The team that had Beckham, Owen, Lampard, Rooney, Rio, Ashley and more, couldn't get to the semifinals in 2006. but who knows what the current squad can do. 2014 was very disappointing hopefully this time it's better. From Syria and been a fan since 2002

Well as an Englishman I want to say thank you for your kind words of support. It is hard not to respect the German national team, the way they play and the German people in general. In some ways I would like to see us meet again in 2018 however I don't think it would be a classic by any means as you lot would probably destroy us lol or if we somehow make it pens, well we all know the outcome there :P. I'm sure their are people older than me who remember worse times as an England fan (possibly the 70's for example) however I can safely say as a 23 year old, this Is the most negative period of time I've ever seen the England fans. Since the end of the so called "golden generation" their really hasn't been much optimism or enthusiasm, just a sort of acceptance that we'll keep on failing one way or another (50 years of hurt and all that, it takes its toll). Hopefully if we do meet it will be a good game and we put up some sort of a fight, at this point though that is all we do.... hope. Good luck in the world cup, I always enjoy watching Germany play and your fans are also great, same as the kits (black, red and gold is my favourite colour combination) :P. All the best =).

Shame they couldn't bring it home, but well done lads out there...

I don't get why everyone is negative about England? It's football! Anything could happen, don't believe me, look back at when Leicester won the premier league. No one saw that coming, did they? I'm not saying England are going to win, but everyone saying how we won't make it out the group stage. Seriously, Panama and Tunisia. In my honest opinion I think we could make the quarter finals, maybe the semis, and at a push the final. If you are being so negative go support a different international team! Edit: We are ranked about 7th in the world, 8 teams in the quarter finals. So there you go, I know we lost to Iceland which was a joke, but we have a team full of young players with potential and a new manager, and not forgetting Harry Kane, arguably one of the best strikers in football. I also saw this post about the chances of different teams due to 10,000 simulations, and England have about an 8.3% chance of winning. That's huge! The only teams more likely of winning are Germany, Brazil and Spain. So according to the simulations, we are 4th most likely of winning, and have higher chances then France, Belgium and Portugal to name a few. Who cares if we don't win? I'm not saying it wouldn't be good to win, but at least the squad have tried. I don't know about you but I watch football for the excitement and knowing anything could happen, (that is what makes it the beautiful game)so no point being so negative about it, cause that just takes the fun out of it. Sorry if I've bored you to death. If anyone is still reading this I'll be very surprised.

England always choke badly. Lost to Iceland in 2016. Drew 0-0 v Costa Rica in 2014 & 0-0 v Algeria in 2010. England lost on penalties in Euro 2012, WC 2006, Euro 2004, WC 1998, Euro 1996. If you invest your emotions in supporting a team that always fails you will get hurt & disappointed

It might not be real that he's the greatest - he could definitely lose to the US karate master Thompson today but Till will never choke like the mentally deficient English soccer team always do

I somewhat agree with you there. It must be dispiriting to play for the national English side at times, as there often seems to be only negativity for the team, even when you play well. That said, I understand why many English fans are cynical these days: They've gone through several tournaments where the team has severely disappointed. English fans were much enthusiastic for their national side as recently as the early 2000s. EDIT: If England performs well in this WC, I have no doubt that the widely shared love for the national team will be restored.

looking at this after the squad has been announced and england are not taking alot of their goalscorers. only Kane Vardy and Alli actually score goals in the world cup squad. no cahill from set pieces. no sturridge or defoe..... there is gonna be a problem once either of them 3 arent in the team

Probably not mate. Unfortunately our youth academies are training any flair or unorthodox playing styles out of the youngsters. They turn them into players that are decent at everything, but not outstanding in any area of their game.
