Escapes from the Gift Wrap Position | Jiu-Jitsu Escapes

Спорт

Technical mount, or kneeling mount, can be extremely tricky to escape. The top opponent has submission opportunities and is close to taking your back, not to mention the additional dangers if it is a striking situation.
These are some of the most solid escapes I have learned and that I use to get out of this difficult position. This video offers two early escapes and two late ones from both standard technical mount as well as with the gift wrap control.
I hope you like these and find them useful. Thank you for watching!

    Me and a friend have been experimenting on bridging into the leg of the person on top. It actually works pretty well when gift wrapped etc. At the very least you disrupt the balance of the person on top to create some type of opening.

    The details in the shin sweep escape helped me better understand how to do the top leg through escape that Ryron and Rener teach on the west coast. I’ve done top arm through and technical mount armlock escapes successfully in the past, but top leg through was a problem for me due to not picking up the details for that sooner. Thanks!

    I learned that setup to make the space for the bottom leg originally, but over the years, I’ve had more success with the top leg. I’ve never seen the way that Rener or Ryron do this one, but I would love to hear the technical insight they would put to it. They are geniuses.

    The top leg through escape I learned from them was with the gi pants rather than no-gi. A couple of the details for that involve grasping the material above and below the inside of the top person’s front knee prior to shrimping and shooting the top leg in. The bottom person’s bottom thigh and hand are also working to secure their opponent’s foot to facilitate the knee drive needed to, for lack of better words, sweep the top person and pass their guard.

    Professor, thank you for the helpful video. This technical mount is probably my favorite position because the bow and arrow or the armbar are very high percentage from here. I am concerned that the first couple escapes are difficult because the top person will be going for your neck or arm immediately and if you do not defend then it is over quickly. Can you defend the neck and the arm AND execute the defenses that require your arm to attack the top person’s leg? Also, for the top guy, what’s the best defense for this escape? Thanks!

  • @KnightJiuJitsu

    @KnightJiuJitsu

    I mention about closing the immediate spaces needed for the top person’s attacks to be effective, but even then it is definitely a timing issue. As with any bad position, especially one this bad, you cannot defend everything perfectly and escape easily. The timing and awareness and mechanics have to be on point. But these are the best escapes I have learned over all the years from this position.

    On the Funk Escape from technical mount, is it fair to say that it can be followed up with a standard foot lock or other leg lock variations?

    That’s why I left it open-ended. Depending on the situation and rules (or lack of) you have several options.

    Fast Donny 316 You can use the ankle control you have at the end of the movement, but that doesn't give you much control on the leg. If you can move your hand to his knee and control the knee, get your opposite shin in his hips inbetween his legs, and have pressure mid way inbetween being low and high into his hips you have any leg lock set up can think of from there. Basics would be if bottom has his feet up go into a leg lace, if his feet are on the ground back step into a knee bar or inside leg lace, or either way you can knee slice your shin through the leg you have control of his knee and spin into a knee bar. These are just the basics are there are alot more options from there you can do too

    I had my opponent in a guillotine choke but he managed to plant his feet flat on the ground behind him and pick up and slam me which made me lose my position. Any tips on how to prevent getting slammed while performing a guillotine choke?

    I would suggest cutting the angle more if you’re going for guillotine from the guard. The guy can only pick you up if you are in line with him.
