I ended up making a baby gate that was ~4-1/2 feet tall with PVC pipe. Instead of screwing the connections together, I loosely screwed them. it added some flexibility to the whole thing and allowed me to "hook closure" with the wall that wouldn't come undone. even with a 70# German Shepherd jumped up against it, but was easy enough for us humans to open.

I am splitting my sides laughing with the comments here .... 😂 , I may need an ambulance 😂 , " plastic pipe glue " is £5 - £10 for a tiny tin ( for water pipes ) ( ordinary glue won't stick ) , the glue melts the plastic to give a welded type of joint , when cutting pipes for water , use a small round file to remove the frayed edge on the inside of the pipe to prevent debris from collecting and causing a jam , plastic pipes will last 100 years or more , so the expense is only worth it if you want a long term fitting for your grand-children , the size of pipe shown here is too bendy to hold any weight , use 1 & 3/4 inch (approx) size plastic pipe much less bendy for wet heavy clothes , if the pipes are not filled with water then much simpler and less expensive is to use screws to hold the corners , ( 3 way ) ( connecters very expensive ) however you do need to be creative with the saw to fit the corners , cut a half circle in the end of the pipe on both sides to make a half cup shape , a little bit like a horse saddle type of shape , then the screws can be put in at 45° on each side to hold the joint together , sorry I won't be doing a video on utube of how to make things as I am trying to escape from the geriatric clinic on my Zimmer Frame and the nurse has a 24 hr guard on the exit , cctv everywhere , I tried tying the sheets and towels together to make a rope ladder to climb out of the window , but I could not get the Zimmer Frame through the small window 😮 , planning my next escape .... oooohh , must go , nurse is heading this way .... 😮😮😮 .... add on edit .... IMPORTANT .... if you are going to use screws on plastic pipes then drill the hole for the screw so you don't split the plastic pipe , 4 mm dia screw thread , 3 mm dia screw core , drill 3 mm hole in side of pipe for a tight fit .... 😮😮😮

A Walmart towel rack is cheaper and folds
With the rise in price of PVC in the past 2 years, it will not be worth it, especially when it will become brittle in time
Got to be schedule 40 to hold wet stuff without sagging
Each pvc pipe (according to the rack price shown at the start of the video) is $6.98. Multiply that by the number of pipes needed, add the cost of the 2 types of 3-way connectors, PVC cement (if you don't want this stupid thing constantly falling apart on you) and you'll see how insanely expensive this DIY "drying rack" costs to make! A portable clothes rack at Walmart that can be used for the same purpose costs about $20. Does this DIY project makes sense to you?
Don't think the demand for pvc is going up after watching it
Until it gets brittle and breaks. It's also not welded and will fall apart easily. I wouldn't bother with this cheap idea. Probably can buy a better one for cheaper

My husband is a plumber. He would kill me if I used this much money in stock for a clothes rack. I can buy one much cheaper.
Everybody leave him alone, he’s a man who just wanted to build something 💀
you don't know how bad this idea makes me want to run to home Depot to by PVC pipe, cause there's nothing else I'd rather build then this genius idea. But I would probably save a lot of money by hanging things over my porch railing instead lol
I have to agree with most people saying that this project is a waste of time and money. About 5 years ago my dog kept jumping our baby gate.
This takes up much more room than my lenght of cord i carry in my backpack to use as a clothes line.
The only problem with this is you end up with one more thing to try and find room for in the already cluttered house
Dude just reinvented a $3 laundry line technique
GOOD WORK! NOW MAKE IT COLLAPSIBLE OR RETRACTABLE FOR STORAGE, CHEAPER, AND EASIER TO CONSTRUCT.
I’m a crafter and many of my “things” I have made with pvc pipe!!!! Love it.

Amazon has one for 8.99. And it folds up.
I would have paid any amount of money for materials to keep my grandson safe. My grandson was too tall at a year old for all the baby gates sold in stores and online. I made a baby gate out of PVC pipe 3 and 1/2 feet tall. He never climbed over it. He is now a 6'8" tall young man.
Watch me turn $100 of pvc pipe into a $5 rack.
Just lost my clothes pole to old age. I love to hang my clothes out perfect. You made my day. Thank you.
Yeah, Amazon sells this but it’s also collapsible!! What am I supposed to do with this pvc pipe rack when not in use?!🤦🏼♀️😂
When the thing you built costs twice as much as the thing you can buy:

Welcome to 1985. Next you'll be showing us how to make shelves with cinder block and 2x4.
Disappointment in the end result 👇
Everyone WILL NOT be buying PVC pipe...😮
this is really neat and easy but PVC has gotten really expensive. it's non-biodegradable and cannot be repurposed. you can use wood which is biodegradable and can be used for other things. you can use the PVC elbows and couplings with wood if you must.
Doubt it. Cheaper to buy
Depends on the expense of buying all that pvc and spray paint, compared to the price of buying a rack...
Isn't just cheaper buying a clothing rack?
Dont use 1/2”. Use a minimum of 3/4”.
IT USE TO BE LESS EXPENSIVE TO MAKE IT OURSELVES BUT Things are getting more expensive because where us honest people have to buy them from... the thieves have made the prices go up!!! SO maybe this video was made BC(BEFORE COVID)!!! THIS IS A GREAT VIDEO!!!
Should be titled "How to waste an hour of your time and $50 in materials to create something that can be purchased for $10!"
I got my drying rack for $12 from Ikea and it folds up and easily hides away when not in use. There are so many more economical products on the market. Though I love playing with pvc, sometimes it isn't worth it, especially since it's tripled in price. The last thing I planned out would have been about $40 to make, I settled for the $18 Amazon item that did the same thing.
PVC prices make this project unworthy of the effort.
Tip, don't spray paint the PVC while your clothes and hanging on the rack, it will leave voids on the pipes.
For the cost of the pipe and joiners it is way cheaper to buy a collapsible drying rack. Common sense.
The idea is good, however definitely not economical, unless you have an unlimited supply of pvc pipes, time and skills to do it.
