There was a KZreadr who just had her account terminated a few months back for putting her book in the wrong category for a second time. Everyone, please update your categories like Paul recommends.

@@benicio1967 The rules haven’t changed. Amazon is just starting to crack drown on things like the wrong category and keyword stuffing. The KZreadr in my example made the mistake twice on the same book in under 3 months.

Yes, I like the category change. It means I won’t find a coloring book inside the small engine repair category and ranked as Bestseller!

I had been asking KDP to update my categories to ten niches / genres for several months before they made the change to three choices. The month / date they made that switch to allowing my categories of three versus two - my sales dropped from around $400 monthly to under $150 a month - June and July 2023 - not sure why that sudden drop but I believe it’s related to the category changes.

There are suitable categories if you go through the list.

New to KDP and have learnt a lot from your videos with the new categories where would you list Journal and Diaries, Planners etc? I know they aren't classed as books.

Watch out for ghost catagories and duplicates.

This is extremely intuitive. Choosing categories is very self explanatory. Anyone who can read can learn how to choose the right category.

There is no limit imposed by KDP.

No, I don't do that.

So here’s a question. I started and tried this whole KDP deal. Did about 20-25 books over past 2 months. Some were coloring books rest were kids short stories. One book I did short stories has sold about 27 copies in a few weeks. Now that being said other stuff I did sold none or a copy here and there. I made no money on anything. By the time Amazon took their money for printing and royalties, then cost of advertising. I made nothing. I’m beginning to think this KDP is a joke or maybe Amazon is putting these videos out to get people lured in. I mean who is gaining from this the most? Amazon is, they invest nothing into this. The people working for free being told hey you can make money if you try hard enough. It’s an endless cycle of people making books that don’t sell unless they pay to advertise. Then in end they get nothing for their work and Amazon gets it all. I mean why would people who been successful be online offering advice to competitors on how to do the work etc? It’s like a gold miner hitting the jackpot and running to town telling all the people where the gold is. Just don’t happen. So either Amazon is putting it out there because it’s a goldmine for them to lure people in or the people making these videos are getting something in return. Since making no money on KDP they sell how to’s or make money another way. Idk just seems weird. Anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

I don't know how often the software updates the data.

So for a journal or logbook depending on the type being made would it be under same category and if so which one. New to kdp and kinda of lost.

Paul, I have emailed KDP and I have tried to figure this problem out on my own. Publisher Rocket cant answer this either. When I look at a books Listed Categories and I try to switch my book over to those come of those same categories I don't have access to all of the categories Amazon lists. I see books listed under "Arts & Photography/Dawning/Coloring Books for Grown ups/Fantasy - etc." I can only get to "Arts & Photography/Drawing/General or a few other minor categories like pen and ink, etc. I cannot list my books in the same areas indicated by either Amazon or Publisher Rocket ? Any and all information you can provide would be extremely helpful. Amazons answer was that the problem had to do with age. that detirmins which categories can be selected. But I have changed age ranges and see no change in categories. I am a bit hesitant to ask Amazon many questions because I dont want my account getting banned.

I've only been on KDP for about a week so I automatically had three categories, really nice. A question about "random" categories. I make a lot of composition books and I usually pick two categories that are education and teaching based but then I like to pick something close to the theme of the cover, Ex: Sunflower cover I will pick Garden Design because of the flowers. Could that get me terminated?

Keywords in the title, subtitle and 7 keyword boxes can help get your books seen.

They KDP backend categories still dont represent the store categories a 100%...

i saw a book listed under "Books›Stationery, Journals & Notebooks›Address Books" - but when i went to put my book in the same category, i couldn't find the category.

YOu would need to delete the template file from the layer in the software you're using to create your cover.

If you want to get sales or list it in the US then I would advise making sure all the text, titles etc. is in English.
