That won’t be the reason why it scored 2 stars. The Vauxhall frontera caught fire in 2002 that still got 5 stars

To be fair, the Ypsilon is based on the 2007 Fiat 500, which gained 5 stars back then. 8 years on and that's a very old chassis and technology. If the 500 was crashed today it wouldn't fair much better.

+Hubert Walter My point is that if the Ypsilon had been tested at the same time as the 500, it probably would have gained the same 5* result. Testing it in much, much harsher crash tests than what the 500 faced, isn't really that fair.

+Samuel Brooks I dont htink it would have done, if you read the crash report encap state that the seats inside the vehicle provided marginal protection and that was the issue, not the cars structural integrity or chassis. So the fiat 500 that this shares the chassis with would actually do far better than this because of the protection provided by the seat and seat belts used. This car is also lacking in side air bags, which is why they did no side impact test since it would have damaged the crash test equipment without airbags fitted. Apparently this car also set on fire after one of the crashes but Lancia have promised to fix that. Its also worth noting that this is a 5* 2015 rating which is very very different from a 5* 2007 rating. In the same way that a 5* hotel back in the 1500's probably has nothing on a modern 5* hotel. Euro Ncap changes their tests on a yearly basis to force manufacturers to continue to improve rather than just reaching 5* in 2007 and then never improving again.

Poor Lancia. I would still buy it as it is the most beautiful city car.

The video shows that the car has a good body rigidity, when striking the body receives acceptable damage. With regard to the Fiat 500, the results of the first crash tests have shown that it is calculated on 6 stars at maximum 5 by the euronchap. In recent years, personally at me this organization raises many questions. What's the catch?

I see a very strong car at test. I suppose that took only 2 star about safety systems that aren't standard, like fiat Punto 2017! FCA, must put them to the standard equipment

Thanks for your statement... You are absolutely right.... The actual Lancia Ypsilon came to the German market in 2011, so it really based on a bit prolongued chassis of the Fiat 500 and Panda... When it would have be tested in 2011 it would easily reach four and a half stars when the old rules would be applied. In 2011 nobody reasonable would ask for active assistance Gadgets ....also the voting concerning the security of pedestrians is unfair...the Ypsilons front parts are all relatively soft and the big engine hood is flexible. The bad voting is really injust.

Where was the pole test?

This test is invalid, since the low score is due to the incompetence of euro ncap's staff to properly adjust the passenger's headrest in the full frontal impact test. See for yourselves at 1:27 that the headrest is not properly secured, causing a serious neck injury (most probably death)

A Pillars doesn't deform much or at all(?) 2 stars looks much worse on paper than it will be in real life crash.

none of us agree with the score i see! I pretty sure that the car is much better than all the others citycar. they have been too severe with the ypsilon because to me it looks that the structure resisted very good. i think that FCA should ask to review this test becasue it clearly seems that they wanted to damage Lancia's image and reputation. do not forget that the institute is german and that would not surprise me at all! in one word... that's a huge and f*** bullshit! gents keep on buying this beautiful and great quality car!

If you look at the complete report, you'll see that this car offers poor protection to occupants. The force read on dummies was high, the structure resisted but without preventing damage to the people inside. After all, this y Is based on the 2003 panda, so i'm not surprised. All others city car in 2015, like Mazda 2, Yaris, Clio and so on scored at least 80% in the occupant protection, and the difference is clearly visible from the crash test. Still, FCA keeps selling this shit car, that has no sense in the real market. Indeed, only italian buy it due to lancia reputation. It has few optional as standard, quality isn't that good as they tell (Yaris and Mazda 2 have waaay more), it's not safe, the project is old. It's a nosense car.

The front airbag was an asshole. Look at 1:01. That's why this car got two stars. The front airbag was an asshole to the driver, throwing the head back like a limp noodle and causing high loads on the upper body. February 10, 2017 2:51 am
