I had an MG ZT 2022, bought July 2022. In late November a car crossed the median strip and hit the back of my car, my car did a semi spin, I then went over the median strip (the lawn part in the middle of roads, I don’t know exactly what they’re called) I hit a car on the opposite side, smashed into their back door and the side of the boot, did another semi spin then kept going and had a spilt second decision, hit a house or hit one of 2 Gumtrees, huge trees. I chose the tree, slam!! I can still hear the impact and my brakes squealing. The damage to the car was the right hand fender all the way up to the windscreen, and the wheel was taken off it’s wheel hub (?) and had turned backwards, sort of hanging there almost under my door. (In Australia, we drive on the opposite side compared to the US.) I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some sort of protection, solid steel or something that stopped me from being seriously injured, hard to explain, the damage to the car stopped at the dashboard/windscreen . I sat there stunned, shaking and wondering how I wasn’t hurt, not even a bruise. The windscreen didn’t even smash. Couldn’t get out of my door, had to climb over to the passenger seat and helped out, not very lady like, lol. It was insured and I bought another MG ZT. I would have bought the MG ZST for the extra safety features but it was $7,000 more. I didn’t know this but apparently what I did when I saw the tree getting closer is the right thing to do, so for those that didn’t know this, i hope you’re never put in a situation like this, but for future reference, I put both hands on the steering wheel and pushed my back and my head into the seat, keeping my arms stretched out holding the steering wheel. Anyone who’s been in a car accident says it’s like in slow motion but you actually only have a second or split second to make a decision. I sat there and could not believe I was ok, slam into a car then into a tree. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t know how I walked away uninjured. Either someone was watching over me, or there is some sort of safety feature in the MG. Going by this video, the car looked like it was going at high speed and no damage any further than the windscreen.. My brand new car was written off meaning the cost to repair ($23,000!!) was the same price or more or pretty close to what the car cost and what it was insured for.

The problem of CHINESSE MG's are that the STEEL IS VERY BAD it deforms a lot so YES IT ABSORB A LOT OF ENERGY at low speed but the car goes TOTALLED there is no way to repair the frame because steel has chinese quality... soft steel is good at low speeds so it absorb all energy, but then the car goes more expensive to repair than a new one and imagina what happens to that "soft steel" at high speeds... the Dacia Spring that is like a MG another chinese soft steel car had same problem, no hardened steel on the frame, a small crash and totalled get a new car. Get at least a Seat Arona for a bit more money... that is german steel and it has HARDENED steel frame, and hardened pillars, soft steel is only used on the rest of the car, but made all the car of flex steel is... wtf... chinesse cars actually, all, because they dont had much hardened steel actually.

MG are selling like hotcake in Australia, where 4 stars ancap ratings are minimum requirements. Chinese vehicles are actually known for stronger steels to make up for the lacking safety technology, you are full of shit.

Euro ncap remove stars if all new car doesn't have lane departure and autobraking radar systems . It should have got a 4 star really ! . So for a really cheap car it is pretty safe . Ford Mustang got the same rating .

You can compare the Adult Occupant safety ratings only... even a Peugeot 108 scored higher, which doesn't have any of the safety systems and still got 4 stars.

It now has a 5 star rating. I can verify it handles well in a head on collision with another car then slamming into a tree. It WAS an MG ZS 2022. I say “was” because it was a right off, but I bought another one. The damage was in the front and stopped at the windscreen, like there’s a steel barrier or something preventing it from doing even more damage to the car but mostly to the driver. I walked away with no injuries.

Here in Sri lanka there were two "sheared off" incidents - where the roof was basically sliced open after hitting a embankment and in another incident the back of a truck - results are pretty much self explanatory

MG ZS is not a safe car. Seen one accident the car engine Detached and went into the front passenger and driver. 2 people died.

A car full made of soft steel... no hardened steel on the pillars or main frame lol... yes it absorb energy at low speed but the car goes totalled you cant repair it... even with that this car got 3/5 stars only... and at high speeds the soft steel car frame just cant hold... get for a bit more money at least a car with the cabin made of hardened steel frame, china had a problem with steel quality because a lack of hardened steel thanks to the construction boom that happened there.

Not bad for be a chinese vehicle, for be tested with the new Euroncap scorement, its ok but isnt enough

It's an exceptionally cheap car for what it is. £12k RRP, and dealers usually have deals where they knock a substantial portion off. For a car of this size, that's nuts. You want everything clearly, cheap, well built and safe.....

It seems that a LOT of people ranting here, bought this car without knowing: 1. The car is manufactured in China with poor quality standards 2. The car is just not as safe as any competitor. 3. The car attempts to look luxurious but it's just a cheap car.

First of all, this is barely even Chinese. It's an old deadass British heritage brand who was bought by the Chinese (SAIC to be more exact) and given a new life. Second, this car actually did very well for being Chinese.

edgar effendi, like here in the Philippines. Most are comparing MG cars to Toyota (60 years in the Philippines). MG was just launched the last quarter of 2018.Technically, MG is just 6-month old. As if you are comparing a senior citizen to a new born baby.
