I hope so too. Sadly, Erinaceous europaeus are having a VERY hard time the last couple of years: farmers and gardeners are spraying this RoundUp / Glyphosate poison like there is no tomorrow, killing weeds that would have served insects. As a result, the insect population fell by over 70%, and hedgehog find no food anymore. Even worse, a new trend is for home owners to hermetically close their gardens with impenetrable fences: they forget to leave little openings for wild roaming hedgehogs. It's a pity.

I spent a summer with my aunt in Germany. She had a friend who lived in the country and this friend would leave dishes of milk out every night in order to attract hedgehogs. We visited them one night and I got to hold one they had been tamed. Unfortunately, they are plagued with fleas.

It is not recommended to give milk to hegdes as it causes diarrhea, unfortunately

Hedgehogs are lactose intolerant, please, do not give them milk ! Cat food is ok for hedgehogs & water is good for any animal !

I really don't get why people all over the world seem to think milk should be left out for animals. Presumably they saw it in a Disney film once and just assumed that's the best thing to give a wild animal. It's crazy. Life as we know it wouldn't exist without water, yet the penny still hasn't dropped with most people that it's a better idea to give animals water than milk ffs!

Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals, so if you see one during the day is beacuse probably he is sick or has a problem. So if you can, contact some center of your country that take care of wildlife, so they can cure him and release him. Hedgehog in these years suffer a lot because of climate changing, so please help them. And please, be careful when you mow the lawn or something else in you garden, they usually stay in the shadow side of the garden or under the bushes.
