ESH-07 ONLY GOD CAN PROTECT YOU FROM DEMONIC OPPRESSION-DO YOU LET HIM GUARDyourMIND AGAINST ATTACK?

One of the greatest dangers we face daily as believers is slowly allowing God’s influence over our lives to wane. This condition makes God weightless in our lives. He no longer weighs upon every thought, every choice, and every action of our day.
I wonder how many of us think this message is for us this morning. Before we dive in, perhaps we should do a little test for what may be called:
THE GREAT DISCONNECT
First, we think, what is the title of today’s message? The Discipline of Time: “Rejecting Profane & Empty Living” (1 Timothy 4:7a). “Hmmm,” we think, “not sure that I am involved in anything profane (whatever that is) or that I am living in any way that is empty.”
So, that means I don’t have to think much about the next 45 minutes. Right?
That is the exercise that takes place almost unconsciously across America in Bible-teaching churches each week. People sit there, notice the topic, do a quick assessment, and tune to other thoughts while they listen to the message.
But now, we need to go on and do the test to determine whether God has become “weightless” in our lives. This test is simple:
How much do God and His Word directly challenge me, to change the way I think and act daily?
IS GOD WEIGHTLESS IN YOUR LIFE?
A believer who does not actively exercise The Discipline of Time by “Rejecting Profane and empty Living” will slowly become amused, carried along, floating with the current of the world, and away from God.
This doesn’t mean that a believer immediately goes against God; instead, it is a slow process of the Lord having less and less influence over life's priorities.

I just love how your lessons always begin with “let’s open our Bibles to…”. Always anchored firmly in the Word of God. Love your lessons and greatly appreciate all the hard work from you and your dear wife. Thank you Pastor. Blessings to you and your family 🙏

I think GOD put me onto your video because you described me fully, I waste my time on the Internet instead of reading my bible and thinking of other ways of using my time,I'm drifting. Thank you 😊💓

I felt this message as well. I listen to everything you put up and never have I not come away without a direction for change. I want so much for my husband to be my spiritual partner, but as are so many men, he just won’t lead:( Please pray for us.

This was such a hard lesson . The currant against us is so strong. We don’t have slow times like our parents and grandparents did. News, online Bible studies_all kinds of pressure on us constantly. Always exhausted, never enough time.😵‍💫

This is amazing! Now things make more sense to me. I finally understand "Entertainment" and where "Spectacles come from. I needed to hear this sermon at 14 years old before I got into heavy metal and glam. I didn't know WHY it was so bad. I get it now. The "scene" is not healthy for the mind because it gives one a rotten attitude.

Thank you for this message, Dr Barnett, you're my prime example of a life & heart focused on God, a heart & mind "parked" on God. Thank you for your example. I know I'm swimming against the current & you call it exactly, sometimes I just let myself float or coast (knowing I should not be). I do refocus but need to stop letting myself drift to begin with! Thank you.

So true 💯‼️ I had a wonderful righteous streak. Then I window shopped all day online and my flesh was so weak in the evening and I was so impatient angry and self entitled….. it came out of no where, and the only thing I could see was that I took a day off of focusing on God. It was such a huge difference…. Such a radical difference; I wasn’t even doing anything terrible. I was just focused on redecorating the bathroom! 😂 I had a pleasant day until I had to socialize…… timely message

I’m keeping my faith even more because my heart aches. I know God loves me and will provide. Please pray for me. Prayers are all I need! My sons father died three years ago so I am a single mother. I’m not complaining but it’s not easy. I have no family nor friends. I’m struggling to provide for my boys since losing my job for declining the vaccine. My health is poor hence why I declined, Lupus, stents in heart. Im on a bunch of medications. Please keep me in your prayers. Both of my sons are autistic so they tend to be a little more challenging for me. I have been made fun of and laughed at over my situation and called horrible names. I’ve had youtubers call my landlord and harass her making her want to kick me and my children out. Not only is that creepy especially because I’m a single women but it’s also out of line. I’m so discouraged. But I’m keeping faith. I know God will provide and carry me through this hard time. I have Faith! Thank you Jesus!

This does open a massive conversation though. We talk about work/life balance, but from a christian standpoint you have a God/life balance. Sometimes in my mind I wonder if their even is such a thing with the way this information is presented. A question I have after this video is how much does God actually want our attention vs letting us live our own lives? How much does he want or expect us to do as Christians, and what are we allowed to do outside of it. Like, can I even play soccer or video games or are those distractions taking me away from God too? Does Christ want us to spend all our free time trying to convince other people to follow him, or just live out our lives under a moral code? Does Freewill exist at all in this regard, or are we all subjected to a deterministic outcome? For example, I want to write a book, but I can literally do anything but that. I have ADHD and as a person who has it I can actually do manual work and labor but I find it impossible to want to sit down and write for long periods at a time. I can do shorter bits like this paragraph, but not articulate entire chapters of paragraphs. Does God not want me to write, does he even want me to associate with groups of the church (being the outcast minded person I am?) Or was I just born to think about controversial stuff, but never have the capacity to articulate it. >.>

Amen I've been trying to explain that to some people but they aren't getting it. We call out and get saved at that moment, but that's when the sanctification process that leads to justification starts. It's all a big process 😇
