enjoyed the video! I felt the same when I picked it up, also played it in VR with my fanatec wheel in my racing cockpit, with Reverb G2. Then the other day I got to drive the real DAF 16 tonner bakwagen, for my code 95 upgrade.. and driving at night around OSS.. i was mind blown how close this sim felt to real life and controling the full truck. and in real life it has the same meditational simplicity, super relaxing to guide the truck around the streets and roundabouts at night!

I play both this and ATS in vr with a metaquest 3 headset and virtual desktop wireless, also got the ATS sim panel for added immersion, ok, so with the vr headset on you cant see the buttons and switches as easily but just being able to physically pull the park brake on and off and turn the start key is amazing. I barely play any other game as much as these two and once you have played them in vr you cant go back to pancake mode.

@@EuroTruckDriver365 Oh i am very satisfied. Especially the lenses, but keep in mind battery life. WIth wired PCVR and a good cable, the battery will drain way slower tho.

i play both vr and monitor when playing tmp. playing with vr and wheel is very calming for me, overlaying a podcast, show or listening to old music. 3,500 km trip from spain to russia or turkey is the best.

What I really like about this game: the developers manage, despite all the restrictions (I'm talking about tiny cities), to show the characteristics of each country. in other words, if you see something around in any country, most likely you will see it in reality. Russia, Türkiye, Bulgaria, etc. What I don’t like: the game still uses 1 processor core, which is why there is so little traffic around, and traffic mods kill your FPS)

Good news regarding that last point, during a recent livestream it's been revealed that SCS are currently actively working on that! We should see updates that are getting the initial infrastructure ready for multicore support soon :)

American truck simulator is my most played vr game love turning off all the traffic laws and racing from job to job while grandma on the gps shows me the way

I play this with a 3 monitor set up and it's more enjoyable BUT the vr side like you said does show you how big the trucks are in a better way 😂 lol great vid

I was really surprised playing this game in VR as it is 10 years old. The Mods really make it fantastic for VR!

VR in ets 2 just terrible. the general consensus is that it is a side-project by one employee. the anti-aliasing is non existent for decades for both VR and monitors, so much worse with VR. you get a lot of frame drops that kick in ASW / motion smoothing / equivalent etc and the performance headroom is a joke because it is so unoptimised. its only bearable at night or when its foggy where the catastrophic shimmering aliasing is hidden, making driving pretty good. but SCS priorities are trailer brands and stream of dlc maps with no stopping.

This is the dream way to play right here! I think all I'm missing from my setup is the wheel stuff to be able to do this

A steering wheel makes it 10x better even without a VR headset. If you don't have a steering wheel but a controller, that's also a lot better than keyboard.

I play both ETS2 and ATS in VR. Since I started in VR, I just can't go back to flat screen. The game keeps growing as the devs keep pushing free updates with game add-ons and improvements. A new game graphics/software engine upgrade is just around the corner to release(suspect is Q1-2024). Their map DLCs are great too and they keep adding countries(ETS2) and states(ATS) on the regular at a fair price. They are just about to wrap up their yearly "Hauloween" event which is great. Next is the yearly Christmas Hauliday event and the community looks forward to it as the company streams the event launch while the CEO discusses what things they are working on and things they want to add in the games. The community is tight and vocal. The devs listen and deliver.

@@hash-CCFF00 I’m using the Rift S. Its a pretty good PCVR headset. I’m thinking the Quest 3 would be the better option now as the refresh rate, lenses and resolution surpasses the Rift S by quite a bit.

Imagine hand tracking implementation in VR where you can press buttons on the track with your hands to perform certain actions like in real life

Love playing this in VR. I just do quick jobs and it’s relaxing.

ATS + VR + wheel and pedals + buttkicker = awesomeness. With buttkicker you feel the engine vibrations through your seat.

Im so happy I tried this now I have to get friends that have the same and hang out like we really have a job driving trucks 😅😂

I bought it esp. for VR but gave up with the controls. It ran perfectly in VR but I didn't manage to get it running with a g29 wheel + gamepad combination and/or quest 3 controllers. It still needed tons of buttons on the keyboard. I'm not a PC gamer, I only use the PC for gaming in VR, for the rest I prefer consoles. I just want plug and play and this game shows quite clearly that you have to invest a lot of time to get a game running as you want it to run on a PC. Maybe I give it another chance someday.

an addition is coming out where they will finally add support for assigning multiple actions to one key (you can just click and hold the button. They will also add an activator so that you can make combinations) in general, there will definitely be enough buttons on the g29 for everything)

Could you please share the list of mods you used? Even a screenshot would help. Thanks LPT: if you have nvidia gpu, you can use their version of reshade to make the game look even prettier.

I can't wait to upgrade to the Quest 3 to try this along with other games. Playing American Truck Simulator in VR is great and made me consider getting my CDL since I already drive a lot in real life as an Uber driver.

Hey @Mister8Moon , I've been playing on Quest 3 and it is awesome! especially with pancake lenses, It's a big upgrade from Quest 2 however at night it's unbearable... and without a 3rd party headstrap i get headaches after 40 minutes of playtime I would really hold off until a better headset comes out with OLED panels which might be a bit more pricey but worth it in the long run. Playing at night pretty much ruins it for me when i see Grey & some smudge i can't get rid off which is i think the downside of pancake lenses from what i read online. Steam is supposedly working on a headset and it's probably going to be a really good one. (however not sure when it comes out) , another one would be BigScreenVR which does have OLED lenses but it's quite pricey imo. Anyways i wanted to let you know ahead of time because it is something that's bothered me and disappointed me as i love driving at night.

@@hash-CCFF00I used to play on Quest 2 before and compared to Quest 3 it is definitely a big difference. The only bad thing is yeah at night the lack of oled makes it terrible and completely breaks the immersion for me. And the resolution is much better with the pancake lenses. But yeah $299 vs $499. Quest 2 is a good headset still but again it’s also LCD screen so the blacks won’t be fully black. Maybe for others it’s not a big deal but for me it made me hate driving at night.

Bro how's your manage to get rid of the black annoying edges on the sides of the screen or better yet did you record using the oculus mirror software?

Go and get a used Quest 1. They might not be the best VR headset right now, but they are dirt cheap on reselling websites (like cheaper than Track Hat). I still have my old Quest 1 and it is not that bad for playing games. Since you would use it for PCVR it does not even need a lot of onboard memory.

They could easily use current AI to overlay Google Earth with detailed roads, trees, grass etc. This way you could drive around in VR and experience the real world. And it should be streamed just like msfs2020 because of the size.

Image is blurry, game is jittery and not stable at all. Not worth playing in VR. Non-VR is much much better.

This game is also perfect for listening to podcasts, audio-books, etc., while playing. There is no better game for this.

You should mention what mods you have been using

Have they made any vr performance updates lately? I haven't been on in a while

when I first play this was on a curve screen, and I was not satisfied because i want the feeling of immersion in driving. so when i got the meta quest 2 i tested it. and it was minblowing. my first reaction was WOW! it's like driving in real life, I feel my chair was moving! but suddenly 10seconds to the game i suddenly felt dizzy and the feeling that i had to vomit. maybe I just have a bad eye. for now I stopped playing it in vr. I had the whole day feeling sick (lol).

2 big turrn off though, no sight of the keyboard so you have to either remember buttons placements or looking underneath the vr set and second,the resolution in the vr head set is way too arsh and too low resolution to have a decent experience.

@Lau, are you using a gear shifter as well? If not, you're losing out on extra immersion. The clutch and gears simulation is top notch in ETS2 - the best I've played so far. The only thing I wish I had was proper turn signal and wiper switches.

I do have a clutch but no Shifter, just the shift things behind the wheel. Would that work aswell? Just been driving automatic right now. Perhaps we should do a ride together soon!

@laubox not the same with the shift pads, but you can give it a shot. I have an H shifter and it works beautifully. I feel like a trucker. Time zone difference makes it hard to find common time. Maybe Sunday?

the modern dafs work with a little stick, 12 gears flipping through it. No clutch needed. and a lot of engine braking, three settings on a little stick as well.

@@laubox A clutch only makes any sense with a real shifter. The shift paddles make a clutch obsolete. But as you seem to never have driven a car with a manual you won't feel the sensation. Manual shifting is something else. Unfortunately a dying thing in real life.

@@laubox Nowadays, trucks with a manual transmission are almost impossible to find on the real streets of Europe, but if you buy a mod for a 6-7 gearbox from a truck, playing is really more fun

Wow I was wondering if the quest 3 works with ETS2 and ATS, now I have my answer! I don't like meta but it seems to be the logical choice at the moment... Apple vision can't do this stuff with steam etc.

i just recently jumped into vr with ets2 and .. its pandoras box for all the shortcomings like the bad aliasing and view distance and alikes its still very very servicable and enhances the gameplay by undescribable much compared to the flatscreen though i also got a proper wheel setup going there.. wouldnt work on controller or LB/M and now i even enjoy driving through the boring regions.. why pandoras box? TMP kind of denies the VR.. but i dont want to go without anymore :(

I play ATS VR for the first time with the Quest 2, instantly crashes my game due to changing my reflection within config and a lot of mods that would keep crashing the game. In the end, I’ll use ETS2 for VR and ATS just running alot of mods

Somebody should do us all a favor and show how to set it up to run well in VR. I just ran it my Quest 3 and its so juttery I got sick as a dog.

if only you didn't need a €3000 pc to play this...

1:31 these flickering edges on bridge are terrible in VR. I'm still waiting for AA mod which works on non vr version currently;/

one BIG issue about Ets2 and Ats in VR, the FPS is caped at 45

No its not. What caps the fps is the hz settings for your vr. If you put it to 90hz but only get like 60fps it will reduce your frames to half the display frequency (45fps). Maybe try to either lower your vr display frequency or deactivate motion smothing in your steam vr settings Also ets caps the fps according to your monitor refresh rate even when using vr. A.e.: you got a 60hz monitor but your vr runs at 90hz + your system is powerfull enough to run 90fps you still end up getting capped at 60fps. There are a lot of great tutorials out there for adjusting your config file and start options to maximize the fps if you find yourself struggling to get 60+ Make sure to start the game in directX 11 Mode this will significantly increase your fps as well Also you can try out some VR Tools for supersampling like OpenVR FSR but I personally prefer to go without these since it makes the overall noise and antialiasing a lot worse. Hope I could help!

You can play it though a Quest of course, but you need a PC for this game. It's not available on standalone.

Try American truck sim , much better . I agree I guess play any sim is way better and fun with VR but in the same time remember VR can and will have a bad effect on your eyes and to me this is something which is not worth it .

You are not an trucker until you are not shit and eat in your truck. Oh and not shower over 7 days

​@@HenriqueBonadioive used it for over 2 yrs on airlink and 90% looked and run fine. Then recently sinxe i got the Quest 3 (was on Quest 2 before) it runs terrible on airlink. Exact same settings and all it does now is a kind of blur / fast stutter every 3 seconds constantly. Tried fsr mods and all sorts and it just wont run smooth wirh me anymore. I switch to Virtual Desktop whixh by far is the best visual way to play it, super super crisp, but i just get loads of frame drops / stutters via VD. Any tips would be MUCH appreciated. 🤘🤘🤘🤘

I'm using quest 3,air link looks muddy,but vd in godlike mode 500 bitrate is super clean!!! don't forget to turn on the SSW,it will double your fps

How did you get it to be so smooth?

It's not 10 years old! The update at least every 6 months, so it's never more than half a year old.

The age refers to when it was released not when the last update came out. ETS2 was released in 2012 therefore it's more than 10 years old.
