Agreed. This is definitely 1 of those types of movies that once you start watching it you don't want it to end because how good of a story it is. And honestly I think they did a very good job filming it as well.

Worst movie ever!

I adored this film!! Creative, artistic, and deliciously dark! Even funny!! The way they designed the devils and demons were SO detailed and gorgeous like a medieval Fresco! Highly recommend to people who love folk horror or philosophical horror.

Watched this movie yesterday, and it was really good! Not a scary horror movie, but a great fantasy with great cinematography, storytelling and character developement, and the biggest surprise is that it was really good-humoured. :)

One of the best movies I've watched in a long time. I usually get bored halfway through and check my phone, but this one had me glued to the screen the entire time. Beautiful movie and amazing story. It had a few very funny scenes, I loved the sense of humor used. Recommended 100%!

I could not agree more on that. This definitely is 1 good movie.

This movie reminds me a lot of the old scary stories my grandmother used to tell me when I was a kid, back in the 1970s. She used to tell me about some really spooky experiences she had when she was growing up in Europe, in the early 1900s. Back then, she lived in a very small town in Northern Spain, surrounded by forest, right next to the French border. Her stories were about ghostly apparitions, witches, elves and demons. Of course, I don´t know if any of them were true, but at least she thought they were and I was fascinated by them. Many years later, I had a chance to visit the town myself and it was indeed kind of scary and eerie looking. By the way, I enjoyed the film!

Oh yes I can relate. My mom and grandma had stories of long ago too. And im from Asia, a lot of the undeveloped parts are downright spooky. I personally have experienced something while travelling through Malaysia and staying in my aunt's house right next to a very big forested hill. It was the spookiest sound I've heard all my life and it did not sound like any animal or bird. It was circling around the roof of the house and I DARE NOT move and was cussing myself for sleeping with the window open but at least there were metal grills on the window. Wow. I can never forget that moment.

Errementari is a delightful dark fairytale film. It has great use of practical effects and makes for a stunning dark comedy. In many ways, it's like a companion piece to Pan's Labyrinth. I highly recommend it as you are less likely to see a film like this from typical Hollywood. This would be considered a high-risk movie by their standards.

Honestly, one of the best movies from 2018. Very original take on a European folklore and all around creative piece. Don’t disrespect the movies culture, watch with subs.

Yeah I seen this on Netflix with English dub. It wasn't that good at all. Then halfway through I decided to watch from the beginning with the original voices and it was way better.

The comments to this video show that there is no consensus regarding what people want from a horror film. Many people base their opinion of a horror film on one simple question, "is it scary?" As far as I can tell, it's not hard to make a scary movie. You can fill the movie with gruesome scenes of people being tortured and chopped up into pieces, or you can use cliche shock scenes, e.g. someone opening a medicine cabinet and seeing a scary face in the mirror when they close it. What's the point? It's all been done before. When I watch a horror film, I want to see something I haven't seen before, and that's what Errementari delivers. It tells an obscure folk tale that we would not otherwise ever hear. It is based on a view of religion that even modern day fundamentalists would view as antiquated. It gives you a window into the mindset of people in a different period of history. If you want to see a movie that simply replicates the techniques developed by Hitchcock, Carpenter, or Craven, then Errementari is not the movie for you. However, if you want to see something unique, something you haven't seen before, then you should definitely check it out. Just to expound a bit, there are many critically acclaimed films that have a good deal of sex and nudity, e.g. Carnal Knowledge, Damage, and Mulholland Drive. They are not suitable for children, but they have a great deal of artistic merit. However, if your only interest in watching a movie is to see sex and nudity, then you may as well just watch a porno flick. Similarly, if your only interest in a horror movie is to be frightened, sickened, or disturbed, there are movies like that. If you like that kind of movie that's fine, I am not criticizing you. My point is that "horror movie" has become an overly broad term. Perhaps there should be separate classifications for the type of horror that one wants to see.

@Sleazy Challenger It sounds as though you and I have different tastes in horror movies and that's fine. What I don't like is when people say that a horror film "sucks" without any explanation, or when they think that their own criteria for what they want in a horror film should be the universally accepted criteria in judging films. It's just like with music. If you hate a particular genre of music, then there is no point in posting your opinion of an album in that genre.

Not "perhaps". There are a lot. But most people only think about shit like "The Conjuring" when they talk about horror movies.

I loved this movie! It's so hard to find movies that show hell and the image that is commonly thought of as demons and the devil. (Red, horns, pitchfork etc.) I love stuff like that. And the fact that they threw in a good amount of comedy without making it campy was amazing. I hate that i let it sit on my list for so long. I loved Sartael

Not a Horror Movie but A BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE❤ EXCELLENT WRITING❤ Loved The Acting Of That Demon which made the audience fall in love with the demon character❤🎉🎉

I’m not one for subtitles, but this was fantastic!! Great movie had me in awe and in stitches laughing some points in the movie! I forgot I was watching subtitles film I loved it that much!!!!

I usually hate period piece stories, but this one looked interesting. Very good tale! Never dull, never boring. And the special effects makeup on the demons is just perfect!

Great theatrical film ! Beautiful, simple story and a great atmosphere ! Man, wish they made more like this. Not everything has to be end of the world shit where some beautiful people put tights on and fight some monster.

Not a Great Masterpiece, rather a small Masterpiece. I enjoyed it a lot. will stay in my mind for a Long time. This is something you can‘t tell about 99% of modern films today. Respect. A little gem. Thumbs up. 👍

This film is an aesthetic feast an admixture of the brothers Grimm and a stroll through the work of Peter the Elder. It's telling is so detailed and it's actor's sublimely arresting. It's an absolute must for those who enjoy storytelling at its highest pinnacle. Bravo to the team who put this together.

This movie was so much fun. Almost like a comedy horror but the humour it is subtle. There were some inconsistencies but it is mostly good and worth a watch.

That's how Spanish people are in real life too :) I can only imagine in the past I guess slapping kids was totally normal in Europe. I am European and I was slapped at school so many times. It was totally normal 20 years back.

It was worth the watch. This movie starts off kinda slow in the first half, but the plot gets better towards the second half of the movie and the plot twists were really good.

Great movie, what made it even better is that no CGI were involved, CGI is like the autotune in music.

the attention of Netflix to specifically a basque fairy is not good becoz of the basques, but it is good that Netflix UNDERSTANDS that with all their budget and all their global coverage they should INVEST in LOCAL interesting stories (be it fairies or modern tales) as there is SOOO MUCH INTERESTING tales to disclose to the rest of the world. And NEtflix realises that inspiration should not be left in an uninspiring loophole of remakes of Shakespeares, Brothers Grimm, Dickens, Marvel, and Disney to guarantee a continuous entertainment company. There is MORE in the world. Plus, Netflix receives EU financial support and tax benefits if it makes films IN europe. It is a win-win. Finally.

This movie is awesome!

I feel bad for Paxti. He’s not as cruel and evil as the town feared him to be, he is just sad and depressed after losing his wife. As for the demon he made a deal with, he just torments as payback for the life he ruined. Ps: about him torturing the demon, it’s ironic and nuts how he does it. Doing it would call for a pair of massive balls.

In the original Basque tale, Patxi is not evil. He is considereded as such because he doesn't follow the church's commandments, that's all.

Don't watch this one with the "facts" that have been created in us from other horror movies about the devil and hell...just watch to enjoy. You'll definitely find the devil funny. I was left in stitches where he said "pleeeeeeease🤗" looking all cute! Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!

I really enjoyed this. I do like newer horror/scary movies too...but I really like stuff like this more. Most movies are the same drawn out suspense and jump scares...I like these kinds of visuals.

Should've gone with subtitles. The Basque language/culture is a central part of the whole film.

I don't even consider this a horror movie as some people would put it it just a story with supernatural themes the movie does do a good job of building up the tension like a horror movie but then it explodes like a action movie finale
