Gordon Payne well, of course. Hendrix is the god of blues rock guitar, and there’s no way anyone after him could’ve had even close to the impact he had. He exploded the idea of what guitar could be, and guys like Kingfish benefit from what Jimi did with the 6 string. Doesn’t mean Kingfish isn’t rippin’ in his own way.

@Gordon Payne Kingfish's music isn't about who he measures up too. He does have musicians that inspire him, I'm sure, but Kingfish plays from his own soul. I love listening to Hedrix's music, but I also love listening to Kingfish. I don't compare the two, just enjoy them both for the type of blues they are.

@@DaRza17 The music labels only satisfy public demand. Saying the industry manipulates music tastes is like saying the meat industry manipulates your taste buds. Witch is more likely: the labels decided one day to not satisfy the demand of people's music tastes, and to promote "bad" music for no reason that no one liked, Or, people wanted to listen to new, exiting music that they enjoyed, and the labels roled with it like at any other point in modern history Just let people enjoy their music, and stop expecting people to have the same, subjective music tastes as you. And stop carring what other people ware, it not your fucking money. If they want to waste their money on shoes, more power to them, even if they are dumb for wasting thier money.

@@jhonsmith2620 Mainstream music is algorithms and science, not expression. Its music written and designed to sell so that the record companies make money. Thats why they all have virtually the exact same sound. its a scientific balance between familiar sounds that people recognize so people continue to listen to it(we like whats familiar, that's basic human instinct) and original enough that people realize they aren't listening to the exact same song. But I kid you not if you were to play 30 of those songs back to back to back without stopping it would sound like one very long repetitive song. like a club beat almost. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Its mass produced, and its largest audience is either very young and impressionable, and the primary draw for them is popularity amongs't peers, bright colors, familiar sound, and the attractiveness of the artists. These companies no longer promote unique sound or talent, because its too risky. They market artists that are going to sell stadiums because that's what rakes in the money. they cant risk promoting an artist that might be just a little bit too much on the fence of what people will like. Studios will do this rarely, if they feel like they can manipulate the sound enough to make it popular. Cue Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey, who both spiked and faded from popularity at record speed. The notion that music has been steadily declining in quality since the 90s is not a "boomer fad" or a bunch of grumbling old men who miss the old ways, even asartists from the nineties, notably Snoop, Eminem, Dr. Dre, among others, point out whats happened to their own genres, its scientifically measurable, and observable by anyone who has an ear for music and does their research. Music IS declining in quality. Everyone is allowed to like what they like, but allowed mass produced slime to be exonerated and become the acceptable norm lowers the bar across the board. Its the same mindset that allows me to buy a canvas, splash 2 buckets of paint on it, and market it as art. Somebody somewhere is going to try to follow the naked emperor and claim I've created a masterpiece.

Love them all, but Eric Gales is the genius up there. His sense of rhythm, harmony, guitar styles and history is prodigious, and every measure is inventive.

I heard B. B. King say in an interview that while he had to think about what he was playing, Stevie Ray Vaughn just "spoke" fluently without needing to pause (I'm almost certainly butchering the metaphor, but that was the gist). Since then it's something I keep in mind when watching musicians and Eric Gales is definitely in the category of not needing to stop and think. He just plays and it's awesome.

jkgramps , c’mon now Eric has attained master status. Samantha and Kingfish have a long way to go before they get his level. Gotta learn how to do more than play leads to be a true blues master.

@@sammack1564 I don't disagree. I guess better to say that they've each mastered the blues. I'd be the first to argue that Eric Gales is in a special club - one that (in my view) includes the likes of Jimi and Johnny Winter.
