Hi Everyone... I am a biologist and mother originally from the States and just started teaching English here in Peru to kids ranging from 7-11 years. They don't really understand anything in English... yet! It is a voluntary after-school program.

So funny one of your duck examples cause I was trying to get an idea where my students were at during the first class... I asked one boy of 10 years, and he said 'what the f*ck' ... I kept asking him to repeat it b/c at first I didn't understand what he was saying, lol. It will be a fun challenge.

Hi Kayesu! Thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! It's a little tricky to recommend something without any details. However, I think Jolly Phonics is a pretty good program. Although it seems a little aged the principals behind the curriculum are really good. Any book teaching synthetic phonics will work, you just need to find the right curriculum that works best for your student ☺️

Hi Ayensa, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! It sounds like you might need more repetition and opportunity to practice after teaching words. Most especially if your students are quite young they will need LOTS of repetition. A good drilling game is Silly Banana, you can find an explanation of that game here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l32r28SIk9G3drA.html I would also think about the number of words you are teaching. If teaching too many words at once it can be too much for students to remember and follow. I hope that all helps!
