Evening Prayer (Gjeilo, GEWC 2015)

This video features a lush arrangement of an endearing prayer of St. Augustine by renowned composer Ola Gjeilo, performed by the Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale during its “There is Sweet Music” concert on 08 May 2015 at College Church, Wheaton, IL. I set this beautiful performance to numerous photos I took while living in the Tromsø and Balsfjord areas of Norway (1999-2020). The photos parallel and evoke the musical setting, which starts soft and subtle, ebbs and flows in musical intensity, then drives forward until it opens wide in glorious rapture.
It takes a while for the song to reach its climax section, so please be patient and watch this video to the end of the song, or you'll miss its most thrilling moments!

Except to adjust minor artifacts in two images, NO PHOTOSHOP WAS USED.
(In this performance, I also sang tenor.)

The text is very old, a prayer of St. Augustine (354-430): -------- Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch or weep tonight, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend your sick ones, O Lord Jesus Christ; rest your weary ones; bless your dying ones; soothe your suffering ones; pity your afflicted ones; shield your joyous ones; and all for your love's sake. Amen. -------- I also run this text in the credits at the end. As for Senja, yes, I visited there a few times while living in Norway! As the photos show, Northern Norway is a beautiful place to live--I took all of those photos in the normal course of everyday life, always with a camera at the ready in case I came to the right place at the right time. Also, the people are wonderful, the culture is filled with art and music, the food is delicious, the way of life is laid back and family-friendly... Definitely a must on a bucket list! See my Web site (mhp777.com) for more photos of my time there (1999-2010); I try to add a few more to the site every couple of weeks.
