    "A process cannot be understood by stopping it. We must move with the flow of the process. We must join it. We must flow with it." This...from Jamis...the man Paul kills because Jamis will not accept Paul as the voice.

    No, this vision is from a different timeline that Paul sees. That's why he cries over Jamis when he kills him. In this timeline, Paul moved forward and removed the possibility of Jamis being his friend in the future. Yet he still experienced some of that friendship.

    @@fyodoroprichnikbasma Thanks for the lengthy response. I enjoyed reading your take. I didn't read the books after the first book. When I began reading the second one I become put off by it. Also, the cause-and-effect paradigm is just a fancy way of saying different outcomes in the future or I guess different timelines.

    When in a coach from Birmingham to London, i was watching Dune. One phrase stood out and remained in my system forever, as a mantra.' 'Fear, is the Enemy of the Mind'. I kept using that 'mantra' where-ever i went, after that bus-ride, and used it when-ever finding myself in a dicy situation. So far, i am still rolling.

    @@nickb220fear kills the mind in the sense that you’re not really using it. When you’re in fear you rely on instinct. Sure that can save you but being able to keep a cool head where most would feel fear may be even more useful. Often you feel fear when it’s not needed. Men have scared off predators twice their size by facing them down, using the animals instincts against them.

    Paul sees unthinkable numbers of possible futures in the book. Go read it. It goes so much deeper into all these ideas. The effect of his Mentat training on Bene Gesserit prescience is interesting.

    My favorite scene in the movie!

  • @PlXELPUNK
    @PlXELPUNK4 ай бұрын

    In this scene we see Paul and his mother escaping capture in an ornithopter. Her first words in this clip are, "There are jet flares behind us" (according to the Blu-ray subtitles), NOT ornithopters. It cuts to three shiny things following them. Then you see three ornithopters in the air with no rockets or "jet flares" before them. We cut to Paul, banking HARD like he's evading the missiles. After he banks, the scene cuts back to the ornithopters firing rockets that undoubtedly resemble the "shiny things" you saw in the rearview mirror cut seconds ago and we begin hearing the warning chime in the cockpit. Is Paul seeing the future or is this an editing mistake?

    Thopters do have jet thrusters of their own, as can be seen on Paul's thopter later in the scene. Perhaps Jessica saw the thopters firing thrusters to catch up to them, before slowing to avoid the storm and to be stable to fire a salvo.

  • @manakin5

    Another way of viewing this scene is that when it cuts to the 3 thopters in pursuit, we're actually seeing them just moments before Jessica sees the jet flares.

    Can someone explain this scene, is this voice guiding him, is it his ancestors or something else?

  • @pseudonymousbeing987

    @pseudonymousbeing987

    4 ай бұрын

    The Voice is not a guide. It's just a psychological and linguistic technique of manipulation. It's not meant to be magic, it's just perfect word choice and tone. It's portrayed slightly differently in the books. His ancestral memories aren't helping him here. A vision of a possible future, where Jamis talks to Paul and shares wisdom of how to approach problems, helps Paul without ever even happening. The scene is showing us that Paul uses Mentat calculation to sort out the sheer quantity of data that seeing all possible futures is. Plus thr prescient abilities from spice itself to see into possible futures and extract information. Jamis was showing him how to tame a worm. He explained that Paul trying to understand reality, the entire storm or the worm, enough to completely control it isn't possible. Reality is beyond that. All we can do is move with and within it, we are not able to extract ourselves from it and be gods above it.
