EVERY SHOT Lee Trevino wins 1990 US Senior Open | Round One Highlights

Спорт

This is round one of the 1990 US Senior Open Highlights of a round of 67.
The Senior US Open was played at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus New Jersey. Mr. Trevino shot rounds 67-68-73-67=275 for 13 under par. He would eventually win over long time rival Jack Nicklaus by two strokes.
Lee Trevino Fans is a fan-page dedicated to the legend of the game that inspired me to retool my game around one of the top-three ballstrikers of all time, right behind Ben Hogan and Moe Norman. Jack Nicklaus played with all 3 and in his opinion he was the best ball striker he had the pleasure of playing with. Butch Harmon noted swing coach with former students like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have gone on record as saying Mr. Trevino was the best ball striker he has ever seen. According to Dave Pelz (short game guru) Mr. Trevino has the record to the all time closest to proximity to the hole from 125 yards and in.

BioMechanics: Rear Post: But looks center post due to open stance. Left Hand: Strong, Shut Club at the top., Fast Hips Right Hand: Under, also strong, Vertical Takeaway, Right elbow tucked on the DownSwing. Fast Hips: Means the reroute will match the hip or club plane not the right arm or the shoulder plane on the downswing. Shallowing: The club via hip slide. All done with a soft right arm and strong left arm across the chest like Mr. Hogan. Hence he was Ben's club tester!

Not a swing the average guy should try. Takes a ton of talent and practice. But he had and did both.

@@nicholasschroeder3678 I think the average guy could learn how to hit with his pivot as opposed to thinking he generates speed/accuracy with hands and arms.

@@ScratchArkkitehti That part, yes. It's the shut clubface and blocking action that's unnatural. I think that takes strong arms and hands, and just goes against your natural tendency to release. Palmer also did it: that's why he'd occasionally hit vicious hooks. Trevino made it reliable, and it made him uncannily accurate--because he chased the clubface out and along the line forever. But you know he practiced a ton, and maybe just had exceptional hand/eye. But I wouldn't recommend that technique to anyone. He was unique.

@@ScratchArkkitehti Easier wouldn't be the right word, exactly. More natural I'd say. I think most of these super greats aren't wise to copy too closely. They tailored their swings to their bodies and strengths and put in tons and tons of practice. Take swing elements, yes, but don't copy it exactly. I do think players are probably better off trying to copy the old guys swings more than the young guys with their super shoulder turns and flat left heels. That requires an athleticism that few have. I copied Nicklaus as a kid and it worked well for me because I was athletic and had a body almost exactly like his. But I was a teenager, too--strong and flexible and lots of time to practice. I don't really like Hogan's swing. Kinda the opposite of Nicklaus with that really flat plane. But he had a different body. I did take away a lot of good ideas from his book, which I think every serious golfer should read. To me, Tom Watson had a great swing for lots to copy. Nice and stress free, with no eccentricities. But everyone has to work it out for themselves. Trevino was unique. I can't imagine anyone copying him to advantage. The movement isn't natural. It only worked for him because it suited his body and he worked on it like a dog. And like I said, he probably had incredible hand-eye. Most of them do.

That was a hell of a round from Lee! Geeze his shot making combined with a hot putter isn’t fair to the other guys. “I aim left, swing right, and walk straight.” My favorite Lee ism.
