I know it is a contentious topic, but the AI always seems so player focused. I mean Kaffa getting crushed by Ottomans? Realistic. But no-one, absolutely no-one attacking the Ottomans when they have their entire 61k army on the edge of the known world, only have 6k manpower and currently in a war with a major power? Also loved the intro 😍

It is one of the most absurd things in the entire game. Century old enemies of diffrent cultures and religions and what not will ally eachother and all sorts of dumbshit. I really hope they fix this for EU5 because its frankly so annoying it often takes me a year to get back to the game after a few weeks of playing. The same with rebels. Thats an even more absurd mechanic.

@@ymer234 but it feels super good when you do it to the AI. Inno, Espionage, Offensive, Divine. With 100 tradition and 100 AP, you have 85% siege ability. 105% with a full spy network😂😂😂 Did this as Florence => Italy => Rome. Had endless manpower for Great Projects and rebels😄

@@therealsteelchill quick flip to theocracy (tier 6 gov reform), then you take 1 idea to lock the group and flip back to republic or monarchy. Will cost you a combined 6 stab, but if you stack stab cost reduction a bit it’s more than worth it

Yeah this strategy was destined to fail, I don't see how you could have an extensive border with the Ottomans without the military power to deter them from attacking..

That Ottomans idea set is super op. You get Ae reduction siege ability super cheap tech great generals and more! I've used it as the Ottoman's to great effect

It was a good attempt red hawk, especially with the opening moves. Bravo! However I feel like with Kaffa's + 2 tolerance of heathens in its traditions, converting to Sunni via rebels would be the best move. The Dhimmi estate would help stabilise your Coptic lands while also giving you a tech reduction and an increase in tax and manpower from their privileges and influence in those lands. The burghers give an additional +2 tolerance of heathens and heretics from their privilege so you would be very stable. It would also allow you to ally the Ottomans get their Jannisairy merc company in Harar and beat up the Mams and Ajuraan and then snake down the coast to get the additional gold in Mutapa and Kilwa along with more lands suitable for Dhimmi buffs. Alternatively, there are also Shia provinces nearby in Yemen which you could use in combination with religious ideas to get jihad CB on heretics but Sunni i think is better for stability. This would be a very interesting run to watch if you went for the achievement as its still a challenge. Many people overlook stacking tolerance because its capped at +3 but there are also good gov reforms for dhimmi administration. Stacking tolerance will allow you to mitigate the unrest from war exhaustion.

If you want to know about how brutal (i.e. good) Inno-Off-Esp is as a package check out Budget Monk. In short, your siege ability is like a hot knife through room temperature butter, not to mention Op generals, less AE, faster tech, etc. It is super powerful.

One of the things I like about your videos is how you do the zoom changes to shift perspective; it makes a game like this much easier to watch. But, man, it gets weird when you're doing it with the green screen face cam... especially when you're half on the screen.

So I watched this and had to start a run. I took expansion first because of strong Ethiopia and used the wating time to colonize and consolidate. I allied Adal after cleaning up my neighbours and allied the other nearest Coptics immediately; Alodia and Medhri Bari. Did it patiently, was just opportunistic with Ethiopia, after they annexed their last vassal they couldn't afford a large army anymore and my allies joined the offensive war after building favors. Swapped allies here and there but kept the 2 Coptics. It's 1536 now - 1 year after this at 15:39 and everything up to Makuria is converted to Coptic and everything down to Pate and I own everything except 2-3 provinces on the Horn of Africa... I've taken 2 provinces of Yao after colonizing westward... and colonized down past Malindi... Mahra or what they are called is my only non Coptic ally and I fed them some Mamluk territory, who I just finished a war with. They had almost all of Arabia but got beaten up by a ridicolous OP Ottomans as always who declares on the entire world and never get 1 single rebel. Ottomans are neutral at +50 relations, I'm rivaled by Mamluks and a big Ajam who probably will die now that QQ is gone... I have a slightly smaller army than you but I warred continuously after I could DoW Ethiopia and spend money on other stuff right now. My coptic allies are great buffers towards the Nile and I have all the time in the world to expand into _all_ of Africa. Techs are 10 and 11 and the country is stable... Have around 35 force limit I guess too. I'm not present in Arabia I just recently fabricated on Mecca/those coastals and took one coastal further up but not adjacent through the sea to Ottoman or on their permaclaims. Ottomans have just under 1500 dev in 1536. I'm just gonna stay away from them and be opportunistic. I'm building up economy for as long as they haven't bashed into my "buffers" yet or show hostility, then I will make a "tower trap" in case they try and I'll have an army big enough to not really need mercs. Only thing that's gonna suck is waiting for colonialism. Good luck to anyone else... if you're about here yourself, remember you have *300 YEARS* to go... and the last 50-100 you are able to take as much land as the previous 300. Edit: I'm at around 450 dev I think? And "Tower trap" means making them tank attrition, in several layers, not having 1 fort near the strait. They'll just go around anyways. I mean I will have a fort there but not gonna rely on winning through luring them in the back door, I don't want to have an army not near the front when it's not clear

coincidentally i just got pick your poison achievement as kaffa. the story goes as this: ally as many guys as u can to take on ethiopia. then you get some gold, snowball, go south, get some more gold and zanzibar trade, go west, get mali gold, make that $$$, and kill ottomans. goods produced in ideas really came in clutch

i did another nation in the region, but should work for Kaffa as well: after ethiopia, eat horn of africa, than with exploraration you can get in range to start eating india as their trade can be channeled to you

Can't wait until you play K'iche my favorite country in EU4, please when you play it don't call in quiche, it's two separate syllables ki and che. Mayan history doesn't get enough love. If possible when you play them set up a colony in Africa, my favorite Mayan god is Chaj Mol the rain god, and I would love to see some blood sacrifices bless the rains down in Africa.

I understand it because rebels are very annoying, but it doesn't really do anything to make you stronger either, so it's not that good. Your early idea groups should be powering you up, and by the time a flex pick into humanist makes sense, you should be so strong that rebels aren't relevant anymore.

I feel like whenever he plays anywhere where the ottomans could be a problem they just ruin his campaign.

I've played Kamilaroi before and they can easily unite Australia with ideas. But unfortunately, it's Australia, so why not put them in Austria instead?

If you had a reserve save, it might be interesting to peace out haasa in that ottoman war, then offer Ottobro peace for whatever they wanted. Get a nice long truce, then wait for them to go in against the mamluks and switch gears and go after the mamluks instead. Or wait for ottomans to go in against mamluks and go after the ottomans in that war? I think you just have to assume you are fighting the ottomans eventually, and build your game for that. Maybe if you were going to try again, not worry about religion, or even try to convert to sunni, so that you can ally the ottobros as you snake north.

You seriously need to work on your moustache if you're planning to keep it. It's as the divided as the Two Sicilies, on both sides.

Ottomans literally end campaigns, had the best start as the English due to the burgundian inheritance then the Dutch rebelled and the ottomans joined for whatever reason and got military access to literally cross all of Europe to wallionia to fight a war and ally the Dutch. Then Spain declared war on my PU France. I show no mercy to ottomans whenever I can.

Good Idea would be never border ottomans at all. Attack Timurids from mazandaran and Horde lands go to Caffa with a big snake move.

I go for the yearly army tradition over the manpower in 2nd gov reforms, is manpower better. Tried playing Killwa, wholly annoyed by rebels, rebels who beat up my armies somehow. I hate the ottomans so much.

Depends on the country and context. Manpower is the more flexible pick since you can pretty much always count on it being useful. Tradition can be difficult to translate into power unless you're maximizing friendly fort bonus (can be expensive) and winning sieges often already (using up manpower), otherwise it bleeds out pretty fast still.

Day #2 asking Red Hawk to release an Austrian Guide for 1.34.

Anyone else think Otto in 1.34 is even more powerful than previously? Just about every campaign I have gets derailed once Otto decides to expand into my region at the minute. Really frustrating.

I always thought they needed a nerf, even with their history, and now it's even worse. Yes I agree. I started my own Kaffa campaign after watching this video and they have 1500 dev in 1536 and not a single point of unrest. I don't get it. One of their "waves" had diplomacy say they accrue over 50 infamy THREE TIMES in Europe and THREE TIMES in the east just 1-2 with 40+ instead - not a SINGLE coalition. It is like this every single effing campaign. I start as Kaffa now, and AGAIN I have to be the one to "save the world" against them at some point and I'm just so tired of fighting exactly _them_ everytime. Why can't the other AI's do something? Coalitions should be based on "if it can work" and "if it's needed" somehow, instead of just relations. Is the coalition mechanic so useless just because hyper agressive impatient players were complaining or something?= I did Big Blue Blob into WC without a single coalition form against me. Only in the Lotharingia one did I have 2 coaltions, trying to make it with "the" Marie instead of female heir event.

Red Hawk is like Jesus of EU4. He is taking all the pain, so we do not have to. 🙏

This achievement isn't actually that hard. It's fairly easy to ally Otto (you can convert to Islam if you have to), steal maps (or get maps from Otto), no CB Theodoro, Trebizond or Chandar (whichever is alive and easy to take) to vassal them, have your vassal get a claim on Cafa (or no CB Genoa), give the province to whoever you made a vassal, dev it.

Harer has a Muslim great project that spawns all institutions. Just improve it to level 1. Flip muslim and prosper!
