I lost my mom 13 years next month. I can say through the years, my outlook on life changed and I hope she can see me now and know that I’ve been doing the best I can to be a better human being. Your pops taught you enough to be able to tell your viewers that they’re loved. Fishing I feel like is an underrated therapy.

A few years ago , I started experiencing some serious issues with PTSD and visions of what I saw while deployed, the strain of life , marriage and the painful memories of losing friends in combat really put me in a bad place mentally, So I fell back into a childhood passion of mine ( Fishing) something I grew up doing with my brothers, And I realized that with the right gear, mindset , a good jig and " GOD" as your guide life will get better, Bless You and your dad's memories, he's still with you in heaven !!!

My brother A Rudd yep that's what I'll call you when you, me and John Dalton finally meet one day, the witness is genuine. Losing both of my parents by age 40 was rough and dark. I'm glad you decided to keep Dad's boat and took it to a lake where you made memories. I may have stopped writing fishing and outdoor articles after Dad passed in 2010 but I didn't stop fishing or putting into practice lessons I was taught. A chapter had closed and another season began. The analogy of that tree rang true and God doesn't waste opportunities. Love you dude, keep being you. Your brother in Christ.

My brother got me into fishing again at the beginning of this year. I hadn’t fished since we were kids. (32 now) He unfortunately passed away in May. I’ve pretty much dedicated all my time to fishing now. I went from hardly knowing how to tie a knot to catching a 7lber this summer. Although I wish he was still here I know he’s always out there with me when I’m on the water. Thanks for all you do Alex. God bless

Main difference is profile and rate of fall. The jig is going to have a different profile because of the skirt and slower rate of fall because the skirt and trailer create a lot more drag.

Finally somebody else who shows up to the lake to catch the bite and spends the first hour rigging up all his rods! 😂

are you throwing the SX rkt? I have been looking at this reel since using my friend's original revs rocket for a jig last weekend. It was pretty cool, but I am trying to figure out if it is worth it over my other usual 8xx ratios

Do you think it is worth it over a traditional 8 gear ratio reel for jigs?@@AlexRuddFishing

Not particularly. I think you would be satisfied with either one.

Just joined your channel from very hot south Africa. Would you fish jigs from the bank as well? I fish with braided line most of the time.

First off awesome to see some South African viewers on the channel 👊🏻 second yes jig will work in super hot temps, third (legit question) are you not terrified of crocodiles fishing from the bank?

Not at all. Most of the dams where we fish in my home province are quite safe from crocs. I am a teacher at a high school and fish mainly on private farm dams owned by farmers. There are no crocs on their farms that we know of. Thanks for the advice and videos i really enjoy. Tight lines.

What i would like to see is a deep dive into that hand full of universal rigs and lures that you would reach for any time, any where.... It would be nice not to be distracted by all of the shiny new thingies Some of us are just OLD SCHOOL... Take Us Back To School....

There are no perfect christians. Just hang on to the faith and hear God speaking to you even when you don't wanna listen. I've had to remind myself daily recently to step back and listen and watch him work. Like the Skeeters. Hoping I get to purchase one for myself and family next year.

I must be the only one to not be able to pitch a lure w/o backlash. That’s the #1 reason for me . I can cast a Mike but pitching I might get 10’ if I’m lucky with no backlash

Nothing makes these better than a little sprinkle of faith thrown in there - I think that's the most powerful thing we can share - thanks Alex. I loved watching you and your pops, and I still love hearing the memories - keep sharing as you feel the need. I imagine it helps you and a lot of us as well. Crush on brother!
