@@crithitjaceI don't remember how, but as a kid I had a VHS of several of those shorts. My memory's fuzzy, but I remember it having the short with the robots, the one where a magnet telescope pulled a star or something towards Earth, the one with the mad scientist, Superman pulling the train or whatever, one that took place in a circus, one that I think had to do with Egypt, one that involved a Volcano (did I have 2 VHS tapes? I'm remembering a surprising amount of shorts here, I don't think they all would have fit on 1 vhs lol ) and one that involved the Japanese. While my memory is fuzzy, I remember the shorts on that/those VHS' looking just as good as the clips shown here. I know youtube has remastered versions, but the animation really did look fantastic. I dunno if the VHS also contained remastered versions of these shorts, but I kinda doubt it.

As a Superman Aficionado, I love the original Christopher Reeve 1978 film the best, however, I rank Man of Steel #2 because I understand it’s supposed to be as if Superman arrived in our cynical modern world and how society reflects him. His father became obsessed with hiding his secret and it’s out of love. Superman could have been cynical himself due to the nature of this world, but he does the right thing. I also love how it’s more like an old school 1950s Sci-Fi Alien invasion, but Superman saves the world in conjunction with the military rather than just humanity saving the world.

I think I always took Superman for granted growing up and preferred Batman but watching those 1940s cartoons from Fleischer Studios on KZread a few years ago really helped me to appreciate the character much more (along with the much newer My Adventures with Superman cartoon)! They're very simple to watch and none of Superman's arch-nemeses are in it since most of them didn't exist yet (Lex Luthor would've been brand new then but maybe they didn't have time to add him in), but the animation is gorgeous and I love how badass Superman is portrayed. The main theme is also incredible, just as strong as the one from John Williams imo. There's a few episodes that wouldn't fly today (no pun intended), but they're interesting time capsules regardless and don't take away from how awesome these cartoons are as a whole.

Not surprised with #1. It's so good! I gotta say though, I like Justice League.. yeah, the Joss Whedon cut. It's far from perfect, but the one thing it does better than any of Snyder's movies is Superman. Snyder just doesn't know how to write him. If you want a dark Superman story, cool! Give us the bright and chipper Supes first, so there can be contrast and we can feel/fear his fall from grace. Superman vs The Elite highlights his pretty well.

The 40s were better than the 60s. In the 60s and 70s, the Filmation/Hanna Barbara style was the rule of the land: simple designs and six frames per second. How cheap can we do this? In the 40s however, everyone wanted to outdo Disney so we got twenty-four frames per second and the best talent available. The studio that did the Superman shorts, Flescher Studio, was known for using rotoscoping. This means filming live action footage and tracing over it so the motions look more realistic.
