The Supreme Court heard arguments today on former President Donald Trump’s claim of presidential immunity. Former Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Catherine Christian, former prosecutor Charles Coleman and Princeton University professor Eddie Glaude join Ana Cabrera and José Díaz-Balart to share their takeaways from the hearings.

  • @RSEFX
    @RSEFX9 күн бұрын

    I thought this should have been posed as a question of unlimited power instead of unlimited immunity, as the former is the outcome of the latter. This is what we are concerned about, ie the ability of the president to do ANYTHING HE WANTS, regardless of legality , morality and/or logic. Protections against being frivolously or zealously prosecuted as well as zealously/politically protected have long been the work assignments of the Senate and the House...and it has worked for about 250 years without major problems. We should be far less fearful of what danger can befall a president ---one single individual, after all----if he is judged to be guilty of a crime, than a single individual man like a president with unlimited powers could do to millions of people if he so decided. Think the Stalins and Hitlers of history and how they affected (and destroyed) the lives of multi-millions,vs. how little their deaths affected those millions.

    The Supreme Court decision should be 9-0 in favor of no immunity if the Justices adhere to the constitution. If Nixon was immune, he wouldn't have needed to be pardoned. Clause 7 states, "Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law." Any judge who dissents, needs to be impeached and removed for failing to uphold their oath of office.

    The 2016 and 2024 US presidential elections have the same motto: "The objective is to prevent the election of an opposing candidate as much as possible. The goal is to humiliate the opponent as much as possible to achieve the objective." In 2016, Donald Trump did not hesitate to say things that would humiliate his opponents as long as he could win the election. In 2024, Donald Trump's political opponents would be willing to do and say anything that would humiliate him to win the election. It seems that our society's moral compass has been significantly impacted by the court's decisions in 1948 and 1963, which banned the recitation of Jesus' teachings in schools. These teachings included instructions on how to treat God and our fellow human beings, as detailed in Matthew 7:12 and Matthew 22:37-39. As we drift further away from these teachings, we become more like countries such as Russia, China, and North Korea, where political opponents are often assassinated. It is, therefore, not surprising that some members of the US Congress would support a bill that would make it easier to assassinate a former President, such as President Trump. The best solution to this problem is not to vote for either Republicans or Democrats. Instead, we should reintroduce Jesus' teachings on how to treat God and our fellow human beings in our schools.
