Everything But The Chip: The 2001 76ers
Спорт
This retrospective takes an in-depth look at one of the most eventful and rewarding seasons in 76ers history. The talented team made it all the way to the NBA Finals, led by 2001 MVP Allen Iverson and 2001 NBA Coach of the Year Larry Brown.

Allen Iverson had an immeasurable impact on the NBA culture that still resonates to this day. One of the best ever.

Huh? How. AI is one of the most overrated players ever. Seriously, immeasurable impact? For a player who is all "me", "I". Im the star, im the starter, why would i practice?, why would I come off the bench , evennif coming off the bench is the best for the team , butts heads with the coach, antagonize media? Look at who his "ways" have influenced: melo anthony, james harden, westrbrook, maybe kyrie (without Lebron). Last time i checked, they aint winners, "me" attitude, cant accept coming off the bench past their primes... immeasurable impact on what? He has a cancerous personality in a team, "me" over team, style of play cant win... yes he is barely 6 ft with a big heart battling giants but that is about it.

Damn .... u a dirty mufu..... but damn if I didn't start laughing out loud!!!! It's crazy to see many NBA players go from being in tip top shape to looking like diabetes is right around corner for them / I guess they feel like they have been training and competing from such a young age that now they can let themselves go ... crazy/ and let's be honest _ AI looks like his diet consists of Double Staked Cheeseburgers and Fries himself and said not fu#k practice but Fu#k going to the gym .....
When I met Allen Iverson as an adult he was so nice I remember I was so flooded with emotions from how much I idolized him as a child. I couldn’t even formulate words the only thing I could do was say Thank You.
I still can't get over at how amazing 50:51 is; only because Allen Iverson was coached by Larry Brown. Larry Brown was coached by Dean Smith. Then, Dean Smith was coached by Phog Allen... and finally, Phog Allen was coached by the creator and inventor of the sport we now know as basketball, which is, James Naismith. They practically kept passing their skillset and techniques of the game, through generations... and it shows in Allen Iverson's IQ. Especially after his 2001 NBA season. That means if Iverson were to coach in some form or fashion. Just know he's passing on something to you that was handed by the inventor of basketball. Pretty mind blowing, to think about.
AI is truly the pound for pound GOAT.

Iverson had his flaws but he was an athletic freak. football star in high school. Probably could have starred in any sport. amazing balance and quickness. We have seen other great little guys but I have not seen any little guy attack and finish above the rim relentlessly like a young iverson. There was that, and he never seemed to get tired while playing huge minutes and getting knocked to the floor regularly. Its not like he was getting great rest and recovery,/nutrition between games either. Didnt lift weights. He was out drinking and partying a lot. Eating taco bell, hot dogs, soda lol

My all time fav!!!!
That lil dude carried a whole franchise for years!!! He a champ to me!
A.I your my basketball your HERO, and the only I hated Lakers so much at 1 point coz of that who also felt that pain back then and when they started changing perspective after that memorable 2000-2001 season; especially those who gave to the organization but the slogan itself provides a different like trusting the about what trading those guys who already had solid team chemistry just like Larry brown and pat would ever imagine it only took what 2-3 years to accomplish and go for rebuilding. Then Nuggets Happen. that's why all of the karmas that plague 76ers till now was because of that betrayal of trust by deciding to rebuild. But still thanks the answer for making me imagine ever to play like you like having that shooting sleeve even though imma leftypeace out.
If the 6ers kept Larry Hughes that series against the Lakers could've gone 6-7 games & who know wgat might happen

The only wrong move that they made that season is trading theo for dikembe. Theo is the defensive player that year and blocking shots and running n fastbreak. Dikembe was too slow for the way they play. They only did that because they are preparing for shaq. But they still have geiger and todd, so i think theo is the perfect fit.

I'll give them the Chip that year as well. Going against the city of LA, Kobe, Shaq, the refs, the NBA, and still doing what he did means the 76ers were the best team that season. We saw what the NBA and refs were willing to do for the LAL team against Sacramento, no way they were gonna let AI take the Chip that year. So the people give it to him.

AI was more like 5'11 but I see your point. I think his attitude rubbed people the wrong way, due to his stint in prison. If he was clean cut with a brash attitude, he'd get praised from the jump. However in 01, he won the world over with his play and playoff run.💯💯
PSA: I was there, I watched it, was at the games, saw his cultural impact, saw him be unapologetic, when it matter most to black people. He will always be a legend PERIOD!.....But in 2023 there is one thing I know for show after looking back...Allen Iverson should have left the 76ers. They wasted years of his talent. How the fuck are you benching the best player on your team..I always said larry brown wanted to do things his way, and not realize the value iverson had... In the end,, it got larry brown kicked out the NBA...You can't bench the only great player you got just because you have a ego.... In iversons early years....he should have went to 3 teams...Magic, SPurs, or Blazers...And he would have 3 championships...EASY...
