ESSEC MiM Curriculum | Master in Management at ESSEC Business School | Study in France

Hello and Welcome back to the channels guys 😀
If you're new here, my name is Arif and in this video, I try to somewhat explain how flexible the ESSEC MiM Curriculum is.
There are 3 main facets of the ESSEC MiM Curriculum
📚 Academic Curriculum - The course starts with 7 Refresher courses that one has to validate by the end of the first trimester and after that, you can begin choosing your own courses. There are 10 mandatory courses that one has to take and you can select your electives from around 100s of elective options present
🌎 International Experience - In order to graduate, one has to validate at least 6 months of International experience. This can be done by studying at a different ESSEC Campus or going for an academic exchange at a partner school. There are options of double degrees as well with some schools around the globe. For students entering through international admissions, this criterion however is pre-validated.
🧳 Professional Experience - In order to graduate, one has to validate at least 12 months of Professional Experience. This can be done through Internships, Apprenticeships, Entrepreneurship, and Volunteer experiences. People who have prior work experience can get that validated towards this requirement.

    Hello, tbh one of the most helpful videos out there. Thanks for making such great content. I have one question... Like you, most of the students enrolled in the MiM courses, have approximately 12 months of full-time work experience. How can we compete with that as freshers, we have some interning experiences and our GMAT score ???

  • @iArifAhmad

    @iArifAhmad

    3 жыл бұрын

    People need not necessarily have experience. MiM is more focused towards fresh graduates so if you have some experience you'll have a little bit of edge only. High GMAT score does help but won't be the deciding factor

  • @iArifAhmad

    Hey Nick, as I explained in the video. The apprenticeship program is a work-study program so you work and study at the same time. If you follow a 6 month cycle. You will work for 6 months then study for 6 months so according to a 2 year contract, at the end you would have worked for 1 year and studied at ESSEC or elsewhere for a year.

    Hi Shaurya, since I'm enrolled in MIM, I can only give you an answer from that perspective. In my opinion, for us international students it's better to choose MiM to allow us enough time and opportunities to understand where we want to be. I have friends in my batch who just like you are engineers and want to switch to finance and have taken MiM over MSc Finance. Coming to the question of employment in the UK or the US, I mean it all depends on your profile, your connections, the opportunities you grab. But if that's the goal why study in France. Why not study in that country itself?

  • @iArifAhmad

    @iArifAhmad

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, it is but nobody, in general, keeps it that hectic and usually stretches their MiM duration to 3 years if they are coming as freshers with 0 experience. People who come with some work experience validate that and then are somewhat free to choose when they want to intern and study etc. Also, if you have done a summer internship during your 3rd or 4th year of bachelor, you can submit that as well towards the validation of the 12-month work experience, and depending upon the type of work you did, it can be approved/disapproved.

  • @iArifAhmad

    @iArifAhmad

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello Violina, the duration of the MiM depends upon how many courses you take. To simply associate a course with credit, for now, know that 1 course = 1 credit and in 1 trimester you can only take a maximum of 8 courses (which usually is too much and majority of us take 5-6). Now in order to graduate, you have to complete 3 criterions ( mentioned at 1:20 ) and if you do have prior work experience and you validate it then from the Academic curriculum perspective you have to complete 25 courses and so it is your choice to select the duration of your MiM. The beauty of ESSEC is the flexibility of the curriculum and not taking full advantage of it and just thinking about graduating as soon as you can would be a waste of opportunity in my opinion. You should definitely aim for your MiM to be at least 2 years.

    1. Yes, you have to live in France for 1 year before you can start an apprenticeship so it's basically integrated into the 2nd year of the MiM duration. Knowledge of French depends on the kind of role you get. Some roles do require quite a bit of French and some roles are even in English so it depends. 2. No you can't, the first application cycle starts in January ( i.e your 2nd trimester / T2 ) and that is for an exchange in the first trimester of your 2nd year here

    Hey Arif, is recommended to go for Essec MIM if you’d want to work in france? Most of the linkedIn profiles that I see come back to india after graduation and work in india.while in case of USA you can easily find what people are actually doing in USA. Curriculum of MIM courses is great but is the motivation for doing a MIM for indians should be just getting international exposure ?

  • @iArifAhmad

    @iArifAhmad

    3 жыл бұрын

    There is no min requirement as such to take up a course so for an entire year ( 3 trimesters ), you can take 0 courses which in turn will become your gap year but apart from that as such there is no official thing as gap year. You can take up internships and work for a whole year and call it a gap year as well so everything is totally up to you. Although, like I mentioned about not taking any courses for consecutive 3 trimesters, you still would have to pay the administrative fees ~ 2000€

    So a person with 0 Work Ex can't join?

  • @iArifAhmad

    @iArifAhmad

    3 жыл бұрын

    I was talking about the graduation requirement at ESSEC, so a person with 0 work ex cannot graduate from ESSEC. He/She has to work for at least 12 months before they can be eligible to graduate. If you have prior experience, you can use that to validate it towards this 12 month. It can be a full-time role or a 2-3 month internship in between your bachelor years (depends on the kind of work). So, yes you can join with 0 work ex, in fact half of the batch is comprised of freshers but you cannot graduate from ESSEC with 0 work ex. You have to validate the 12 months.

    It depends upon the type of work. After you come here, you prepare an application regarding the work you want to validate and the respective team goes through it and if it satisfies certain conditions then it is used towards the validation of 12 months of professional experience. But again let me be clear, this is in order to graduate from ESSEC, not to get into ESSEC. Work experience is not mandatory when you are applying to ESSEC for MiM. A lot of people join who are complete freshers with 0 experience.

    Hey! Thankyou for the video. And are the people doing an apprenticeship exempt from an internship?

  • @iArifAhmad

    @iArifAhmad

    3 жыл бұрын

    Apprenticeship is a work and study contract so you will be studying and working at the same time. Hence for the duration of 2 years of Apprenticeship, you will be a student at ESSEC. You can do internships first and then start your apprenticeships

  • @iArifAhmad

    @iArifAhmad

    Technically, Yes. But you would have to be very careful about it because there are a certain number of mandatory courses that you have to follow in each chair and if those courses fall at the same day and time then you will have a conflict so its better to check every single course relating to the chair before confirming to both chairs that you confirm your place ( Obviously, the first thing being getting accepted to 2 chairs and then having this option in hand.)
