Lyrics
Love is a stranger
In an open car
To tempt you in
And drive you far away
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
Love is a danger
Of a different kind
To take you away
And leave you far behind
And love love love
Is a dangerous drug
You have to receive it
And you still can't
Get enough of the stuff
It's savage and it's cruel
And it shines like destruction
Comes in like the flood
And it seems like religion
It's noble and it's brutal
It distorts and deranges
And it wrenches you up
And you're left like a zombie
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
It's guilt edged
Glamorous and sleek by design
You know it's jealous by nature
False and unkind
It's hard and restrained
And it's totally cool
It touches and it teases
As you stumble in the debris
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession

There is nothing on earth more beautiful, seductive, and more singularly terrifying than Annie Lennox's eyes in this video. That woman owned the era on a level nobody even understood at the time.

If Blondie's Debbie Harry was the first New Wave Aphrodite then Annie Lennox was the second. She showed the way with "Sweet Dreams," though that had some Marlene Dietrich moves. " Love is a Stranger" Annie just let's all her sexy, insane introspection out and shows the world her dazzling eyes and devastating beauty. I don't think this song could have been written without their personal experience of romantic love. God bless Annie and Dave.

@@robertfraser8395 I know you're jesting but just out of interest, this track was released in 1982 (amazingly it didn't do well and was rereleased in '83) and the U.K.'s first mobile network launched in '85. So well ahead of its time. Presumably that was a TV remote.

I've always wondered why she didn't pursue more acting work, she'd SLAY any role given to her.
What makes this one of the best songs ever? I'm glad you asked! 1. The haunting keyboard arrangement is hypnotizing. 2. The pulsing beat is subtle, but perfect. It adds, but doesn't distract. 3. Annie's icy cool, emotional vocals help create a mystique and enchantment. 4. The production has held up; they didn't fall into many of the 80s production traps that now sound dated. 5. And, perhaps most importantly, Annie's biting, acerbic dissection of love. She refused to play the role expected of women in music where they long for love or are lost without it or are complete with it. Nope! Not Annie! If you're still reading, you're truly a fan! 😄

Yes, it's production quality that has never been equaled, and probably never will be. Even with today's technology and auto-tune etc... I think it would be very difficult to re-create the same atmosphere, and very unlikely the singing voice. Only Ultravox could get the same quality and lushness out of synths/rhythm boxes/FX etc...

@@BG-il2ym SO true. What I find amazing is that so many of Eurythmics' songs sound good with some bass or no bass. I sometimes listen to this song with the bass cranked all the way down or turned up to where I can baaarely feel the woofer vibrate. Another example, listen to Thorn in my side with the bass turned down then again turned up. I can't think of any other band where a significant number of their songs sound good with two different bass levels...

To me the greatest aspect of all the Annie Lennox videos and songs is that no two are the same. Each one stands on its own as a masterpiece in my non-musical opinion. I don't claim to have a great ear for music but if anyone says I don't like the Eurythmics or more specifically Annie Lennox then you're just not listening to the full body of work. She re-creates herself with every song and every note. She is amazing in my opinion. Her and Stevie Nicks have probably saved my life more than once. Amazing women, amazing voices, amazing messages!

Seems there is no more love but only lust. Because it is based on sense gratification, therefore there is love between a boy and girl, and as soon as there is a little discrepancy, there is divorce. They are separated. Because the whole principle was on the basis of lust. So there is no love.

If you're interested, have a look at the music video playlists on my channel. 1982 and 1983 are my favourites, and they have the most videos at the moment. This is 1982 for example: kzread.info/head/PL6oCQqv2KW6XTK18evV5q9WAua3eshkiS

Main memory stuck in my mind from my late teens regarding the Eurythmics was going to an outdoor concert and as they started playing "Here Comes The Rain Again"" it started raining and in the dark it was highlighted like a halo around Annie Lennox as she sang...I have a mental snapshot of that moment in my head.

i have ear all those songs since m 10 years in 1983 and listen it today not like the stinkt bull shit musics of today ,made on the corner of a table with in 10 minutes without any harmony, any inteligence, any color, any texture, any chord progression ...just make me vomit...
A true masterpiece of the 80's and obviously one of their best songs if it's not THE BEST. The music is hypnotic and sublime, the video is dark, intense and twisted and Annie Lennox is sultry and at her best both vocally and aesthetically

This is such an intriguing video. It's a masterpiece. A work of art. It goes perfectly with the song. Such a haunting song that could only be mastered by Annie Lennox herself♥

What a chameleon Annie Lennox was then. Just as mesmerizing to watch as she is to listen to.

Annie Lennox is a natural beauty without makeup
Such a magnificent arrangement of traditional and modern instrumentation (e.g. tremelo), coupled with Annie's sweet, haunting voice. Transports me every time I hear it. It's 2022 but in listening to it I'm tripping back 40 years, when I first heard this brilliant tune in Germany.
I like listening to this song all the time because sometimes I can remember it in my head by whistling every day at work 😊
I'm always amazed at HOW different Annie Lennox looks in her various outfits during the course of the video.

StonyRC Yup. It took me several views of the video to realize that the man in the back of the limo was Annie. Annie! I just didn't see it at first but gradually, by focusing on one part of her face at a time, I got to see that wasn't a man that looked like her, it Was her! I'm still spellbound.

The only place I remember this song was actually on one of the very first episodes of Beavis and Butthead, and they absolutely destroyed this video/song (made fun of it). The past 17 years though I have been living in Athens, listening to the radio more often than not and visiting clubs enough, and the only place I have heard this is here. So this song has been forgotten by the media and popular culture. What the world's media and pop culture never seem to forget though is their anti-trump fascism (cause fascism is exactly that: narrow mindedness until the point of stupidity). What did you expect from a world that is so stubborn it refuses to see Trump's accomplishments, and the one's he has are credited to anyone/anything but Trump???

I remember when this video hit Mtv; I had already seen the Sweet Dreams video and hadn't fully recovered from that trauma when this was aired. My 15yo self suddenly became smitten with Annie in the blonde wig. However I didn't quite feel naughty enough for her in the brunette wig. Still love the song!
I grew up with this song and I still love it. '80's s songs were awesome.
She is what a woman would envisage their ideal selves to be. Fierce, bold and beautiful. What a legacy to this world! Love you forever Annie X

@@samd1405 The "controversy" stemmed from a silly overreaction from MTV. When they aired it, it was oddly, being shown on a "live" stream to TV and a second screen that was played slightly ahead of the first video for the editing department. The editors saw the shot of her yanking off her wig and ridiculously, thought she was a male crossdresser! So they shut down the broadcast! That's why US viewers were outraged that the footage was cut. In Europe, it got a different reception and this was voted the best music video of 1982.
I love that KZread keeps giving me this to watch. It’s bloody clever and makes me chuckle every time
