not really the reason why its so close is because of him keeping his wrists up which emphasises wrist abduction. Thats why you see his thumb is so close to his forearm.

Ideally if his wrist were into flexion the bar would be and inch or two higher also his fingers are also smashed together which make again reduces the distance overhead.

Shi Zhiyong is still the favorite in the 73kg category. Abdullah needs to improve his snatch to be a threat against him in this category. I don't see a world in which China doesn't get Shi to the Olympics. The battle for the third spot would be between Li Dayin and Liu Huanhua. In that case, I still think it's more likely that Li Dayin will be chosen.

Everyone keeps hyping Rahmat which makes sense, but he gives up so much ground in the snatch to Shi. So he'd likely pull a Rahimat on shi to take the dub

Rahmat did 158 in the snatch in the sea games this year and it was easy. He just didn't try at worlds for some reason. I think something like 160 205 would definitely beat shi

Yes. In that last championship he scored 145 in the snatch. Shi scored 166 in Tokyo and recently 160 in a training session. The only reason he wouldn't be chosen is if he had a health problem, but I think he's recovered. We'll see if he takes part in the Asian Games in the coming weeks.

Following the logic of taking each person's best mark, Shi has already scored 169 and 198. That would beat Rahmat. The difference is that in your example it's an assumption, since he's never done 160 or 205 in the 73kg category.

@@andrade5937 it is an assumption yes, but you have to keep in mind Rahmat keeps getting better every year, and he's still young. Shi is pretty old now, and injured - I don't think it's likely he'll return to the shape he was once in

At 3:53 I believe Seb wanted to say 215 or 220 instead of 115 or 120.

This Olympic cycle fucking sucks. The weight classes are fucking stupid and make no sense. The rules on qualifying are stupid. 102 kg class is a joke. Most of the European countries that produce lifters big enough for that class don’t have the drug technology to feel safe enough to dodge drug tests. It’s really down bad from from being so low before going to super heavy. Since China is getting their asses kicked in 89 class by Karlos Nasar when they have x3 89s, so they send Liu Huanhua to 102 kg because of chinas “designer drug” advantage. It’s cool seeing giga chad there, it’s just a testament to how boring this is making the mid upper weight classes not counting super heavyweight. Heavyweight should never be anything below 240 lbs again. 105 kg was too small before they changed it. I want Tian Tao to go and do big things just as bad as anyone else.

It’s arguably the most competitive category tho, and China cares about gold medals. Since they they can only send 3 men and 3 women regardless of category they’re gonna try to pick from categories that will guarantee gold medals

He took one lift in the snatch and it was under what he would open with normally. I think if he went for it he’d be around the 160/205 range as an -73 which is pretty deadly.

@WeightliftingHouse but your assuming that is what he is gonna do, I don't think he is, shi is beating this kid by 15-20 kgs. he will probably bomb out the next time they face just like the other Indonesia kid shi was purpose to lose to

After watching the 71s I got to thinking that Kate might actually drop out. It's not that I don't think she's not capable of taking back her spot, the question is why should she. She has already gotten to the Olympics and gotten silver. I don't think there's any chance she will place better than silver anyways given the Chinese lifter that's in the 71s. If that's the case it's going to be a repeat of the "2020" Olympics. Reeves has More fire in her belly and the desire to make her first Olympic team and Olympic medal. It's important to have motivation to keep pushing but, I just have a hard time seeing what her motivation is to keep going at this point. I hope she makes the decision that is best for her.
