I don't know what's crazier. The fact that I decided to hard commit learning video editing and simply stumbled on this by YT alg. or the fact that I'm about to really ball on a budget with all this wealth of knowledge. Thank you very much for this. 🙏🙏

Got myself a Canon SL3 and DJI Mini a couple years ago mainly for car meets I'd go to. I barely used the stuff but not that I'm getting back into filmmaking and photography I'm glad I have them. Beginner stuff but better than nothing ig. I also use my S22 ultra and got a Zhiyun Smooth 5S for it to get some good videos using my phone as well! I'm one that like to buy cool gear and gadgets without really LEARNING how best to use them so they end up collecting dust but after watching a TON of your videos, it makes me really want to dust them off and get to filming and learning!

Now i have about 2k coins and figured out i always liked filming stuff, family videos, school trips..i was always holding the camera up and loved doing it. I think imma give it a try. This is truly a perfect video, shows the "cheap" and then the upgrade too, throws in the names and brands we need to know, the essential gear.. its all there. Thanks a lot!

One thing I noticed here is that lots of people say "go for Da Vinci Resolve". I personally chose adobe cloud due to the fact that I'm also a photographer and I use photoshop, lightroom, etc. So 20€/month is not that big of a deal for the adobe cloud considering you get a lot of programs. If you are ACTUALLY using them, I would say it's definitely worth the money. AS WELL as tomorrow's Filmmaker's school. Not only you save a shitton of money just from their discounts, but you get a crazy amount of knowledge. Absolutely worth it.

One of the best videos I’ve watched for someone considering what to buy on a low budget. For a while I’ve enjoyed taking photographs as a hobby and have decided I would like to try out some videography. I own a Canon 550D (aka Rebel T2i if sold in the Americas) along with some Canon lenses (Canon 50mm 1:8, Tamron 18mm - 270mm and a Canon zoom 10mm-18mm) so very encouraging to listen to your advice on getting started with what you have. I will be looking to source some of the other equipment detailed and will take a look at the courses you are offering once I’m set up. I’m lucky enough to own a iPad Pro and wondered what your views are on purchasing Luma Pro as a video editor app as a value for money one time purchase at £29.99?

It requires a ton of gain to get useful levels out of and the H4N pro dosent deliver Its a good field recorder in other respects like its set of stereo mics. You might be able to get away with the NTG2 and a trong preamp or the H4n pro with a super sensitive mic but Id save yourself the trouble and skip over both. If you don't have either of these I'd strongly suggest researching the sensitivity of your mic and the strngth of the preamp before you buy them in conjunction.

I started back in the day of tape. and even before that had a Amiga in our home and read the monthly rags, as a child, about how the Amiga was being used in broadcast video work... But sunk my teeth in in the era of Digital tape. SD video on Hi8 and firewire area.. As the industry and tech progressed, Now I'm ready to jump from 4k to 6k acquisition.. But yes, today march of 2023 everything stated here is correct. You literally can start with a decode old used DSLR or mirrorless camera that's a couple hundred bucks. The three things to nail down are getting footage, getting good audio, and controlled lighting. And finally and not less important than the other 3, Editing and "fixing" footage.. color correcting, composting etc. Don't worry about 4k, 6k etc , The broadcast tv standard is 1080i still. Most of it is knowing how to get the result your client wants and understanding what the client wants. You may like that film look etc.. but they may be looking for the ultrasharp video "everything in focus" "gopro/cellphone/ look.. learn how to do it all

Great overview and helpful for those starting out. Your courses are great! Only one question I have is when trying to keep costs low why did you suggest Premiere? I used Premiere Pro for over 15 years, going through all their updates (as well as monthly subscription costs going up) and increasingly computer-intensive processing only to realize there was a better alternative, and it is free. I switched to DaVinci Resolve about three years ago and in my opinion a much better editor. And did I say free? I would suggest considering Resolve as an alternative. Again, great help in your video and Premiere is a great choice too.

I'll second that! DaVinci resolve is fantastic, to work in. The free version is missing about 5% of the features that come with the paid version. It will not hurt you to give it a try. :)

that's what I was thinking. Davinci Resolve is used by pros and FREE. Why would he recommend Premiere that costs beginners a lot of money

He did say in the video that it’s “the best editor we have used so far”. He later went on to suggest FCPX which is a one time payment thing and DaVinci Resolve, both the paid and free version. I’ve been using Premiere for about 5 years now and I recently started dabbling in DaVinci Resolve. It’s been an uphill battle for me as I’m still not used to the interface.

@@blaklytstudios yes, that is a fair point. but if they were recommending a list of what beginners should be using, shouldn't they give a balanced and objective recommendation instead of what "they have used"? My point is, premiere pro costs a lot of money to some... and even without debating which app is best, paying for a subscription can be a huge commitment for beginners that are clueless about the potential of the app. I'd rather just use an iMovie and try to master it first than paying for something I don't even know what I'm getting into... I'm saying this because I was a beginner a few years back and I never get premiere because of the price wall itself. Later found out there's another app called DR17, ended up learning editing from only using the cutting tool to using fusion and color grading. Only now that I'm actually considering paying for the pro version :) I hope it makes sense...

For how long is the Premiere Pro discount valid after purchasing this course? Like can I get the Premiere Pro licence a year or two after I sign up for the course, once I know I need or can afford a paid licence?

start playing this video and you get a finely lit scene as for a romantic dinner conversation. then a "doots doots" background techno music starts playing and the presenter begins shouting at you as if he was commenting red socks vs yankees footbal match. what a filmmaking style. on the positive side, everyone is doing it this way nowadays.
