SCS Software is by far my favorite game developer. The beauty they manage to create, the so realistic world that when I'm driving through Hungary and Romania I RECOGNIZE where I am, the smallest details they went into is just mind blowing. Simple and realistic (and if its not realistic enough, u can flood it with mods).

I can't agree more, SCS is one of the best developers in the games industry. Every update and DLC they put out, you can feel the love and commitment they have for this and ATS. I have brought their games right from the very beginning (18 Wheels of Steel), it blow my mind, and they've been blowing my mind ever since. I just hope I live long enough to see the last of the DLCs, to see the game in its full glory. Fuck that, I'm taking my computer and internet connection with me when I die. LOL

I believe, that adding a multiplayer played quite a significant role for its popularity - in the early days, it was quite lonely to play all alone, then TruckersMP appeared in 2014 and now SCS made their own multiplayer

Depends on the style you like to play. I like to heavily mod the game and at this point it makes no sense to use multiplayer. It sure is cool to have dozens of other players arround, but I prefer having my truck perfectly and realisticly styled with my own unique skins.

@@ThunderSky If I wanted to get rammed off the road by some 10 year old in an overpowered vehicle I would just play Forza Horizon or something. I tried Truckers MP for like a couple of hours and just dropped it forever as it was the complete opposite of what I want in a trucking game. I can't be bothered with convoy either as I don't feel like having 7 other people on the map really changes the way you play. Maybe if I had a bunch of friends that also played but even then like I really can't what I'm going to get out of it over just playing single player. I don't play as much as I used to but ETS2 and to a lesser extent ATS are still great games to just drive and chill to.

i know that this is a truck sim, but i play ETS2 with my friends for driving a "car" long distance. This is literally the only game that allowed this gameplay. Using mods, we drive the E63, S60, S600 W223, and Land Cruiser driving in convoy from Iceland to Saudi Arabia. No other game allowed us to do this.

@@TheMatsushitaMan just like driving a car. But from 30 or so car mods i tried, less than 5 are close to realistic. Even those mods i have to re modified it myself. Some are about 70% good but when i try to open the files its encrypted, so i skip it. Iirc it was ETS version 1.39 or 1.38, this is the mods i recommend, however i dont remember the modders anymore. The W212 E63 is good, but the steering adjustment doesnt work and the wiper is very buggy. The volvo S60 is a good one but sound wierd. W233 S600 this one is very good mod. The LC 200 is good, but the facelift VXR kit make the rear signal light reversed. The X167 GLS is also a good mod, but there is a big mercedes logo bugged just on top of the car. The GLE i think its the latest V167, physic good, handling okay, but the car 3d dimension is very very wrong, its way too big. Overall distance from Iceland to Saudi without counting the ferry, and convert it to real scale its only around 600km. Everyone should try it.

Also the effort SCS Software put into this game and their engagement and attencion towards the community are amazing! You mentioned about them constantly updating the game with new features and DLCs, but one more thing they're doing right now is reworking from scratch the older areas of the game, those from the base map created back in 2012, to look unique, realistic and with today's level of quality just like the newer DLCs. How cool is that!

Smart. If the foundation is sound, occasionally rebuilding that which is above ground is the smartest thing a developer can do. Instead of trying to milk the same players yearly for an almost identical game with questionable changes, they follow the 'if it ain't broke' philosophy which makes everybody happy except for greedy CEO's and Investors.

I've been playing it since the beginning, in fact I was a ETS1 player and for me, the biggest reason of this game success is the relationship between devs and community. The devs are always supporting and working on the community requests and everything they do it's with much care, respect and appreciation for the game. That's why I've bought every single DLC even being unable to play them all, to support this awesome company that gave us the best sim game ever

SCS started off with this project with under 20 people (SCS is now up to 200+ and still has no debt) and you could only buy the game in physical format. I had a question due to owning two PCs at the time and asked do I need to buy the game twice - one for each PC (I think I now brought the game over 15 times) and they emailed me back in great English saying our English-speaking person only works part-time and I get a full reply back in X days.

Some weekends when I have nothing to do, I dress up in my good clothes, sit at my office and play ets2. I'm 22 and have been playing the game for more than a decade. To me this game is above everything that I have ever played. Because of it's simplicity, development and realism that it has. I bought my mac studio for work and as soon as I realised that I can play ets, I immediately downloaded it. I guess it's the fact that you can see your native town where you were born and for me living in a foreign country, it's a bless. Plus, as you said,it's therapeutic.

I love playing ETS2 on my Steam Deck not only because it’s an excellent sim with a vast world, but I find it really relaxing. Just driving and seeing the countryside pass me by, it puts me in a good headspace. I tell my partner it’s my “brain turn off game” because I play it for a half hour or so before I go to bed. I think ETS2 is proof that a game can be relaxing and calming without being boring.

One other thing that bring players back to this game are the World of Trucks events where you can play in single player along with all the community to realize a goal such as deliver Christmas presents. If you partecipate in this free events you are awarded some esclusive cosmetic DLC (usually a livery and a cab ornament). There is also a timed event at the release of each new DLC to explore the new zone so I often buy them at day one. SCS is one of the best developer for community management, and for pricing policy: they choose a business model to release trucks and game updates for free, and sustain development trough map DLC, trailers, and cosmetics and the pricing and schedule of release of both ETS and ATS is really affordable.

For reasons that I cannot explain, this game will never seem to bore me forever Apart from the possible occasional burnout of course I've been playing this game since about October 2015, & despite all the time that I've been mostly consistently playing (& building so many as roughly 5.8k hours) it's still almost just as generally relaxing as it was first starting off. Of course the main difference is these days I know a lot on how the game works. Granted that plus the fact I play with hundreds of mods on singleplayer profiles. But nonetheless, this game for me is just the perfect match you could say. It's the most played thing on my Steam profile to this day and likely always will be If you were to mix in attending large-scale events on the third-party servers for TruckersMP, if they're planned out quite well those can also prove quite fun surprisingly. Even though in my opinion most the drivers in the busy areas on their servers are, shall we say not the most behaved Someday I even have plans to try driving lorries first-hand as a job which may partially be from this game. Have gotten all the required things done to drive them so just waiting for the good chance at this point, but also. Put simply, vehicles & especially lorries like in this game (or ATS too) are a special interest of mine. When you mix in mods with DLC's the amount of customization options available can be so insanely specific. There's quite a lot on this game which in ways I can't explain never become boring, ever. The map mods, trailers, accessories, it all adds up when they're so well balanced

the main attraction point of this game is the main game loop. As you said in the video it is just driving from point A to point B with some goods on the/your trailer. But, especially with all the DLCs, the world is so huge that it never really gets boring driving through the scenery. The diversity of goods to deliver is another point - for some freight you have to change your driving according to the length of the trailer to be a bit more cautious. There are plenty of narrow roads to navigate through with care, which can be quite thrilling - and at the same time it is so relaxing to drive the highways or the autobahn. The latest additions like scenic points, hidden roads to discover and points of interest where you have to take a picture are fantastic, too. I always search on the map for these and try to plan my route to get them :D This is the game that got me buying a wheel, too. That changed the experience immensely in a positive manner. I play this game since 2014 with close to 1,000 playing hours. Sometimes I take a year off, but I always come back to discover added features with newer versions :) I wonder if the game won the "Labor of Love"-award by Steam, yet? It should!

One thing I like is that ETS2 (and the similar ATS) continue to receive updates and new content, both paid and free. If you want to expand your map, you can pay for as much or as little map expansion as you care about. As SCS has grown bigger over the years, they are now able to start releasing updated trucks with increasing frequency. I also feel like as time has gone on, SCS has only increased their standards of realism and graphics. As a non-European, I also liked being able to drive around and get a little simulated taste of what these European countries are like.

Despite not being a semi driver myself - I am a huge sucker for vehicles that can carry literally everything, and thanks to modding - you can somewhat safely use roadtrains in there, because in reality - trailers bigger than HCTs are completely forbidden in Europe, but the game does not have restrictions for that - you can just go with it and legitimately deliver cargos with no trouble if you know your paths and your vehicle.

It's one of the games that I played with crack when it launched and bought it on a steam sale just because I liked it so much and wanted to support the devs. It got better over the time and a lot of features was added and the mods just made it even better. Also, the multiplayer (truckersmp) is also splendid and playing with friends is an awesome experience (even with just the base game multiplayer). It's one of the games that makes you want to buy a steering and pedal setup just so you can drive more for hours and hours and it's really therapeutic.

SCS are an incredibly dedicated company who actively listens to their community and adds what they ask for (usually - I'm still waiting for them to update the UK because the map is still from UK Truck Simulator released way back in 2010), constantly tweaks the engine to make it as realistic as they can, while apparently always trying to make modding as easy as they can. Just recently they've added used trucks to the game while revamping the damage model, which means it makes more sense why you can still buy trucks that ended production just after the game came out, and adds a whole new layer to the early game. I can't wait to see what the modding community does with that.

The real reason is the meticulously detailed game world. Back in the pre PS3 days you just see sceneries and roads pop-in out of thin air. Today the processing power allows maximum draw distance to be achieved, and instead of chasing "RTX RAY-TRACING ULTRA SHADERS 4K" the developers simply polishes the technology of 2012 to deliver what the best they can achieve with the engine. And it worked.

very nice explanation, but you also have to give a point to third party addons like truckersmp, a massive mutiplayer with millions of people registered via steam acc that uses the whole map with routes that literally get jammed for hours , theres also stuff like Trucksbook wich is a Virtual company web that takes the miles youve driven in game and logs it there and theres a ranking with like 20.000 people logging miles every month just in ets2 some even spending 10's of hours to be at the top, also the people you meet when you join tmp and a virtual company ive had some good friendships come from this game, dont forget also about american truck simulator wich might not have the same number of players but still with dlcs its already at like 45% of america in the game and its also really fun to drive on that game, great video!

Fisrt time I played this game was back In 2013. I was in college at that time. I didn't even know I could run this on my basic laptop. To my surprise, it ran very well. Growing up as a kid in India, I always liked to sit in the front seat of the bus to feel like driving the bus. And when I played this game for the first time, I was hooked. I was skipping college to play this game LOL. Most of the time, I was just running an empty cab to accelerate quicker. And not to mention the DLC to override the speed lock. Man, it was so much fun and relaxing. That ultimate POV driving view is what makes this game so good.

I am not Truck fanatic irl. I am playing ETS 2 since 2013-2014. It's like therapy, you can spend hours with it and its really like therapy to drive around Austria and Scandinavia's beautiful scenery, map modelling is in top-notch, details, and quality is awesome. Sounds of game, nature, ambiance, interior, and animals adds nice atmosphere. and highly detailed interior and exteriors of trucks is perfect ( when you open windows of truck small button have animations at doors) weather dynamics is also good. Brands and companies have deep features. their logos is designed well, there is lots of companies, all companies have suitable places what they produce, same company have Cyrillic text at Russia, latin at Germany for example. every country have its own license plates at cars which is accurate as irl. Tuning of Trucks is top level, both exterior/interior with the DLC s you will get more. having Licensed trailers is something blows my mind, you can think that trailer is just trailer not important part of game, but they have couple of real life licensed brands for trailers. AI of traffic is also good and improved. Diesel prices changes in different regions. Economy of the game is good. you can really enjoy while working for your career/company all features works like charm. there are a lot to say about ETS 2 but these are the main things made me fall in love.

I got my first steering wheel setup for my PC for Christmas when I was little and I've been playing ETS2, Hard Truck II, OMSI and NFS since then. At the age of 23 I just got a 2022 Renault T480 almost brand new truck so now I can play ETS2 in real life, the only difference is if I crash here there is no ESC button. Other than that I simply look at this entire job as a pc game but now with real steering wheel, real buttons, real pedals and real traffic. Trucking is probably the coolest thing ever, I can sit 8-9 hours a day and watch Netflix while transit through Germany and getting payed 2000-2500 euros a month for basically playing ETS2.

I also got a full cockpit with direct drive for ETS2, iRacing, ACC etc. With ETS2, I don't know but its fun. Some days you wanna just decompress/destress. And drive a truck online with local radio playing. Something soothing about it. Or joining TruckersMP and drive with other drivers online. I elevated it by equipping a Quest 2/3 VR on my set up. And it really feels like you are literally in the truck sitting infront of the steering wheel. Id have sessions where I drove one of the longest route following road signs and traffic lights. I was there driving for 3-4 hours with VR goggles.

I love ETS2 and ATS, as you and almost every comment has said, the beauty of the game is the therapeutic and relaxing experience of driving through hundreds or thousands of beautiful rodas and landscapes. Our modern real world and videogame world is bombing us constantly with stress from work, negative news, action, explosions, enemies to deal with, races and timetrials to beat...that it is nice just to sit relax and drive aat your own pace. Internet radio stations from anywhere in the world and the option to add your own music to the game is a great adding as well. I used to download GTA talk shows and listening them while hauling stuff through Europe/US, laughing my ** off. The mod community is crazy, lights, props, engines, liveries. I usually drive on the road while having Obi Wan Kenobi or Darth Vader on the passenger seat lol.

Played this game since 2017 and I have 1,600 hours. I believe the mutliplayer mod of ETS2 'TruckersMP has played a major role in it's popularity. As a former staff member of the Game Moderation team of TruckersMP I noticed very well that the player environment attracts many players to feel the experience of actual players instead of AI traffic. But on that server you won't expect simulation very much due to GTA behaviour. I'm not sure if you mentioned or not, but Promods has it's own version of the map which adds way more exploration experience with more realistic roads, this is also implemented in multiplayer however now SCS has about a year ago or 2 released the official multiplayer for ETS2. I agree that this type of game would eventually die out but many of the serious and professional players including me like to hop on once and a while and drive around while listening to a podcast.

I a 100% agree to what you said that no matter your age, you can get into Euro Truck Sim. My father got into gaming when I installed Call of Duty, and it took him awhile to get used to the almost twitchy gameplay (especially multiplayer) and when I showed him this game, he immediately got used to it and could even do a backwards parking pretty on just a short time.
