Great roundup! I’ve had experience with the 16 MBP, the 13 Air and the 14 MBP. All great machines. 14 MBP was my personal sweet spot.

As an engineering student i have been using mac book air m1 alot for coding, editing and other documentation , and it really does it well. The only issue is the lesser ports and fewer upgradable options that it has.

Yo nice vid!! I’m still thinking about the best choice for my purpose. Want to use it in my future job as a teacher so it should be light enough to take it with me everyday. But also I the MacBook Pro would come with a hdmi port so I wouldn’t have to use an adapter for presentations. (Wanna do some coding, presentations, office stuff,… with it) maybe you can tell me what you think - MacBook Air 13" or pro 14".

Yes if you’re presenting every day I’d 100000% go with the 14 MacBook Pro. Having to remember a dongle all the time is suuuch a headache

Loved the video Jon, it really helped me a lot choosing but I got a question please if you can help me with For me I usually go with huge files on photoshop with lots of layers and file sizes exceeding 10GB so do you think 36GB Unified Memory is enough or I should go higher? also one more thing I'm scared about is battery life as this is gonna be my first time switching from Windows to MacBook how long is it gonna take if I use photoshop and 4k videos with large sizes? You’ll have all day battery life still, they’re crazy efficient especially compared to windows laptops. I think you’d be totally fine with 32gig of ram. Which laptop do you think you’ll go with?

Ive heard pretty good things about the Lark system, I use the zoom f2's whenever I need Lav mics but for most of my work I just a Sennheiser MKE 600 running into a Zoom f6. I do a lot of client work so I have gear for my freelance business.

16 gigs of ram is totally good for that kind of workflow! So you’d be good with the pro, but that air also edits 4k video just fine so you are good with either of those laptops. I like the pro more just to have the extra ports and an internal fan.

I always have around twenty tabs open in my browser and several Excel files with lots of sheets (macros) open in the background, plus other applications (Lightroom, Mail, Sonos, VPN) and an external screen from time to time (I'm starting to get old and you can see Excel better on a 27" ;) I have a mid-2009 8GB/256GB MBP which is dying with its wifi 5 and the multi-colored wheel that appears as soon as I launch an app, I can't take it anymore ! Hence my question: for my use, which Mac with which memory do you recommend ? Many thanks !

Hey Alex, yes the m3 air would be great and just to give the laptop a longer life span I’d go with the 16gb of ram and at least a 512gb storage option if you have the budget for it.

Honestly you would be fine with either, but if you're going to be making money with your laptop you might want to invest in the pro. It's more money but if this is your main work device that should work itself out in the end.

My suggestion, go for 15'' macbook air M3 16GB ram and 512 ssd.

@@kimarodri I think you would still be fine going with the macbook air, for lighter video editing the air is fine and the reason i wanted the pro was to have the SD card reader so I don't need to remember a dongle. Hope you enjoy the journey of making videos and great ux design!

I don't own any one of these for now, but if I get one it is going to be a Air 15. The primary reason is that it is light enough to travel. I take my laptop to my office 5 days a week and I know for sure that the weight of the laptop will get pretty annoying after some point. But as a professional graphic designer I think sometimes the laptop might not cut it, so in that case I would get a Mac Studio for desk and travel with the Air 15. I personally think that this might give the best balance between a laptop that is light enough to travel every day and a powerful machine at home for all those demanding tasks that the Air will struggle with.

I love the Mac Studio so I’m sure if you went with that route you’d be happy. Have you ever tried the 14? It’s not much smaller than the 15 and you could spec it out instead of buying two computers, then just get a monitor at work and home and you’d be set for a long time and still could be cheaper than getting two machines.

Yeah, I thought of that initially but multiple reasons made me think to go for the Air 15 and Mac Studio combo even though it will get a little expensive. The primary reason is that I needed a bigger screen real estate, I did compare the Pro 14 and the Air 15 and I have got to say that the difference was a little evident in my opinion. I really feel like I want the AIr 15 especially when I travel to places where I wouldn't be able to hook this thing to a good external monitor that has a Type C connection. For instance, I am from India and most organizations (even some really big tech companies) don't provide good monitors that have a type c port for a one-cable hassle-free experience, so as a workaround, we have no choice other than using a dongle. The worst part is that in my country we don't have good dongle manufacturers like Anker, Aukey and CalDigit don't provide a manufacturer's warranty which is insane when you put in a good amount of money for the dongle. Considering all these downsides I narrowed it down to this combination to tackle both my lifestyle and my workload. After all, I always love the Air's lightweight design even though I know that it isn't as powerful enough as a Pro device to cut everything that you throw at it.

I’m window user. Would like to try switch to Mac experience. My usage task more to excel, web browse for business. Sometime, will open 3-5 BlueStacks for play mobile game or play streams game. Should I get MacBook Pro, Max or Air? What spec more suitable me?

Since you’re in a field that will make money directly tied to your ability to compute lots of things fast then I’d say you should go for the pro. 18gigs of ram is plenty fine

Hi! Great video! A went for a MacBook Air m3, 13 inches, 8Ram and 512. Awesome for ultralight mobility, a little bit of Lightroom, streaming and multitasking on the go. For more serious photo projects I have my MacBook Pro 14, M2 pro, 16ram and 1To. But less enjoyable on the go. I found both very nice for my type of use. I am not a great fan of iPad, so the air is my light companion :-)

Got the 14 pro, regret not going up to 16 for better multitasking. I don’t care much about weight either. Love the airs, but I can’t give up on the 120hz, performance and ports.

@@JonAdamsTech I can completely empathize with that, the 14 would be my default recommendation for anyone, you’re just not gonna have a great experience if the 16 is too big. It’s a Silver M1 with a dbrand skin, would go with space black if I bought a new one, but no regrets.

It’s not a ton different, the weight is really not noticeable unless you have the two side by side. That being said the 14 is heavier but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. The screen on the pro is also nicer for sure.

I don't think it's worth it for the speakers. What I would do is get the 15 MBA and give it a listen, then if it absolutely doesn't do it for you, you have two weeks to return it and then get the 16. The speakers in the 15 MBA are actually really impressive, so I think it's worth giving them a shot!

@jonah3359 I just picked up the M3 MBA 15 with 16Gb/512Gb over the weekend. I've used a lot of laptops over the years but I think this might be my favorite. So light, beautiful in starlight, battery lasts forever, screen is up to any of my tasks. Speakers don't match the pro, but they are more than adequate. I like that dual monitor support is an option if I need it, but I've got a Windows gaming/video editing desktop for heavy lifting.

For cyber security and cloud security I went with m3 air with 24gb - kali runs perfect

From one Adams to another. If you’re gonna be working on huge projects it’s helpful to go with the pro. I’d go with the m3 pro chip because I haven’t noticed a massive difference between that and the m3 max.

It should be totally fine. One thing I’d do is get the one you want and give it a solid testing then as long as you’re within two weeks you could return it and upgrade if it doesn’t work for your workflow.

I just bought a m3 midnight. don't kid yourself the coating definitely is not finger print proof. now sure how bad the m2 was but tommorow it will go back for a silver. I especially do not like that in dim rooms you cannot see the keyboard keys anymore just the lit up letters. with silver I at least have little frames around the keys and I like that. this is absolutely still a fingerprint magnet.

Haha you don’t notice it as much in normal light, this is using a super powerful light pointed directly on the computers. Yeah they show up a bit but no where close to as bad as the m2 MacBook Air that didn’t have the coating

I think they’re great machines but agreed feels like money down the drain. I last had a 2017 fully spec 15 inch MBP. Set me back £2400. Whilst it was great there was always the feeling I never got full value. Since then I only buy base version of anything and actually using a windows machine at the moment. The one good thing I can say is that they rarely break down and just work….just not sure if that luxury is worth the price (I guess it is if you just buy a 2 gen old one)

@@JonAdamsCreatorHabits what annoys me most is the castrated MacOS. No plug and play. For many things that are integrated into Windows (split screen, a good working Finder called Windows Explorer, charge battery to 80% only and a few things more) you need 3rd Party apps and you need to pay for them. The M silicon and hardware can be fully appreciated. The battery life is fantastic. The materials of the body /housing. Then the Keyboard of an MBA: this is fully shit. It leaves marked after touching it because of the oil on the fingers. After 2 or 3 months of use the keyboard wears off. Apple Hello? You are a customer that buys a 1500USD machine with defective designed keyboard? Or does Apple want you to swap keyboards all the time. The topcase with the fused keyboard is 400USD, which is shit. I have bought my first and last MBA.

Shall i go for MacBook m3 pro or MacBook air m3 with 24 GB Ram and 512 ssd for high performance software development.?

hey man, i am joining university in couple of months and i am not able to choose between m2 air 15 inch and m3 air 13 inch as an mbbs student can you help me with this decision i am really confused i would appreciate your help and i love your content by the way the m2 one is 50 dollar expensive

Honestly it’s hard to pass up on that extra screen real estate, so you may want to go with the 15”

Just grab the M3 Pro 16" MacBook Pro, just do a RAM upgrade on it, good to go. Expensive, but that manhandles videos in premiere pro.

@@JonAdamsTech that's what I ended up doing. Premiere Pro just craves to use up as much memory as possible. Windows PCs with Nvidia RTX cards are different when using premiere pro. It'll use up all of the dedicated video memory instead of the RAM, I get away with just 16GB of RAM on those. It just uses up 14GB of the 16GB installed on it and use up all 6GB of vRAM on the PC instead on Premiere Pro.

Yeah I edit most of my videos on a pc I built but davinci uses all the resources just fine for me. Adobe needs to update all of their coding to get with the times haha
