Everyone Loves This Camera - I Can See Why

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is quite possibly one of the most loved Fujifilm cameras of all time. I’m talking about the Fujifilm X-T1, and almost 10 years after it’s initial release, countless photographers are still using this as their go to street photography camera. So I decided to buy one for myself to find out what all the hype is about...

To me Fuji was always meant to be simple and fun. The X-T1 has a slight vibrancy to it's color processing, and it's pretty small and doesn't intrude much. It takes pretty great photos, and if you aren't doing intense photo work. Then it's a perfect little camera, that for me really captures the fun nature of Fujifilm. I found that later, high end Fuji cameras lose the fun/ simple nature of Fujifilm, even though they are technically better. But they can have a lot of features that I personally consider unnecessary, and just end up feeling bulky and hobbled with too many functions. But anything past the x trans 3 sensor, becomes super color accurate. And AF is overall finicky sometimes, depending on the Fuji camera/lens. But Fuji is a really comfortable brand, and the x-t1 is a really fun camera. Now I just use a X-T3 with the 30mm macro. While tweaking the settings a little to get a slight vibrancy in photos. But an ideal setup would be the 18-55mm with the 55-200mm + X-t1 or X-t2. The used market is pretty good, and since they are labeled as "kit lenses" they aren't valued super high, despite being very good.

This was my first camera, perfect for understanding the ins and outs of photography. I still use it as my daily and even after upgrading to an a7III, I find myself grabbing this camera for when I’m on the go. XT-1 paired with the right lens can give amazing photos.

Great video! I had an X-T1 that I loved, but I parted with it due to mechanical faults. Unfortunately that was right when prices started skyrocketing. I've been thinking of getting another, but I prefer my cameras well loved. Any chance you might share the template for the leather?

I bought my XT1 when it first came out, as an upgrade to my XE1. Just a year ago, I finally upgraded to the XT4 specifically for better video, bigger battery, and IBIS (for my large collection of prime lenses without OIS). After all those years, the XT4 is still basically the same fantastic camera as the XT1 with just a bunch of evolutionary improvements. I love these cameras. Seeing your video, I may dust off my XT1 and pop on a manual lens and take it out for some fun. BTW, I did have my XT1 professionally reskinned by Fujifilm of North America - perfect!!! ❤

The XT1 is a great little camera. Paired with the 27mm pancake lens, it's perfect for street photography. I did update mine to the XT2 which in my opinion is even better (and not that much more expensive on the second-hand market) and that's the one I still use today for street photography. By the way, the 27mm f2.8 lens is really sharp (especially when used at f5.8 for street work) and is my favourite Fuji lens (and I've had some great, much more expensive Fuji lenses)

With that new leather, what jumped into my head was a memory of the camera I started out using when learning about photography. My mother allowed me to borrow her 1950's Halina, in a brown leather case. As with this, the top surface held a set of dials (although not quite so many). Your choice of lens also harkened back to the fully manual lens, with its little levers for setting the aperture and focus . . . Now I want an XT-1, dammit . . .

Have 2 X-t1's and 1 X-t2. Really love everything about the one, except the autofocus which can miss even in direct sunlight with single point- and the 2 ain't much better. They particularly miss focus when you repeat the shot at the same distance- it's as if when it gets focus right and is then asked to shoot again, it freaks out and doesn't know what to do- "I got it right the first time, I can't take this anymore!" I'd say it misses focus about 10% of the time- which can bite ya! But if you manual... Reasons I initially bought it were: size, features and the superb 14mm- even with 16 megapixels it can still take some absolutely cracklin' photos!

My xt1 was immaculate condition when I bought it. But I have loved it too much so I’m also having the peeling leather casings. My approach was much more diy - I just used black duct tape. It gives it a punk rock n roll vibe that I quite like. I do not think I will ever sell it, even if I buy a newer xt model. Only thing I wish it could do is flip up back screen in portrait mode, like the xt2 onwards.

The X-T1 is my 2rd great love for a camera body. I started with an X-T30, bought an X-T4 and traded everything for an X-T5 when it came out. I also had a budget to get a second hand X-T1 IR converted camera... And while mine is an IR converted model, I would still love this camera. It's just got that 'je ne sais quoi', that soul. The X-T5 is a true successor of the X-T1 and X-T3. It really gives the same experience but with all the bells and whistles you'd want with a modern camera. But the nitty gritty of it, the X-T3 offers the same flexibility that the X-T1 does. And it's reasonably priced still. So if you're looking into fuji x mount cameras, the X-T1, 2 and 3 are all very good options. There is nothing wrong with the X-T4, but I feel like the hybrid camera slider swung way too much into the video with that body.

The xt1 was one of the first fuji film cameras I looked into cause I wanted to get into their eco system. When I finally had the money to buy one the prices went up and now all I can find is $400+ for one Ended up getting a canon eos M2 instead that I found for $180 from KEH and just made 3 picture profiles trying to imitate some film simulations. Still sad I couldn’t get a hold of a xt1 but I made do with the m2 for now.

Oh, I love my XT1! I bought mine after I sold my XT3. I was surprised how good the overall quality of the camera, I liked the screen and view finder better comparing it to the Fuji XT20. It made photography for me extra fun, I find myself using all the buttons and dials of the camera, most of the time, I use manual lens with it. It's a photo first camera but from time to time I challenge myself, I take videos with it too. It's important to set expectations when you purchase an almost 10yr old camera. Overall, I'm happy with it. Mine is still in good condition, during the peak of pandemic I bought it for $300 USD, here in the Philippines currently the pricing is in between $400-$500 USD it can cost more if its in mint condition, based on the facebook marketplace. I wish I started photography with the XT1, learning the basics is much easier with it because of the physical dials, well that's just me. My most used film simulation are provia, colorchrome and monochrome. I use the XT1 for its strengths, it is important to know your tool. Wifi transfer within camera is also useful. You got yourself a new subscriber. 🎉

I bought an X20 as a 'fun' point and shoot in 2013. At the time I was still using Nikons for work (Real Estate/Architecture). Shortly after that, I got an X-A1 with XC16-50 kit and an XF27/2.8. So much smaller than my Nikons and the flip LCD allowed me to not have to crouch down any more. I COULD shoot flip LCD with the Nikons with 'mirror up' mode, but the mirror was held up electronically and it chewed through batteries VERY quickly that way.) The X-A1 was OK, but the CCD (rather than the X-Trans) wasn't ideal and I DO like having an eye level finder too. I kept my Nikons for Events and Portraits. As soon as the X-T1 hit the streets I took a look and was floored. I bought the first one delivered to my State the first day they hit the streets. The VF was GINORMOUS and it just fit my hand perfectly. I got that X-T1 and went 'all in' with Fuji and sold off all of my Nikon cameras and lenses. Lack of a joystick didn't bother me...the 17 years of my photography career was made with manual focus cameras only and I now have 38 years of muscle memory focusing in the center and recomposing my shot and making the exposure. With a Half Press of the shutter button...I still can't get the hang of rear button Autofocus. I'm WAY faster with this using AF-S center focos than using AF-C or AF-A or pushing the active AF point around the screen with my thumb. I've had 18 other X Bodies since that first X-T1 purchase (I got a second one in Titanium the day the X-T1 was discontinued...sold it a few years ago) and I use an X-T3 for work these days (and three X-E4 bodies for fun most of the time) but I still have that original X-T1 (with the vertical grip) and still love it. (Still have my X20 too.) MY X-T1 is covered over in leopard spotted duct tape rather than nicely cut red leather. Fuji was grand and sent me a replacement set of rubber body covering the first time it fell off and that second skin lasted just about another year. The Ti model was starting to get bad when I sold it. After that second covering fell off, I got creative and the duct tape has actually held up VERY well in the years since (though it's not in my hand 8hrs a day/5 days a week any more either.) It's always a conversation piece when I DO take it out to play though. :) Excellent video.

I sold mine and bought an X-T2 some time ago and I'm still not sure if that was the right decision. Sure, feature-wise the X-T2 is an upgrade and the image quality might objectively be better, but I feel like the X-T1 had an even better and more believable analog vibe - the noise at higher ISO always looked like pleasant film-grain, which is kind of still the case with the X-T2 but the higher resolution makes for a finer grain and I think I preferred the more gritty style. Maybe I'm just tripping tho.

I currently have 3x xt2's. I'm not upgrading them until they die. I've had several xt1's over the years also and agree there's something nice about them, but to me the xtrans3 trumps the xtrans1/2. Given fuji's ongoing price increases and the outrageous second hand market here in Aus, It's going to be a painful day when I upgrade

If you do purchase this camera make sure you update the firmware. My only criticism of this video is that the need to update the firmware wasn't mentioned. When the X T1 first came out, well it kind of sucked. Watch Tony and Chelsea Northrup's review of the X T2. At the intro they first show their early review when the X T1 first came out, they weren't impressed. But they did a quick review in the X T2 video to show what had changed at and after the 4.0 firmware was released for the "one" version. Today the firmware edition is substantially higher than 4.0 but the 4.0 release is really necessary to turn the X T1 into a decent camera.

The only problem is unless you find an absolute beater that some crackhead is selling, an X-T1 sells for at least $400. MPB or fleabay, that’s the going rate. That and is anyone else getting tired of “the $150 street camera” theme? It’s like, yeah eBay, old cameras and streets exist. 😂

My biggest problem is the plethora of young photographers inventing themselves as KZread street photography 'experts'. There are two names in particular, both British, who have big subscriber numbers but produce absolute garbage results and it's worrying that people blindly follow their 'advice'. A colleague of mine told me of one of them who he claimed he was 'London's leading street photographer'. When I then mentioned some respected London street photographer names to him, he hadn't heard of any of them, probably because they don't have KZread or Tiktok channels. That bothers me. However, if young people are getting into photography, that's a good thing and should not be discouraged. If young people are discovering older cameras for cheap, that's excellent. If they want to make a KZread video about it, what's the problem? And if other photographers discover these cameras because of it, then job done. I enjoyed this video, found it informative, the photos showcased were great, and I love this guy's enthusiasm. He's not telling us we should buy it and he's not telling us how the camera will improve our photography. He's just a camera nerd, and I love camera nerds on KZread! Writing shitty comments on his channel is for ar$eh0les. Oh, and the XT1 IS available on mpb for less than £200. I just checked.

I had this camera for a year while waiting for the X-T5 to tide me over, when I got the X-T5, months later I asked myself "why did I sell that camera again?" Not that I like it more than the X-T5 or anything, it's just that there are some types of shots the X-T1 is just better at, in fact if I buy another I'll make it basically dedicated to black & white photography. The X100T is another option for that kind of use.

Still, I never really considered Fuji cameras till now. Those manual dials are *exactly* what I’ve been wanting as I learned (B&W) photography on an original Canon F-1 and wanted to get back to focusing on the basics with a 50mm equivalent prime. Found a used X-T2 with a shutter count of 69 for $550 and gonna go with that.

I own a X-T1, before videos like this started the hype again. I got it for quite cheap few years back. And it is absolutely brilliant. Build quality is good, I love the big viewfinder. I guess resolution got much better, but it is big and you actually can evaluate what you are shooting. It was back then the first time I have seen an electronic viewfinder and understood the benefits in comparison to an DSLR optical viewfinder. Only few years back, the viewfinder in Sony APS-C cameras was just bad and not fun to use. Also had an X-T10 testwise, and its viewfinder was really bad and small in comparison, despite being relatively similar in general. I also love the size if zhe X-T1, the later generations are significantly bigger. Of course, this camera is best for stills only. The AF ist slow, face recognition isn't great. But it can deliver such beautiful images. I also have an X-E3 with an X-Tran III sensor, and I have used an X-T4 of a friend with an X-T IV sensor. And even though AF greatly improved, as well as low light capabilities, somehow the old X-T1 generates the most beautiful pictures out of cam. They have a kind of texture and a "warmth" in it. And it looks and works so harmonically with the old 35mm 1.4 and the 56mm 1.2. However, there are several old gems out there that are similarly good for the purpose. Several old mFT bodies are pretty cheap and good for example (including some lenses). Modern cameras have their advantages, but most cameras build from 2010 on are great, even older cameras can produce great images. Just saw an old Canon 1Ds mkii for 150€. A tank, 16MP Fullframe. Wisley used still a workhorse that can create stunning results. But far from compact or lightweight.

Nice job on the reskin! Unfortunately, in time, oils from your fingers will attack the self stick adhesive, causing it to fail just as the original did. Here is the remedy: Superglue. I like the gel type myself. Use isopropyl alcohol to remove old adhesive and oils (contaminants) from fingers, that is on the camera. This leaves a clean surface which is a requirement. Be very careful to keep the Superglue from touching any part of the to be camera not to be covered with reskin. It will stain the surface. Original tactile rubber cover can be reinstalled if in good condition. Must be clean as well as the camera.

Bought this 6 years ago coming from Canon. Canon is great albeit plastic. I wanted something that mimicked the film look and mechanical tactility. Fuji provided. Shooting Fuji is like hopping back into a manual car. Finicky, but once you master it, you master every platform because of the difficulty curve. I've done tons of professional work with stills and it excels for my style. In the moment, how I see it, film like, smooth and creamy stills and video. It doesn't excel at uber sharp imaging, which this isn't meant for.
