I was reminded of the 30 for 30 "You Don't Know Bo" where the guy talks about the sound of the bat when Bo Jackson hit the ball. The guy had heard all of the greats since the 40s, and said he hadn't heard that sound for 20+ years.

I like how you can slowly see the stadiums fill up over time partially due to loosening restrictions/vaccinations but also because of the draw that Ohtani had become over the course of the season.

Ohtani definitely has draw BUT the increased attendance is all loosened restrictions

Many of those HRs were mammoth, and the opposing team's broadcaster had to exclaim about them with awe. That HR off the catwalk in Tropicana Field was incredible, and roughly equalled by the HR way up into the upper boxes of T-Mobile Park. Ohtani has so much power in such a smooth, quick, explosive swing that is beautiful to watch.

Shohei's HR is one of the loudest and sweetest sound of the bat & ball, most of his HRs were 380 to 400 feet, I can't imagine if Ohtani played at the small ballpark at Yankee stadium, he probrably hit 60 HRs also

Think about the season Shohei had and then realize he isn't even the best (edit: offensive) player on the team. And the Angels STILL would've missed the playoffs by Labor Day because nobody other than Shohei can pitch.

@@easetheweeb yes, either an intentional walk (he had the most at 20 including tying an all time record of 11 in 3 games) or throwing garbage pitches the entire at bat and hoping he would swing at them because he was the only decent hitter who could do any damage on the team. Again, if he played for the strong blue jays lineup he would have had 15 more HRs since he would have seen good pitches

8:55 "there's A certain sound for premiere hitters" The way it sometimes sound like a gunshot or firework when Ohtani hits a ball is electric. Everyone in every stadium starts to cheer. On a side note, rewatching these HRs and seeing how many are solo shots and how many are when the Angel's are close or down a lot goes to show how bad the team is outside of its big players.

Very few men have ever made the bat sound that way on HR hits. Babe Ruth, Bo Jackson, Josh Gibson, Mickey Mantle, and Barry Bonds were some of the few in history to achieve that solid of a swing and contact. It's known as "getting all of it"

It doesn't matter what team you cheer for. If you are a fan of baseball you have to love this guy because he is the type of player that brings fans in, keeps the game of baseball going. I've been lucky enough to grow up and watch so many of the top athletes on several sports and now this, 2021 was arguably the greatest season ever. I doubt that in a hundred years anyone will get even close to the kind of combined numbers he put out....seriously it was over a hundred years since Ruth put anything close to what Ohtani did.

It is definitely the longest hit at T-Mobile park, I have been to my fair share of games there and the size of the stadium combined with the elevation and humidity makes a 463 foot hr fucking insane. It is incredibly rare to hit into the top deck, it has only happened a handful of times, definitely less than 10

It's funny how homeruns to right field at Angels stadium used to require being into the stands but then they did the thing with the yellow line just above the wall and below the scoreboard. I was thinking he'll probably get a lot more HRs because of this but I don't think I saw a single HR from this clip that didn't end up in the stands anyways.

Notice how a lot of his HR's they were down by big numbers and they didn't count for much. Maybe this coming year, the Angels will get him some better supporting pitching/hitting. Would love to see him do this stuff in a World Series.

Admiring him like demigod, beyond an idol. Baseball fan in Japan couldn't stop talking about his stats and talent during the season. Kids and women love his smile and personality, men are in awe of his hight and strength. Made everyone happy and proud of his achievement. Enormous media attention every his move. All granted awards are on national news. National pride indeed.

When Bo Jackson hit a 500 ft home run in Royals Stadium off the crown of the scoreboard in center, Buck O'neal said "I've only heard that sound off the bat 3 times in my life....The first was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was today" Ohtani has that same sound off his bat ..... 7:26 that was my favorite homerun of the year. That was like a perfect-perfect for that location. That was when he was locked in like no other. If he can get back to that level of being locked in and hold onto it, he can be an 1.100 ops guy or even better. You can’t pitch to him when he’s hitting balls like that.

I was reminded of the 30 for 30 "You Don't Know Bo" where the guy talks about the sound of the bat when Bo Jackson hit the ball. The guy had heard all of the greats since the 40s, and said he hadn't heard that sound for 20+ years.

Ohtani definitely has draw BUT the increased attendance is all loosened restrictions
Many of those HRs were mammoth, and the opposing team's broadcaster had to exclaim about them with awe. That HR off the catwalk in Tropicana Field was incredible, and roughly equalled by the HR way up into the upper boxes of T-Mobile Park. Ohtani has so much power in such a smooth, quick, explosive swing that is beautiful to watch.

Shohei's HR is one of the loudest and sweetest sound of the bat & ball, most of his HRs were 380 to 400 feet, I can't imagine if Ohtani played at the small ballpark at Yankee stadium, he probrably hit 60 HRs also

Think about the season Shohei had and then realize he isn't even the best (edit: offensive) player on the team. And the Angels STILL would've missed the playoffs by Labor Day because nobody other than Shohei can pitch.

@@easetheweeb yes, either an intentional walk (he had the most at 20 including tying an all time record of 11 in 3 games) or throwing garbage pitches the entire at bat and hoping he would swing at them because he was the only decent hitter who could do any damage on the team. Again, if he played for the strong blue jays lineup he would have had 15 more HRs since he would have seen good pitches
Most people have no idea we are watching history right now. It'll be a long time before we see any other player this complete. Best baseball player ever.

I have a feeling he will inspire an entire generation of Japanese kids to become as great as him. I am Japanese myself and I have watched all of our sports get stronger and stronger the past couple decades.
It doesn’t matter what team you root for- you can’t help but smile when this dude cranks one out of the yard. He’s amazing.

8:55 "there's A certain sound for premiere hitters" The way it sometimes sound like a gunshot or firework when Ohtani hits a ball is electric. Everyone in every stadium starts to cheer. On a side note, rewatching these HRs and seeing how many are solo shots and how many are when the Angel's are close or down a lot goes to show how bad the team is outside of its big players.

Very few men have ever made the bat sound that way on HR hits. Babe Ruth, Bo Jackson, Josh Gibson, Mickey Mantle, and Barry Bonds were some of the few in history to achieve that solid of a swing and contact. It's known as "getting all of it"

It doesn't matter what team you cheer for. If you are a fan of baseball you have to love this guy because he is the type of player that brings fans in, keeps the game of baseball going. I've been lucky enough to grow up and watch so many of the top athletes on several sports and now this, 2021 was arguably the greatest season ever. I doubt that in a hundred years anyone will get even close to the kind of combined numbers he put out....seriously it was over a hundred years since Ruth put anything close to what Ohtani did.

It is definitely the longest hit at T-Mobile park, I have been to my fair share of games there and the size of the stadium combined with the elevation and humidity makes a 463 foot hr fucking insane. It is incredibly rare to hit into the top deck, it has only happened a handful of times, definitely less than 10

It's funny how homeruns to right field at Angels stadium used to require being into the stands but then they did the thing with the yellow line just above the wall and below the scoreboard. I was thinking he'll probably get a lot more HRs because of this but I don't think I saw a single HR from this clip that didn't end up in the stands anyways.
Notice how a lot of his HR's they were down by big numbers and they didn't count for much. Maybe this coming year, the Angels will get him some better supporting pitching/hitting. Would love to see him do this stuff in a World Series.

Admiring him like demigod, beyond an idol. Baseball fan in Japan couldn't stop talking about his stats and talent during the season. Kids and women love his smile and personality, men are in awe of his hight and strength. Made everyone happy and proud of his achievement. Enormous media attention every his move. All granted awards are on national news. National pride indeed.

When Bo Jackson hit a 500 ft home run in Royals Stadium off the crown of the scoreboard in center, Buck O'neal said "I've only heard that sound off the bat 3 times in my life....The first was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was today" Ohtani has that same sound off his bat ..... You're not wrong about the Ruth comparisons.

Had very few HRs the last 4 weeks of the season because they just pitched around him. Can't wait til Trout and him are number 3,4 in the lineup next season.
