What's more that should be noted his how this event in Tomura's life is described as, "One bad day". Which is a clear call out to one of the most popular villains of all time The Joker. With "One bad day" being used to what made The Joker into The Joker, being the same thing that made Tomura the villain he is. Which I think makes Tomura a better villain since his "One bad day" is a straight solid story that holds it all together while The Joker has been usually as told as being "multiple choice" with his origin.

Eh... okay I'll be the obligatory annoying manga reader to complain, they switched up the arcs and cut a bunch of stuff out of the season so if you want to see more I highly recommend it. That being said I gotta say seeing my favourite moment of the entire series, shigarakis backstory and awakening just in its full glory was actually amazing. I love shigaraki and its amazing to me how incredibly realized this character is, from starting out as just an impulsive manchild lashing out, to this fully competent villain, sucessor to afo is amazing.

I couldn't agree more with Win 270 and Bakugo being dumb-struck from the driver shouting back. That was fantastic. :D I also like the name duality of Kurogiri (black mist) and Shirakumo (white cloud)... if I'm not mistaken. It's quite haunting how you see Shigaraki's backstory and then have "Woah, woah, it's alright, everything will be alright [...] Now that we are here!" in the opening. That really hammers home why and how much he despises heroes in general and All Might with his catchphrase in particular. It turned most people into sheep who won't lift a finger "because a hero will be here soon"... just like that older lady who almost helped him, but then got scared away by his looks and/or the blood. I have read the manga and I can't understand the hate either... not a single clue. *shrug* I also don't get why people complained about the "beach episode" when the episode was action and character-development for the vast majority of it and maybe 3 mintues combined beach/bikini content... but people on the internet will be people on the internet.

I normally skip advertising however since its Anime wins I'm willing to download raid shadow legends for him and not skip ads

My brother spoiled who Toya really is for me back in season 2, because he read the manga and correctly guessed it, but I will say you can tell from that picture just change the color of the hair from white to black and you will know exactly who Toya Todoroki is.
