Well, common sense and reading the lyrics say it is about writing a song.
When one man and a guitar sounds better than a 7 person band. Peter Cetera sounds like a dying cat compared to Eric Johanson.

Early Chicago was an iconic jazz-rock band, with many stellar vocalists, including Peter Cetera! You can appreciate one great talent, namely Eric Johanson, without putting down another, and felines while you're at it.
