Avoid purchasing LTT Screw drivers; they are overpriced and of poor quality. Instead, consider investing in a Klein Tools Precision Screwdriver, which comes with 27 bits for $20. It's a simple way to get things done, but personally I'd rather get a smart plug. All of mine have a timer function, which is a little less convenient, but it's around $10 per instead of $30. It could also be programmed with a schedule, for example, only starting charging later so that it finishes charging shortly before you need it, or periodic short charging cycles for something that's plugged in indefinitely.

While I agree personally, from watching WAN show and listening to how they do stuff, I feel like these comments are pointless. They know which videos get the most views better than anyone. So if they start producing something you feel is not worth watching, it probably means there are a huge number of people who think it is worth watching. Thus, when you say "we" care about this content, it means almost nothing. The replies you get will be from the people who agree with you and the (potentially huge) proportion of the population who disagrees will remain silent

As the local system integrator, I use one of the rechargeable blow-e-matrons all the time. Makes cleaning up used parts FAR faster than by hand and cheaper than canned air. Without the concerns with condensation or over-pressure from a compressor. Paired with microfiber cloths, spray cleaner, electrical cleaner, a toothbrush, rubbing alcohol, etc ... Covers 99% of those needs. Mine was less than $25usd on Amazon. - I also get asked by customers regularly about how often and how to clean their PCs and send them a link. A regular blow-dust can go a long way towards keeping thermals under control and increasing hardware lifespan.

You could certainly do that, but I'm not sure for most folks it would actually be a better solution for the problem it is supposed to solve by its naming. As it would still need a timer to turn back on and top the self discharge back up, and if using it as LTT seem to intend to - as a common controller for a whole bunch of devices the current will drop erratically as some devices finish, or when using it for something that slow charges only the current might be rather small and hard to read anyway.

1:00 what i do is i look at the batteries, match voltage, increase capacity, put together a bulky enclosure in cad, print that, make a makeshift temporary connection to the motherboard or gadget (permanent) and tape it secure onto the device as an external battery pack. i have increased capacity by 5x on my old cameras this way. only downside is that it's semi permanent so i do have to cut the tape, pull the cells, charge them 2 at a time and reinstall the whole thing. but damn it worth the hassle to have 4-5 hours of use time instead of 20 minutes. 18650s rock! you find them in portable vacuum cleaners, drill batteries, basically anything portable that runs on electricity and people throw away after a year or so. also if you aren't afraid of sticky fruity quite possibly toxic liquids and saliva, you can find tons of batteries from disposable vape rods you see on the street thrown not into a bin but onto the sidewalk. Worth the effort, just need a bms or an external lithium cell charger with protection.

Considering all the neat tech people build in their spare time and then put in github in formats that only geeks can understand, LTT could start hosting tech (guess-it-would-be) competitions for said neat things. I mean for a lot of the people sharing their neat toys just spreading the word could be rewarding enough but nothing stops you from giving out like 1k$ price or something. DIY tech things are interesting but I usually give up after Arduino compiling doesn't work easily as documentation or tutorial claims, or I can't figure out which tiny electronics parts I actually need to make a thing.. Or if I have to order parts from 5 different places online, each promising delivery times from week to 2 months. My bookmarks are stuffed with neat projects, and my shelves are stocked with random electronics for forgotten projects.
Ive had one of those Air Blowers for almost a year now and its saved me so much money and hassle compared to the cheap cans of compressed air i was buying from the dollar store for $4+/can. I've looked into them before and my biggest question is the battery - how is it holding up after a longer period? Any idea how easy it is to replace?

I'm most definitely going to make the volume sliders and maybe I might go for the USB valve aswell. Loving the video, ty!
In the lat Handy Tech Video Linus recommended the Pinecil. I bought it, and I have to say it's actually so useful. Thanks for that recommendation. I never soldered so much before haha.
am i the only person who noticed that they included the intro reel?

I would recommend looking at the TurnUp audio mixer! It’s got 5 knobs for custom app volume control, and 5 programmable buttons for any kind of control you want. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants fast control over audio!
This is the kind of video we all need. Hopefully there are more in this ""series"" as you called it.
i appreciate the disclosure. it nice to see a little background process.

Avoid purchasing LTT Screw drivers; they are overpriced and of poor quality. Instead, consider investing in a Klein Tools Precision Screwdriver, which comes with 27 bits for $20. I guarantee that their new screwdriver (Ripping off iFixit) alone will be $39.99, and with a complete kit (Ripping off iFixit), it may be priced at $59.99 or even higher. Steer clear of their subpar products.
I bought a rechareable duster a year or so ago when I built my last PC. Ive actually kept up on keeping it dust free because of it. Works well for keyboards too!
So the smart battery charger is neat but I accomplished the same thing with a $15 programmable timer that I have set to run for an hour or so every few days. It's scheduling is a lot more flexible as well.
for anybody wondering you can pretty trivially recreate the USBvalve thing but just connecting the usb power delivery lines on non USBPD cables and devices. Forgoing any data connections. If you do need the PD those are separate pins iirc, and you can use your own little breakout boards to configure the output level, and again deliver only over power lines.

Do I understand correctly, you can use a USB cable that only has the power pins connected? I went to the comments because I was wondering if the USB thing is 100% safe.

@@ourinator692for any usb A device not running USBPD yes this is something you can just do. If you're using USBPD you'll either need a way to communicate to the charger what you need power wise, or non compliant hardware. Though im sure you could still imitate the same behavior like i said, using a breakout board to communicate for your device, just to be absolutely sure.

The rechargable electric air duster is a must. A lot of them are multi-functional as well having the duster mode and can also be used as a mini vacuum cleaner. Def. worth the investment because the amount of uses and times used pays for itself.
YAY THIS SERIES IS BACK!!!!
Steel Series has a software volume mixer called Sonar that is way better than the deej (and its free), can do comms, game, media, aux and mic all seperate, with the ability to boost the volume and put an EQ on all those things independently. It even works with ASIO devices Like the Focusrite line of interfaces. Basically a newer version of Virtual Audio Cables and Equalizer APO + Peace in one piece of software.
Good job on adding the disclosure! I guess this is one of the good parts of the internal reflection
Great video Linus. These kind of videos when you are showing us how to make cool this are the best kind. Tinkering with Linus is surely fun

Hi LTT team. Electrical Engineer Mike here. "Leaving your batteries plugged in all the time" is rarely "really hard on the batteries". In the modern world of lithium based batteries with CC/CV charging in essentially all chargers batteries left on their chargers at 100% SOC causes zero degradation beyond being charged to 100% in the first place. While it is true that charging lithium type batteries to 100% does shorten their useful life than if you charged them to 80% that difference in life is marginal. Cycles of the battery are what matter most of course. And that said charging to 100% then allowing discharge because you didn't want to 'leave it connected to the charger' before plugging back in again WILL reduce the lifespan of the battery as that is a discharge cycle. It may not be a full discharge (I mean how often do you get your phone down to 0%) but it is a cycle nonetheless. You would have been much better off leaving that device connected to a charger to be kept at 100% rather than running it through one or even many partial discharge cycles.
I love my hardware volume knobs. But I got a pre-built solution a couple years ago called PC Panel (I got the mini) Basically does what these do, while having rgb, so I set each one to a color similar to the app it controls (purple for discord, red for chrome, green for current game, blue for master) and the rgb dims as the volume goes down
That volume mixer solution is way more work than it's worth, even if it's not that much work. I'm not going to constantly be adjusting these individual volumes that often, and the few times I do it's just way easier to open the volume mixer with a quick click of my mouse.

"way more work" Well, there's your problem. If you see building something like that as "work" then of course it's not worth it. For a lot of people it's a fun project. They have fun while building it. And building something that also has a practical use is just so much more satisfying.

Pretty sure I have the exact same blower, and it's come in useful with cleaning dust out of my computer and whatnot, I even used it when I was cleaning out a Dyson fan. The only issue that I would have with it is that it doesn't have a super focused tip so it won't be as hard as a can of air, so you may still need one around for more stubborn dust and dirt, but it does a good job on other more general purpose uses. Overall I recommend it, it'll significantly reduce the amount of cans you need to buy, leading to less waste as well.

Quick tip, rp2040 based microcontroller usually only have 3 analog pins, so you'll need an analog digital converter (which can be had for a few bucks and clipped in if you pick the right one)
Just my opinion, but I like the way that at the end you give a disclosure time. Not only because I've always kind of been curious how you guys come across all of these, and also it's nice to know where and biases could be.
Right out of the gate the charge o matic looks like a pretty good thing, because I have a 58 volt 4 amp hour chainsaw battery, that only going to be using a couple times a year, but I also want to keep it from being completely depleted but also not stay fully charged all the time. It doesn't have any kind of self protections to keep it at 80%. I also enjoy the format of the classic content like this including the good old intro.
DEEJ is a great approach (stumbled over it 3 years ago), and some other solutions go the same direction, like bigger versions of the stream deck, Mackie/HUI-protocol-compatible audio equipment, powermixer. But most lack consistent driver/desktop support and motorfaders = feedback to the sliders if the volume is changed via mouse/keyboard.
