My Ex used to come home and go out of his way to find a 'problem' with something that I may have done or failed to do while he was away at work. In response, I would fall all over myself to try to assuage his often-ill-conceived and unreasonable feelings. One day, it occurred to me, "Hey, wait a minute.... If the problem he has with me is beyond reasonable comprehension and out of my control, and if he's the ONLY one who seems to have that problem with me; then why am I beating myself all up, when I will inevitably fail to please him?" It was so LIBERATING to realize that whatever problem he happened to have with me at any given moment, was HIS problem and he could have it if he wanted to. I didn't have to let it ruin my day too.
