    People this was a jam session, not rehearsed, and it wasn't a competition to see who the best was. All people involved were being creative with the song, and they all did well. It is what it is, musicians partying and having fun! I also think Paul Shaffer did a good job organizing (some call it orchestrating) the lead and vocal song parts. Everyone had several chances to shine on what they do best, and the end result didn't turn into a car wreck. Great job everyone!

    Sorry to sound smug but it's always non-players who think these folks are in competition with each other. I'm sure they didn't discuss who played the best solo after it was all over. I think they were having a jamming good time and enjoyed playing with one another. The experience of music from the listener's point of view is very subjective. I don't think there's any issue there. So by what criteria is one player better than another? These people aspire to be artists. That's the highest level of attainment in music (as with other arts). You can't rate these folks 1 to 10, or, in the case of Rollling Stone magazine 1 to 100. Right.

  • @tdrewke

    @tdrewke

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@paulferris662 Yes, Paul, you're so right, and you obviously "get" it. It's not a competition. Art is created both in the minds of the artists and in the minds of the (for music) listeners, and if it's good or great at the time, you know it. The only competition in (some) artist's heads is with themselves: did I play the lick I wanted to play, or did it come out sharp, not in the pocket, too loud, too soft; was it better than last night or did I suck? I've certainly heard that from some musicians, but never, "was [name the musician] better than me?"

    Simply not true. Having been involved in many of these big jams (for video purposes), I guarantee you there is no substitute for a "sucker MC" --- Paul smooths things over and everybody knows him, he's like everybody's bud, and what could have been an argument turns out to be all cool with no negativity. You nay-sayers are hating on some fantasy, not the real Paul.
