IT was the first Stephen King book I ever read and pulled me back into being a heavy reader after not picking up a book (for entertainment) in a while. The character work is out of this world and right after I finished I immediately started to binge his other works. Hands down my favorite King novel.

@@otherworldsthanthese they are saying around that maybe you are that "Adam Medvidović" that wrote that "Night in Zagreb" that is raising a lot of dust - its like novel that is actually revealing whats gonna happen. It is known that "Adam Medvidović" is a pen name, but actuall writer is unknown. Wanted to ask you is it true? You are a genius for writing that and a man with the balls. If it is you.

I am so impressed that you read all SK novels. The book Rage was written at a very different time. There were no school shootings that I know of in the 70’s and it was a powerful book for it’s time. Sadly, we are in a different world. My favorites are Per Semetary, Salem’s Lot and the Shining and the Long Walk…. My least favorite was Cell. I just finished Later and really enjoyed it.

What a fabulous job you've done! As you said in your introduction, 100 King fans would undoubtedly come up with 100 different lists. But yours is well thought out. Having said that, of course my list is different. I think my top ten (no particular order) would include The Stand, Salem's Lot, Bag of Bones, It, The Shining, Pet Sematary, Needful Things, Desperation, Firestarter, and 11/22/63.

Also Outsider, Looking forward to get to ‘If it bleeds’. You reminded me about Misery. It is such a good story, couldn’t put it down. I could feel it with every inch of my body. Great video. I would say my 2 favorite are Needful Things and The Talisman. I reread those quite a bit. My underrated one is The Dark Half and my overrated one is 11/22/63. I've only read it once but I found it predictable, didn't care for the characters, and patronizing. Your The Stand is my 11/22/63. I really liked your list and video. Keep up the good work! I've only got 4 King novels left.

14:50 - Long Walk is indeed the first novel that Stephen King ever finished writing, which was in 1967 when he was a freshman in college. He actually started Rage earlier than that when he was a senior in high school but didn't finish writing it until 1971 when he found the partial manuscript it in a box in the cellar of his parents house.

I'm new to your channel and posted on your Firestarter video before posting a comment here (even though I watched this first). First of all, I wrote a paper for my bachelor's degree about the Firestarter novel. I agree that this book is full of themes and reference that could rival Shakespeare or Dickens. Such a well written cast of characters, plot, and pacing. My favorite line of yours though is when you said The Regulators was as all over the place as your sexuality. I had to go back several times to hear it again - Brilliant!

@@otherworldsthanthese I think it took me by surprise when I read it. It was the first time I'd read one of his books where I could see the larger themes and issues that he was making a comment about: poverty & social class being the main one, and then the idea of the poor selling themselves for entertainment (reality TV) in order to survive and support their families. It's so close to what we see people do nowadays on reality shows and social media. I think I was still quite new to King when I read it so I hadn't expected that kind of social commentary from his work (especially a Bachman book). I know it's not everyone's favourite though 😊

Hey there! I subscribe to you and love your reviews. Also you are adorable and very insightful. I really appreciate your thoughts and reviews though I don't always agree with all. LOL I am 62, a young 62, so I was in my teens when King started with Carrie. I read a lot back then but stopped for some reason. Now I am buying all Stephen King books again. First I read Salem's Lot, one of my all time favorites. After all these years I still remembered the scenes that creeped me out the most. Then I read Billy Summers and agree it was a WOW book showing how great he still is. Then I read Mr. Mercedes and found it a bit slow at first but then the last 2/3 were amazing. I am trying to read all the books with Holly in them before reading Holly. I have 15 more I have bought. Some I will be rereading and there are newer ones I have not read yet like The Institute. I got Christine and Needful Things. Loved them back in the day and can't wait to reread them. The only thing I really disagree on is Dreamcatcher. That is one of my fave King books. Sorry for the length but would you like me to share my thoughts as I read each book and we can compare our thoughts. I already have 5 more in my Amazon cart including Pet Cemetery and The Dark Half and your fave Dreamcatcher LOL I look forward to reading more Later King like Duma Key, Bag of Bones and Lisey's Story. Hope all is well and hope to hear from you. Barry

Enjoyed your video very much and it gave me some good ideas for my next reads! However, with all due respect, I am trying to finish Insomnia at the moment, and it’s difficult because it is dreadful. Lol. Painfully slow. And there is a 200-300 page section in the middle with nothing but exposition and instructions for moving forward (“above” the hospital with Ralph, Lois and the two little men). It was like time stood still for 300 pages. 🤯Crazy. Hopefully it will finish strong. Again, loved your video. New follower here.

I've only Carrie, 'Salem's Lot and The Shining so far, and I'm currently on IT. I'd say my favourite is The Shining. The world-building of the Overlook is great, the horror elements are extremely discomforting, and the character work is unforgettable. I'd even go so far as to say it's the best book I've ever read, besides 1984. That's gonna be a controversial opinion😬 Seriously tho, why don't people talk about that book enough? Oh lord, Tommyknockers, everyone gets one mulligan bad opinion 😂 Finders Keepers is definitely the best Bill Hodges book. You were a lot more lenient with The Stand than I was haha, I put it much lower. Love to see The Dead Zone in your top 20! WHOAAA Dark Tower 7 so low?!?! Your tastes did change! Excellent video! Well argued and great fun. Agree on a lot of things (The order of the Bill Hodges books for an example, also the high rating for The Dark Half and the love for The Long Walk), wildly disagree on others (Firestarter as the masterpiece!?) My favourite three (just can't pick one): It The Stand 11.22.63 My least favourite (that I remember well): The Regulators Gerald's Game Dreamcatcher

Great video Harry! I'm so glad you put the Dark Half so high! Its' in my top 3 books! It is so under rated. I was genuinely spooked when I read it. Also, I'm glad when I saw you put Dreamcatcher as your least favourite book as it's not just me then! I tried to read it twice and both times only got halfway through it. I will get around to it eventually! But I have way too many of his bibliography to read first. Firestarter is next on my list. Keep up the good work Harry. :)

I've got to say "The Long Walk" totally broke me emotionally. Most of my high school friends are now dead [= who I did gay stuff with at the time, just cuz that was the 90s :)], and I feel just like Gordy in "The Body" and when the narrator's only friend in "The Long Walk" [=it's heavily implied Garraty the narrator is homosexually in love with this boy McVries], when that boy McVries gives up on the contest [=a metaphor life in general] and says "It's time to sit down, Garraty!" and the protagonist shouts "NOOOOOOO!" as his possible boyfriend McVries is shot in the head is so freakin' heartbreaking. I didn't know Stephen King could make me cry more bitterly than I shivered in fear from his writing. The Long Walk deserves respect as ART. I feel like when I become aware I'm about to die I'm going to remember that terrible page: "Time to sit down, Garraty!"

Oof, Dreamcatcher was the first King book I ever read so it holds a special place in my heart for that reason, even though objectively it's not the best. But it made me fall in love with his writing style and his characters. My favorite King book is either Misery or The Dead Zone - can never really decide between those two - and my least favorite is The Gunslinger.

I will say one of the marks of a great book which is longer is you don't realize how long it is. The first time I read The Stand was the abridged version which was still 800+ pages long. The second time was the unabridged version and I was probably even more captivated by it. It probably helped the first time reading The Stand I was in the 8th grade and the second time was just a few years ago). But The Stand is my favorite of King's (and in general, one of my favorite fiction books). You did get me to change my mind on IT though, I can't in good conscious have it quite as high as I did because of THAT scene (come on King, really?).

I read Misery and was AMAZED. I am obsessed. I watched The Shining and Silver Bullet to get quick fixes, but I am reading The Shining right now. I plan on reading Doctor Sleep next because of the connection between the two. What order would you suggest I read the novels? These three being in Colorado makes me wonder if I should tackle them by region. However, I am really excited for Gerald’s Game and Dolores Claiborne. For the connection between the two, which should I start with?

Great video, great presentation, good insights and entertaining. For me however it's 1 The Green Mile. 2 The Shining. 3 Christine. 4 Salem's Lot and 5 Pet Cemetery. I read the Green Mile in three or four mammoth sittings about ten years ago, literally didn't want to put it down. The film was great too. Well done keep up the good work!

I love all the standard classics….Shining, It, Pet Semetary, Stand, Salem’s…plus the newer 11/22/63, Institute, Outsider. But it’s the hidden gems that I really appreciate…Desperation, Needful Things, Tommyknockers…. I’m still only about 2/3 of the way through his body of work. Have you read them all? Haven’t really read a clunker yet

@@otherworldsthanthese I personally think that the boy named Crow was Kafka's alter ego. There was a part in the book that says that he named himself Kafka because it translates to "crow" in another language (I can't really remember coz my memory is jumbled while reading this book 😭). Crows are associated with intelligence, braveness, and higher perspective (we can relate this to the part where the Crow repeatledly said to Kafka that he should be strong and the part where Kafka searches for the boy named Crow to answer a question). Aside from that, crows are also a totem of death which we can interpret that Kafka's past self had died when he decided to run away from home and take this new identity. I'm sorry I'm terrible at explaining things but I hope you get my point. 😂 I'd love to know your thoughts about the boy named Crow too because I think it was an interesting character to study and analyse.

I recently finished Dreamcatcher and loved almost every bit of it, but I guess I can see where you're coming from. I still think it's really underrated, but the movie adaptation, good god... my thoughts on the movie are basically your thoughts on the book. It's so unbelievably terrible that I can't even describe it.
