I've never seen this clip before. The four of them are such dazzling talents - and Annie Ross is a wonder of nature. Thrilling!
it doesn't get any better
Maravilhosos...
• Oh, hell no, that's O.C. Smith, who later had a hit with "Little Green Apples", the 1969 Grammy Award Song of the Year. He sang with Basie from 1961-65 under his original name Ocie Smith. This is almost has much fun as the four singers appear to be having, rocking arm-in-arm. Check out Basie's new tenor player Budd Johnson, who's really enjoying it, and Basie and bassist Eddie Johnson grinning broadly throughout.

Excellent eye....I was just going to comment that it looks like tenor man Budd Johnson sitting behind them in the first row. As Beethoven was a major figure in the transition from the 'Classical' to 'Romantic' eras in classical music, Budd was a major figure in American jazz transitioning from 'Swing' to 'Bop' with his writing, arranging, personnel hiring, and instruction for the Earl Hine's and Billy Eckstine's bands during the transitional 1941-46 period. A true giant of American music.
Brasil na escuta.
