EVELO Compass Trike Review - $3.7k

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The EVELO Compass is a heavy duty electric trike with five levels of pedal assist, instant-power trigger throttle, adjustable top speed (the default is 16 mph for safety), large 180mm disc brakes, motor inhibitors on both brake levers. Comes with durable plastic fenders on all three wheels, a full-surround chain cover, three integrated LED lights, reflective tires, and a heavy-duty steel mesh basket with bamboo deck. Maximum weight rating of 400lbs, available in two colors (gloss white or green), approachable step-thru frame, comfortable oversized saddle, ergonomic grips, and high-rise handlebar. This trike is fairly expensive and, like most trikes, heavy at ~85lbs, the two battery bays use separate keys and can be a hassle to reach since they're mounted low, some assembly required when buying online.

Thank you Court for another informative and detailed review. I’ve been researching ETrikes for awhile and your reviews are always complete, honest and objective. It’s nice to have a reviewer you can trust. I’ve watched a lot of your reviews and purchased my wife’s and I Pedego Interceptors based on your review of that bike. I’m now looking at Trikes due to health issues. Thanks for being there to help!

Thank you Court for a fine review of this trike. I've researched and watched countless review videos on various trikes and have decided to purchase this trike. The people at Evelo are vey pleasant to talk to on the phone and are able to answer any questions that I have had. The only thing I would suggest is to updated this video. This Evelo model did apparently have a single rear wheel drive, but the new models have been upgraded with a differential so that both wheel drive and can turn independently from each other, which usually provides better traction. I also want to mention that the warranty is now 4 years or 20,000 miles. Not trying to be critical, just making a suggestion. I appreciate all the work you do for the bicycle industry ini doing these review. You takae care.

This weekend I helped an older gentleman I know who bought one of these. The fender mounting needed a little adjusting and he wasn't really clear about the electric controls. But we got it going and took turns test riding it down the street. We had it in the lowest pedal assist level at "1", and this was plenty of power for me. It felt like someone gently pushing you from behind and I felt like I could ride like that all day. Stop pedaling to coast and the pushing stops. I was a little shocked at the price but I guess good technology isn't cheap.

My bbs02 is also fairly quiet but I use an aftermarket grease for the drive gear and an aftermarket chain sprocket with wide/narrow teeth which surprised me making things more quiet. EVELO is not using a sprocket from Bafang as they don't make one 42 teeth. Also, EVELO may have lowered the motor's wattage to reduce heat in part because of their metal casing which won't allow the stock motor casing to dissipate as easily. I'll assume they have access to Bafang's factory software just like the aftermarket community to lower the output and adjust the throttle to start slow and easy.

Does it have a differential on the rear wheels for greater stability at cornering? The motor has *limited* power would have been much belter with a Bafang 1000 watt mid drive a lot more power with the gears well something a front hub motor cannot do

Maybe someday, you could always replace the chain ongoing... wouldn't cost that much and could cut down on the noise of a rusting chain. Most are made from stainless steel and hold up alright if you clean and lube them regularly :)

Your germane, constructive criticism should be welcome to a progressive bike designer. Logic, reason, and ergonomics dictate, if two batteries are installed, the battery installed unit on the left should be the default layout by virtue of its easier to access charging port, as noticed and pointed at by you . Great job as usual Court.Happy Holidays.phil

Can't help but compare it to much cheaper trikes like Sun 24 kit. They sure put a lot of effort on "flashy" side of things. Not so much in added value. Mid-drive or PAS are not too important on a trike, you are not going to pedal it much, a throttle without PAS would do. One smart idea here is the battery mounted below rear frame - though a mixed blessing, frees out the basket space but makes battery removal more difficult. Small perch of "2-wheel style" saddle, and their (optional) saddle with backrest is a flimsy Amazon part. No flat-foot position - hello people, trikes like this are supposed to be about comfort! Give us more value and less flash, please.

TheReal Traumatize, and two separate packs of batteries instead of one big custom made is not the best decision. After all this is the concept of the trike - it handles more weight and underneath the luggage basket is the perfect place for a powerful flat battery.

Yes, you could spend thousands of dollars on an eBike kzread.infoUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ and get something much higher quality. However, if you're looking for a basic model to try out eBiking this is a great choice. The assembly is easy as far as bikes go (took about an hour for me to do, I'm not an expert). All tools needed are included. I added the plastic mud guards you see and a more comfortable seat. The other reviews are correct that you're probably going to want a better seat (Giddy Up! Bike Seat is what I got - super comfortable). The battery easily handles a 2-4 hour ride if you add some of your own pedal power. I haven't even gotten it up to top speed yet - it is very fast. Components are not top of the line, but decent for the price and work just fine. It works great on dirt roads and singletrack and pavement although too heavy to do tricks or any serious technical mountain biking. I'm looking forward to using it a lot over the summer. Tons of fun!
