It is crazy how many chargers are awaiting connection. You would think that with the connections almost to the cabinet it would be a much quicker way, but unfortunately it is still so bad.

The Party in Government has the power to do something (if they are ever bothered). All other Political Party’s don’t have any power at all!

The fact that so many of the chargers are out of order is a blinking disgrace!! It’s time for the government to stop some of these DMOs from messing around with electric vehicle charging!!

The issue with government and council projects is that the money is allocated for the project, then halved halfway through and then no money is allocated for ongoing maintenance. In a microcosm we have a speed warning sign put up by SCC, which just needs cleaning, but they refuse to clean it as they have no budget. It will be the same for any charging infrastructure put in by government and councils. Sadly😢

SWARCO run Charge Place Scotland. They also provide the chargers as Cairn Lodge services, so I am guessing will be doing the other Westmorland Group services.

The Tesla Superchargers at Lifton are a godsend on the A30, for the run into Cornwall, even if they are £058p/kWhr, they mean that, taken with Trentham Gardens at Stoke, I can now visit relatives at both ends of the country without calling at the rip-off merchants. By the way, I tried charging at Cornwall Services last Autumn - with around half bays occupied no-one was getting more than 33kW.

Nice 1 Dave. We're having a spot of bother finding decent chargers in North Wales. We'll be staying at a caravan site on Anglesey in May. The owners have said we're not allowed to plug into the caravan, even though I can limit my car to 10 amps as not to overload. I explained this, to no avail. Their response was "there's a charger in the village". Yes, a single 7kw. Only good for overnight charging, if you are actually staying in the village. But we're on a site a mile away. The rest of the chargers on Anglesey are 50kw and sited at towns where there isn't really much to do for the 2 hours it would take for a full charge. So the nearest charger over 100kw is in Conwy, 32 miles away. It seems Anglesey and North Wales have only made token gestures towards a decent infrastructure. The best by far is the open Teslas at Flint.

We recently stayed at the Lewinnick Lodge in Newquay. They have 2 22 kw Tesla destination chargers that is open to none Tesla. They do share power so if two cars are charging the rate of charge does drop to around 6kw. Although they are 22 kw units I suspect combined they have a 12 kw limit. The chargers are FOC but only to staying guests. One of the reasons for picking Lewinnick Lodge was because they had an EV charger for guest use, the fact it was FOC was an added bonus. Another good location is the Bodmin Jail hotel. Very interesting hotel and we stayed there last year. They have I think 4 7 kw chargers which at the time were also FOC for staying guests of the hotel. At both hotels the chargers were always busy, unlike some people I kept an eye on my cars SOC via the app and moved the car off the charger when it had reached the SOC I needed. Freeing the charger for someone else to get on. Its a shame others didn't do this.

Eden project has plenty and were doing EV test drives

Have you looked in Falmouth three car parks have new chargers two have fast charger 4 bays & 2 , 7kw have a look?

Did you mention the 20 or so Mers destination chargers at the Eden project?

Grants aren’t always the answer, even if government made sure the charge point operators have a certain uptime or face giving some of the grant back in penalties, the smaller ones will just make a quick buck and cease trading, leaving behind faulty chargers.

Getting MP’s to actually do the jobs we employ them to do ? Nope that will never run, we wanted them to take control, they just took advantage wasting that more precious of commodities, time

IMHO Dave all these chargers will continue to be avoided by the majority of drivers ( unless you are really really low) until the price comes down to around 50/55pence per kw.

Good review Dave. You got Cornwall about right. Cornwall Council have just been given £5.5 million to develop its charging network. They were given money a few years back and appear to have had no idea what they were doing. Not keeping my fingers crossed unless they hand it off to people who understand. Also at several locations you have to pay the carpark fee while you are charging - ridiculous 🤬

No mention of charging stations for caravaners, probably more caravans go to Cornwall than any other county

Yes, it's a pain. I have to unhitch 3 times between Stoke and St Ives.

Good review i would expect a county where a lot of their income relies on tourism would have a vested interest in getting the charging infrastructure to support it, thats the problem with the British politician they don't see the bigger picture.

DNO Waste of time I’ve got my charger tripping out on a daily basis because there’s too much power coming into my property and I’m still waiting on the DNO to sort it out. i’ve even had to go to the ombudsman just to get them to tap it down because they don’t want to do it. If they can help it. they said to me try and get a charger. What can take a voltage of 259 my trips out at 253. I said there in not a charger out at the moment what can do that because the government have regulations for charges to trip out at 253. I said that what it’s come to. They don’t want to tap you down. It’s too much work for them. But I said at some point, you’ve got to do it because you’re breaking the law by putting too much voltage into my property. And you wonder why it’s taking so long to get these charges up and running

I’m changing my car from the Renault Zoe to a Vauxhall Combo Life Electric in July, and I anticipate driving west rather than south. The Zoe limits the charge to 50 kWh. The Vauxhall will take a charge of 100 kWh.

Did you look at destination chargers?

Don't forget the 8 v3 Tesla chargers at Camborne nr St Ives.

Not a fan of SWARCO chargers. Lots installed around Oxford but I’ve found them problematic.

Dave how do we know which Tesla Chargers are open to Non- Tesla. The test site hasn't been updated for ages & the app isn't easy to find them

With the latest Tesla app, once you've set your account up as a non-tesla owner etc, the map automatically filters for non-tesla owners and shows all chargers open to you.

Quite a few around the Rhyl area ,3 @ b and q carpark 75 kw Osprey ,2 @ McDonald's 120kw and the big hub in centre of Rhyl various sizes also 2 Osprey junction 27 Talardy Hotel St Asaph

There are 2 150kw Instavolts at Conwy Morfa Beach, on a caravan park, open 24/7. I'm going to have to use these when I go to Anglesey, as there are none there over 50kw.

My wife has just got a mini Cooper ev and works at a school that doesn't yet have chargers for staff, who is it they need to contact about getting some chargers installed???

Mer just installed chargers at a local university campus. They handled all the work and the campus just gave over some space. Profits to Mer I believe

may be you need to see BOB. i think he is a builder. I know that he can do it. he can fix it no problem yes I think that is the person you need to see Bob the Builder. the government has no control. so nothing will get done. even if Labour get in we will be no better off.

I don't understand, most of the people were local and normally charged at home? Unless it was a free charge, who would choose to pay the ridiculous public cost Vs the home cost? We chose an AirBnb with EV charging, so that made us "local" and other than Tesla @ Camborne for the drive down, never needed a public charger. Who are these people?

What about all the people who are staying at properties without chargers? Like the hundreds of cottages and apartments in St Ives for example. Or like me, towing my caravan from Stoke to St Ives? The Teslas at Penhale will be a boon for me, but I'll still have to unhitch and leave the caravan on the Shell Petrol Station while I charge. Once at the site, I can charge there no probs, but not many sites offer that.

@@djtaylorutubeHe said he met a lot of viewers there, and they said the lack of chargers isn't really a problem for them, as most of them can, and do charge at home. So I presume that some of the locals do public charge occasionally, but mostly charge at home. They were probably plgged in for a top up whilst shopping etc.

Always the same story. Everyone says we need more chargers, but red tape ties up the chargers we’re already subsidizing! I’m in Michigan (the US of course) but, same story. Just wasting money and frustrating everyone.

The government should close energy companies and the National Grid if it can’t cope with electric vehicle charging!!
