Музыка
Live at the Festival de jazz d'Antibes Juan-les-Pins France Nov. 19, 1961

Most often attributed to a Miles Davis composition but it was written by Eddie 'Cleanhead' Vinson with lyrics added later by Jon Hendricks

The more you hear Jon Hendricks' lyrics, the more you realize this was an extraordinarily wise and wonderful poet/philosopher that we had the pleasure of enjoying for many years. Recommended:His two interviews with Monk Rowe.

RIP Annie Ross . She was the last surviving member of this group.

Rest in Peace, Jon Hendricks. Your music was so inventive and joyful. You won't be forgotten.
Joni Mitchell said this group was her Beatles, as a kid -- and she still, as an adult, knew every word and note of their album "Lambert, Hendricks & Ross - The Hottest New Group In Jazz."
Before rap, before hip hop, there was scat and vocalese. I love these folks and their amazing music.

Such a modern and refreshing trio! Wonderful voices.
Ms. Ross is so totally in this song, while john sings, that its infectious
10 years old in 1983 seeing superman 3 movie with Annie Ross playing a villain,, now im enjoying her jazz music!
RIP - Jon - where on Earth did get a voice like that - sublime
Perfection in my eyes and ears and mind. R.I.P. Mr. Lambert and Mr. Hendricks. God bless Ms. Ross
This was a groundbreaking trio. Can’t believe it took me this long to discover them.
I would guess that Manhattan Transfer got some inspiration from these 3. Just beautiful harmonies. And the trio behind them is to die for.

Jon Hendricks was a major influence on & participant in the Transfer's masterpiece album, Vocalese. He wrote some of the lyrics & i believe also sang on one of the tunes. And royalgeorge, don't be a snark, it's not nice.
If I had to choose only one video in my jazz library, this vid is my top pick. In addition to LHR's talent, this is a classic Miles tune with added lyrics. It truly represents the jazz culture of the sixties.
Pure genius! What a gorgeous blend of musical genius!
They sound so good you don't even notice the lack of fireworks / choreography / stripping

This is called Bebop. It's a whole musical universe. The vocals emulate horn solos and use "hipster" talk. Love it. Annie Ross was one of the greats. She was part of "The Little Rascals" as a child.

These folks are IT, baby. First time I've seen Lincoln singing. Outta sight!
I love Annie Ross's body language..She's with every beat!!!
Brilliant.
They were swinging! Hendricks spitting out one the baddest Miles Davis solos in my opinion.
Lambert, Hendriks Ross was one of my most favorite groups growing up. From listening to the album my parents had.
This was one of most favorite groups when I was growing up. Back in the day.
Thanks so much for posting this! I was fortunate enough to have seen LHR when they visited England with Count Basie and his Orch. At that time I had already learned the lyric to 'Four' -- I had that track on LHR's 'The Swingers' LP -- and it has remained a very special pleasure for me ever since. I had no idea this footage you've posted existed..so, again, thank you SO MUCH!

I was born at the wrong time. Would’ve loved to experience LH&R live! Though grateful for these excepts!
Simply wonderful, musically, vocally and scenically
Excelente versión de este tema de Miles Davis, interpretado por el, probablemente, más destacado conjunto vocal del siglo 20, como fue LAMBERT, HENDRICKS & ROSS.
This is a great performance! Love how everyone is grooving, including the trio. As it turns out, I currently live in Les McCann's hometown of Lexington, Kentucky!
I LOVE THIS. I LEARNED HOW TO THINK AND READ MUSIC LISTENING TO THEM. GOOD MEDICINE.
This is so damn awesome!! Thank you so much for posting!
This group set the standard. Ain’t no one around these days to compare them.
So swinging. And true what others said here -- the lyrics Hendricks put to the music were great commentaries on our world, misguided desires...what pioneers these 3 were! I played with a great singer on a cruise ship years ago (Bethany Smith) doing LH&R's Cloudburst. Fantastic
Ahhh...such a groove. Pure genius. Thanks so much for your contributions LH&R!
I LOVE THOSE HL & R
I love you for this😺
Thank you, thank you for posting this. Before watching this, I only had heard Lorraine Feather doing the vocalese. Miles’ solo has been burned into my head for years. So pleased to hear LH&R do this live!
Insanely good.
Soooo goood.
just priceless
Never knew Eddie Vinson wrote that tune. I saw him in '71 in Portland when he toured with BB King's band. Nancy King does a good version of Hendrick's lyrics on her second album with Glenn Moore.

This. The vocal arrangements of LH&R (and later Lambert, Hendricks and Bavan) are pure genious and are often overlooked because the impressive vocalese lyrics get all the attention. The fact is, all the later torch carriers (Double Six of Paris -> Swingle Singers, Manhattan Transfer, Rare Silk, New York Voices, The Real Group, Take Six, Rajaton, Club for Five and the list goes on, fortunately) - they all had the benefit of 4 or more voices for complex harmonies. Here, just three. No multi tracks, no AutoTune, just pure singing. Raw and honest, unproduced (is that even a word...) Mind blowing.
benchmarks in vocal jazz for ever
RIP Annie Ross
this used to be a song for me.
Looooove Annie Ross
Great 👍 music 🎶
Magic.
Hi all. Just went thru my collection of old 45s and found an EP with this trio, taken from their 1958 LP. Kind of confuses me because the photo on the EP have them look like they do on this live video. On their ´58 LP they look entirely different. Maybe because they maybe switched labels. The one I have is Impulse label. No matter. I was curious as to how they sound, and I was blown away how cool they are. I´m a fan for life.
They had only three voices and the 'Double Six of Paris" came later and tried to copy them. Dave Lambert got killed on the Connecticut Turnpike helping change a motorists tire. Try their CD--you will love Annie Ross singing "my Analyst"
