Euro Leftist - Double Standards
While standing with the Jewish students at UC Berkeley, a European student approached a display stating Jews were indigenous to the Land of Israel.
It was his first time hearing that Jews has an indigenous claim to the Land, so he at first found the display humorous, but very quickly the double standards were revealed once he showed that he supported all indigenous peoples but found the Jewish connection to the land to be strange.

I was just thinking the same thing. We can agree or disagree, but we can be civil about it. Too many times we want to speak without listening. We use our mouth and not our ears. If we listen, we can actually learn something. This is not just for non-Jews either. I, as a Jew, can listen to other viewpoints and learn things, and come to a better understanding of things that aren’t within my sphere. I think the mentality that some people have, and you definitely see this in politics nowadays, is people don’t want to learn. They have an idea, and they only want people around them that will validate that idea. You can’t grow if you’re not willing to grow. If you’re always right. You have to be able to stand back and say, wow, I didn’t know that, thank you for teaching me that. We can also respectfully disagree on things without it becoming a screaming match.

Great video Rudy, love to hear you talk! Minor constructive criticism about the title if i may: The title sort of depicts that individual you where talking to in a negative way, and while I understand that it serves as both your opinion on his views and an attractive title for the video, I believe that it should be replaced with something more positive or at least neutral. As an Israeli myself, I believe that engaging in conversion with people that have views which differ or oppose our own is very important and sadly not as common as I would like it to be (I think you feel the same way). As such, it seems to me that choosing a title that focuses on negative aspects regarding that individual does not promote our interest of engaging in conversation. I mean, although you had contrasting opinions, that individual listened with patience and asked meaningful questions! Even though he opposes our views, we need more people like him. While I really appreciate Rudy's work and his priority of finding a solution in which both jews and arabs can live toghether, I must say that trying to use Britain as the ultimate scapegoat so that we can avoid talking about islamic colonization (which is actually the real origin of this conflict) is something I'm actually a bit frustrated by. Again, I understand and appreciate the reason for doing so, but it accoplishes nothing positive. Decolonization trough the re-establishment of Israel also means decolonization from the islamic supremacy that has been imposed trough force and literal violence by multiple islamic empires. Again, I want jews and arabs to live together in peace, but pretenting that the historical reality of the last 1.400 years doesn't exist only damages Israel's right to exist while giving un-earned points to the ''palestinian'' one. Just like using the term ''palestinian'' without at least clarifying that this very term was a publicly admitted invention and still is part of an anti-israel propaganda campaing is damaging israel's right to exist while also giving un-earned points to the arabs. I will accept their self-definitions when they will be genuine and not a manipulation of words, distortion of history and part of an attack on our identity.

Palestinians exist, whether or not you like it; Kosovo exist since 2008; Slovenians exist since 1990; Argentina exists since since the mid 19th century ( there were not " argentinians" before that); I can do this all day. What you have to accept is the fact that between the Mediterranean and Jordan there is already a binational state. Granted, part of that population ( Palestinians) lives under a military dictatorship ( Israel). The question is when the 2 million palestinians in the West Bank will be given citizenship in this binational state or autonomy. @@matiasbrachini8741that is not true, you have equal rights to arabs who live as israeli arabs but if you are an arab who does not like to be identified as an Israeli and then decides to identify as Palestinian you basically de-legitimize the existence of Israel. You cant have 2 states in the same country ao they've been given some land which they can live the way they want. They are in fact doing a bad job of having their own leadership and their own thing and so they live in a crime and poverty flooded area. They even have permits to come and work inside Israel if they go through the right way of making the permits and why so? Cause in Israel they make better money. Only time military ruling comes into the picture is when they cross our borders without permission, and now you ask why they need permission? That's not ok, well if you will suffer from constant terror attacks by Palestinian individuals you will as well goven the fact you have the power will limit the opposing aide in order to maintain safety of your own ppl. We also in the military have very strict rules more than probably most if not the whole world before we can open in fire, it has to be someone who has the means to hurt you fatally or very badly, he needs to be identified with mean of hurting you for example someone who looks arab that is in a dangerous distance that does not listen to orders of staying back and shouts "allahu akbar" while holding a knife and constantly getting closer even tho you tell him to stay back or you'll shoot and even when you shoot in the air he proceeded to come for you the you can shoot in order to kill. Also in some specific places if a car goes through a blockade by force and driving forward you can shoot, if someone tries to cross through a fans which he cut through and does not listen to arrest orders and being aggressive you can shoot. Depends on the place, the meaning of a person of what he seems to do and with the potential danger. We never shoot anyone unless he is an actual threat, we also have other means to scare away ppl in order for them to not get badly hurt and to restore peace to a problematic situation. We never kill kids man or women as you seem to accuse, all depends on very very specific situation and all arabs who live in israel live equally to jews by law.

Rudy, thank you for your content, and thank you to the college student willing to have an actual conversation about this sensitive topic. I truly aspire to be as patient and articulate as you are when it comes to these kinds of issues. That being said, I just want to address your belief about modern Greeks: the continuity of Greek civilization and culture has been an ongoing prominent feature of the region for thousands of years. While there have been various historical events, migrations, and influences that have shaped the population over time (as is the case pretty much everywhere), there is a strong cultural and genetic continuity between the ancient and modern Greeks. And while our language has evolved since the time of Plato and Sophocles, we use the same alphabet and many of the same words to this day. We even still honor our pagan past! More specifically, our language and DNA is most closely related to the Mycenean Greeks. Researchers have analyzed ancient DNA from archaeological remains associated with the Mycenaean civilization and compared it to the DNA of contemporary Greek populations. These studies have found genetic similarities, indicating that there has been a significant degree of continuity in the population of the region over the millennia. Hope I was able to provide some insight, as you have done for me on Jewish culture and history!
A tendency among a lot of left-wing people...decide who seems less powerful and decide that's automatically the correct side. Sometimes that can useful, but for this deeply entrenched conflict with so many layers of history, it's just not that simple. And whether or not you agree with the actions of Israel, that wouldn't negate how legitimate the claim to the land is.
Is a very hard job what you doing !so much ignorance out there !Thank you for educating people !
"The Beni Israel of India and the Lost Tribes of Israel" is a book written by Benjamin Salzedo in 1921. The book discusses the author's belief that the Bene Israel, a Jewish community from India, were descended from the lost tribe of Israel. Salzedo also claims to have discovered a Jewish community in the West African kingdom of Dahomey (now known as Benin), which he believed was also descended from the lost tribe of Dan. Salzedo's book received some attention at the time of its publication, but its claims were largely discredited by scholars and experts in the field. Today, the idea that the Bene Israel or any other community are descended from the lost tribes of Israel is generally regarded as a myth or a matter of religious belief rather than a historical fact. The Bene Israel community themselves have a tradition that they are descended from Jews who fled from persecution in Galilee in the 2nd century BCE and arrived on the western coast of India, where they were welcomed by the local Hindu community. The Bene Israel maintained their Jewish identity and religious practices over the centuries, but there is no historical evidence to support the idea that they are descended from a lost tribe of Israel. Dahomey Jews: The Dahomey Jews, also known as the Bnai Israel of Dahomey, were a small community of Jewish people who lived in what is now the country of Benin in West Africa. The exact origins of the Dahomey Jews are unclear, but it is believed that they may have been descended from Sephardic Jewish traders who arrived in the area in the 17th century. The community may also have included converts to Judaism. The Dahomey Jews were known for practicing a unique form of Judaism that blended Jewish traditions with local African customs. For example, they incorporated elements of vodun (a West African religion) into their observances, and some members of the community also practiced polygamy. The community thrived in the 19th century under the protection of King Gezo of Dahomey, who allowed them to practice their religion freely and even granted them their own land. However, the community began to decline in the early 20th century as members emigrated to other parts of Africa and to Israel. Today, there are believed to be only a few remaining descendants of the Dahomey Jews in Benin, and the community is considered to be extinct. However, efforts have been made to preserve their history and culture, including through the publication of a book titled "The Last Jews of Dahomey" by historian Robin Cohen. The physical appearance of the Dahomey Jews, also known as the Toe or Gbe Jews, is not well documented, and there is limited information available about their physical characteristics. The Dahomey Jews were a small community of Jews who lived in what is now modern-day Benin, in West Africa. Some scholars suggest that they may have been descendants of Jews who migrated from North Africa or the Middle East, while others suggest that they may have been indigenous to the region. It is also possible that they were a mix of different ethnic groups. There are some descriptions of the Dahomey Jews from historical records, which suggest that they may have shared some physical characteristics with other West African ethnic groups. For example, some reports describe them as having dark skin and tightly coiled hair, which are common physical traits of many West Africans. However, it is important to note that physical appearance is a complex and multifaceted aspect of human identity, and that there is a great deal of genetic diversity within and between different ethnic groups. Therefore, it is not accurate to make assumptions about the appearance of an entire group of people based on limited information or historical records.

But you, you are truly a master of your craft, your historical knowledge and your logical capacity are inspiring. at 6:30 he starts to talk about "Palestinians" you did not come into a resolution and agreement about the fact that the Jews are indeginous to the land. If he agrees that (after you made it perfectly clear), and he agrees that other similar cases have a right for self-determination to their lands (Tibetans for example) then it would be illogical of him to talk about the Palestinians since (in the false narrative where they were there for thousands of years) they are considered colonizers to the land. He should of been exposed for the hypocrisy.

I love how he vaunts the Ottoman independent zones as though the pan arabism and Islamism weren't in large part, reactionary movements to Ottoman rule, but somehow the "peace" that prevailed in what the Ottomans called Syria was more idyllic than anywhere else.
@oremfrien
Жыл бұрын
Those movements were reactions to the last decade of Ottoman Rule when the Committee of Union and Progress began to end the semi-autonomy that existed in the Middle Eastern provinces and began to advocate for a centralization and Turkification that local potentates resisted. However, the Arab World had been under Ottoman occupation for over 350 years before that and the longevity of that autonomous rule (especially in Mount Lebanon) is what a lot of people refer to when they talk about it being better under the Ottomans. Spoiler alert, it was not idyllic local autonomy; it just happened to be a bunch of feuding princes fighting wars all of the time with the occasional intervention of an Ottoman governor or two to prevent full-scale massacres. A good parallel would be the feuding of the modern Arab states today; it just took place between city-states as opposed to entire nations.
Amazing conversation, he asked good questions too.

He needs to read History of Zionism by Walter Lacquer. There was a whole infrastructure of port, health system, Hebrew language revival, agricultural development, electricity, land reclamation like in Hula swamp in north- all activity by Jews before 1948. "I just don't understand....". It's clear he came with a strong agenda that "Jews are European colonialists" and was unwilling to let go, even in face of multiple explanations proving him wrong. Lots of respect, though, to them both, that the discussion was calm and respectful. We need more of that!
It's the same argument for an hour. It's like plugging in different parameters into a program and it always comes back with an error, the program is written to just return an error
Absolutely great
sheesh, he kept on asking the same question, and in the same exact way as well. the guy just decided to block his mind and not accept the explanation. Kudos to Rudy for the inhuman patience.
God bless your patience Rudy.. this guy asking the same thing for the 5th time after every time getting a detailed answer that he just didn't like would have pissed me off by that point.
We need more civil discussions like this. Why are so many people so easily triggered and allow their emotions to control how they express themselves? This was a pleasantly civil debate with a leftist. Hope this is a growing trend.
The Jewish people are *indigenous* to Judea - Land of Israel. 🕎🙌 After over 2 millennia of forced exile, persecution, and genocide, the *(re)establishment* of *Jewish sovereignty* in our *ancestral homeland* is a remarkable story of *national liberation.* Jewish claims to the land are far more than biblical accounts. Our *religion, language, culture, holidays, rituals, liturgy, history,* and even the words Jew and Jewish are all inseparable from *historical Judea* and our collective longing to *return to the Land of Israel.* The land of Israel is where Jews became *a people* and the *oldest monotheistic faith.* It is where Jews *achieved sovereignty* before losing it and regaining it several times until much of the *indigenous Jewish population* was either killed or forced into exile following the *Roman Empire’s* brutal suppression of the heroic *Jewish revolt* in the second century of the Common Era. Though the Romans subsequently *renamed the land* Syria Palaestina, the Jewish people *never left* our homeland physically or spiritually. *Archaeological evidence* of Jewish life can be found in more than *30,000 sites* in Israel with antiquities dating back centuries. Even when we were massacred and persecuted by Christian Crusaders, Arab and Ottoman *invaders,* the British-led Jordanian Arab Legion, or more recently Hamas suicide bombers and rockets, our attachment *never* wavered. It is in this same land where Jews miraculously *revitalized* the Hebrew language, *rebuilt* the institutions necessary for independence, *re-engaged* in rituals that are uniquely observed in the land of Israel, *redeveloped* the land and the economy so that by several magnitudes the Jewish and non-Jewish populations grew, and offered refuge not just to the remnant which survived the Holocaust, but also millions of Jews fleeing persecution from the Muslim Middle East, Ethiopia, and the former Soviet Union. Today, Israel is a *rich tapestry of diverse citizens,* including over half of Jewish Israelis who identify as Jews of color and 20% of whom are Arab citizens. *Peace Not Hate!* 🇮🇱💙
The young American keeps saying he doesn't think Jews should say they have a right to theland... but Palestinians say the same thing; Yet he hasn't been arguing against when the Palestinians say it; o if BOTH are saying it, EITHER BOTH DO HAVE A RIGHT to the land, or one group in fact has MORE of a right to the land. Another point one needs to remember is that atthe end of the Orroman Empire, NOBODY had an official "right " to the land It had been Ottoman for 700 years, before that several various empires had taken control, but in 1948 there was no single group who had a right to it EXCEPT The British, because the Ottomans officially left the land to the league of Nations which made it a British Mandate. The British eventually gave 3/4 to the Arabs to form the Hashemite kingdon of Jordan,.. and the UN gave the rest to TWO groups, one Arab and one Jewish - to form their own soveriegn states. The Jews accepted, and the Arabs refused . And immediaitely started a war with the Jews to "push them into the sea"; And LOST the war. So from that point in time, since they had refused thier own state and then lost the war they bagan, whatever the israelis controlled after the war is generally THEIRS. That Israel tried for decades to find common ground to re-ignite thepossibility of a Palestinian State shows a decency and patience and sense of Justice on their part which is phenomenal. But again, typically, the Arabs refused every attempt as they NEVER wanted a two-state solution, they always opted for a one state solution ONLY for the Arabs and NOTHING as a sovereign state for the Jews. Which is hardly fair of tehm in any sense of teh word. THAT is all simply HISTORICAL FACT. These Arabs - who began calling themselves "Palestinians" after 1967 for political gain- in fact probably lost all claim to teh land by losing three wars against Israel... wars that tehy themsleves had initiated. NOrmally speaking, when a group of people LOSE a war -they also lose claim to the land. Generally speaking, if there are refugees, they move to another country and make a new life for themselves and that is the end of it. Buit 75 years after losing three wars in which tehy tried genocidally to "drive teh Jews into teh sea" - they STILL claim to have the right to define terms to teh winner! They still wave their old housekeys insisting on a claim to teh land and teh houses lost 75 years ago; And their childre ad grandchildren still ALL claim to be refugees, and also even get specifi aid from the UN and UNBWRA - somehting no other refugee group ever has had; My grandparents fled Russia because of the pogroms in the early 20's. Do they still brandish keys and insist on a right of return? No! They settled in Canada, but are their grandchildren and great grandchildren considered as refugees too? NO! ONLY the Palestinians can ask for "proportionality" and also insist on (and get!) special treatment.
Very articulate. I’m very Impressed.
What a peaceful exchange of ideas. It can be done.
That was fantastic.
So my mom is Jewish and my Dad is North Sámi, so I am indigenous on both sides of my family to two different pieces of land. This man sounds Scandinavian, most likely Swedish and his people are currently oppressing and have been oppressing the Sámi and it’s funny that that’s his argument given what his people are currently doing. So of course he wants to define indigenous people out of existence cause then his people aren’t in the wrong.

You aren't oppressed. You also aren't indigenous to the land if we're going off who got there first because the Swedes and Norwegians were there first

@@friedrichbaeker, except no, and yes you did, look up the history of it, Nomad Schools with abuse, Green colonialism on our land(wind turbines), Discrimination in work and education, your governments making it illegal to use our language, etc, etc etc. No matter how you want to deny it doesn't change the fact that the UNDRIP recognizes and supports us in the fight for self-determination on our land. Fuck the Swedes, Norwegians, and Finnish.

@@negationf6973 Havent heard of another, feels weird thought, cause I washed raised only by my mom after my Dad died when I was young. I have spent most of my adult life trying to learn and connect more with my Dads side and people.

@@blacksheepscrook8850 I see. Sorry to hear about your father. Best of luck on your continuing journey to learn and connection more with your Dad's people. But its also cool that you're Jewish, and know that culture, too.
