That's certainly the norm. But how then do kind, well meaning, intelligent people find their ways into leadership positions in government as opposed to these sleazy type B narcissists with personality disorders? Is it possible for good people to get into politics? It appears to be something that needs to change. The world is going to continue to be a nasty place if we're left with the Bidens and Trumps of the world to choose from. RFK jr is a no brainer improvement, but nobody thinks he can win. He is a step in the right direction, no doubt.

One of the issues I have with Eric Weinstein is that he will say something completely unclear, and then just sit there and act like you should totally know what he is talking about, and then you have to prod him to get an explanation to some arcane point he is trying to make. American political parties are a -troth- trough (apparently I can't spell) . No explanation, just sits there smugly acting like that sentence makes any sense absent an explanation. He does this all the time, and it bugs the crap out of me, to the point that I can barely stand to watch him in conversation.

You're not alone in this opinion. I like the general ideas this guy brings up but he comes off as such a conceited "I know things neither you nor anyone else knows" narcissist that I can hardly stand listening to him. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt - maybe he's well meaning but simply can't communicate. Regardless, I don't find him worthy of attention. First and foremost, he is NOT a good communicator and, in fact, comes off as incoherent at best and arrogant at worst. Sure, he has some good ideas and seems to be a contrarian by nature (I am too), and yeah maybe you could argue what he's doing is using "metaphor" but why? Why not simply speak plainly for people to understand. Why be so cryptic? Why be so obtuse? He's speaking this way to be more theatrical or to come off as being "deeper" than he really is. He's not this being who's just so smart he's thinking on a level beyond what us plebians can understand, he's just a guy who can't seem to communicate intelligibly. Many of his sentences are just empty and lacking in genuine content. He simply hints at possible things, gives cryptic responses, or just babbles incoherently. Yes, he makes some interesting points but a lot of it is incoherent rambling and, I'll chance a guess, confabulation. It's not that I or others didn't understand what he might've been trying to say - we're all likely intelligent enough to understand the general picture. But it's the way he goes about it that raises red flags for so many of us. In fact, I would wager serious money that the more intelligent and/or educated one is, the higher the likelihood they would find Eric Weinstein to be an unreliable source of information. I'll also add, as mere testimony, that I've known people like this - if you're seeing something special, I'm sorry to say it's likely smoke and mirrors. Mr. Weinstein: Stop pausing for dramatic effect so much as if we're just hanging on every word you say. You're not the smartest, richest, wisest, sexiest, most educated, most interesting or most accomplished person who's been on this podcast. Again Mr. Weinsein: You're just one of many who may have some interesting perspectives and ideas to present but that's it. Just say what you mean, give your honest opinion without all the theatricality, and have a real, genuine conversation.

You don't really think they are that much smarter than the other kids do you? When I was younger did 4 years in the Air Force then got out and went to college. The people in college were not in any way smarter then the people I met in the military. Ones Daddy could write a check, the other one could not. But smart enough to join the military and learn about the world beyond the Hayfield or your 'Hood. The smarter kids I met in college were aware of it. But none of them actually run for office, b/c the game is too nasty. Who would want to work or fight with a bunch of corrupt a-holes for a multi year term. Even if a decent person were to get into office, among other mostly lower character people, and tried their best, they would be blamed for what they failed to achieve more than praised for anything they accomplished. And those that opposed them would slander them via the media, like they make RFK Jr out to be a kook, b/c he actually dares to talk about fighting the corrupt system itself. It's a very unappealing life path that does not beckon to good people who don't enjoy conflict.

It's really sad. I am German, living in the UK, but I deal with public officials in Europe and the US quite a bit and the one thing that unites them is that they just seem utterly incompetent and useless. I have absolutely 0 trust in any government official or justice system... I don't know how I can when every time they open their mouths or make a decision, it's just so utterly stupid. How can the German chancellor stand there in the second half of 2020 and speak to 84 million Germans on TV and make the statement that vaccine mandates are inhumane and he does not support them and they will not become law... and 6 months later the same man stands in front of the cameras, speaking once again to 84 million Germans and says that he has always been in favor of vaccine mandates and keeps going on about how they are unavoidable and definitely have to become law... how am I supposed to take someone like that seriously? How am I supposed to take a UK prime minister seriously who doesn't know how much the average person earns, how much bread is, how much the average house in London costs? How am I supposed to trust a supreme court in Germany that consists entirely of elected party or former party members of the current leading government party? How am I supposed to trust a court that claims that saying that men cannot be women is hateful speech and people should go prison for expressing it, while forced medical procedures are totally fine by claiming that "you haven't lost your basic liberties, you are just not allowed to practice them (temporarily)"? I just think the public sphere in the Western world is a complete clown show. I struggle to take any public official seriously because they all just strike me as narcisstic a**holes who couldn't give less of a s*it about the population or the country. I want to believe in the institutions, but they are just all doing such a terrible job that I don't know how I am supposed to do that?

@TiGGowich I don't have a way out I have found a way through that works for me. To give some context,I worked with Kenyans (Indigenous, Indian heritage and British heritage) for about 12 years. I travelled there numerous times. I met some marvellous people, but also knew that there were those I found I didn't trust, and all in between - much like anywhere, I suppose. I ended up dedicating 10 years to one particular group, the Kenana Knitters. The lady who founded the group once said to me 'we can't help everyone, but we help who we can'. Her words have stayed with me and help me when I am struggling to find a way through. She started more than 20 years ago with 2 ladies, wool, knitting needles and some simple designs for soft toys. Today, the group is employing and training the 2nd generation of ladies (daughters, cousins, friends) and they export around the world. The patterns are all hand designed, mostly by the founder, on a grid with crosses, as literacy and numeracy can be challenges for these country ladies. This is a story of my experience, not a solution, but it is a reminder that what seems impossible, over time with patience, determination, some elbow grease and those who either cheer us on or join us, or both, is possible. The Kenana Knitter motto is 'changing lives one stitch at a time'. Note to self: Once I decide what needs to be done, do it. Once I decide how I want to be, be it.

What does a sane world look like? Remember, we are a world of 8 billion, a country(US) of what, 330 million, all with different interests and beliefs. Governing 330 million people is not easy, and democracy is inherently messy, there are 330 million individual viewpoints and ideas, and never a consensus. So again, could you tell me what sane looks like, in that context?

Eric Weinstein is probably the most interesting individual who's intelligence astounds me. He is always fascinating to listen to and make you stop and think of all sides of a topic. Excellent interview by Chris - letting him speak and teasing out answers to unquestionable questions that we ponder on but not game enough to raise in public was exceptional.

Nobody says that there’s absolutely no difference between the two, but the thought that both parties are incredibly corrupt and care much more about their own wellbeing and their mega-donors’ much more than the average American is absolutely true. You can certainly make the argument that perhaps there is one party that is better at the thing you care about than another then that’s true. But to pretend like there is someone to vote FOR in this election is laughable.

@@vitaly6312IMO, having to make a choice between only these two people again is absolutely insane, a disgrace and an embarrassment for our country…but since a choice must be made, I think it only makes sense to vote for the person who HAS NOT been charged with 91 indictments of fraud against him and found liable for sexual assault and defamation against a woman and ordered to pay her $5M at the first trial and then more than $80M at the second trial. IMO, that is not a good look for the President of the United States.
