This is the Cart Reader from the Save The Hero Project. This is capable of reading and backing up ROM and save files from your original retro cartridge based games. This works for the Nintendo Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 and the Sega Genesis. This is an open-source project that will get better with time and support more cartridge based consoles in the future!

How did it turn out?
This seems amazing
The GB vs. GBA problem is odd since it was already solved by Nintendo themselves: A switch that is directly attached at the cartridge slot. It'd be good to have the voltage auto-detected by the type of cartridge you put in as a security feature, so you don't accidentally fry your games. But other than that this is really, really awesome!
@MachoNachoProductions

It would be great if it was somehow automated.
@androxilogin
2 жыл бұрын
That is a cool idea, however, repros require less power. Ex. SNES games require 5v, and repros are at 3.3v. N64 requires 3.3v, however, prototype carts require 12v through the barrel plug on the Arduino Mega. The risk of frying your games is not very high. You'd have to leave the cart on there for a significant amount of time to cause any harm. Versatility is the reason.
@Kniffel101

this is awesome, back last year I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to make a device that extracts ROMs from multiple different kinds of cartridges, glad it came true
Fantastic and stylish thanks for sharing and of course caring! Stay blessed
I think the biggest pro of this thing is the aesthetic of it :) it looks awesome!
im going to look into this more
This is pretty dope
I already see a problem, and that's expecting the user to always select the correct voltage and settings, it's not trivial, but can be done to check which connector is populated and automatically set the correct settings. There should be no reason why the user should have to remember to manually set everything up beforehand, as I can see some very valuable carts being killed by user error.

See this is the type of device we need for the MISTer, to allow us to be able to play original carts. That would be awesome!! Simply allowing us to rip the ROMS off a cart is nice & all, but it's use is a bit limited when everyone has access to literally the entire game libraries for pretty much every system already. Kinda redundant. If you have some sort of rare prototype or something along those lines that u want to dump then yeah It'd be great for that. And it's very cool to see a device like this that can read carts for a multitude of systems. Pretty cool device!
Nice video and nice device! Whish I had one device like this one 30 years ago 🙂 BTW all my repro carts bought from China, upon insertion in sega megadrive console, they oppose mechanical resistance because the PCB edge does not have a V shape cut. Yestarday I played castlevania Bloodlines from a repo cartridge and I berly inserted and remove the cartridge from de console. I got angry and sanded both edges of the pcb cartridge at a relative 45’ angle in order to obtain the V shape cut. Now it inserts and remove more easely.
There were adapters in the Kickstarter. The dip switch settings are printed on the adapters.

Awesome concept, cool design, great ease of use... This could quite possibly be the most incredible piece of retro gaming tech that I will never need.
This is awesome but what I really want is a cartridge adapter to plug into my MiSTer and turn it into the ultimate FPGA console!
Heya! I saw on the Save the Hero store page that they are selling the international 50-pin Master System adapter for their cartridge reader. Do you think Save the Hero will plan on working on a Japanese 44-pin variant of the adapter supporting Japanese Master System/Mark III/SG-1000/SC-3000 cartridges and/or SEGA Card/My Card games via the Card Catcher? Also, will they plan on working on a Game Gear adapter?

What do you think about the polymega? It essentially dumps all of these too. It also dumps others… although the rooms are proprietary to that machine…
