    As goid as MK is, he couldnt play a solo like this on his BEST day ! This solo and performance along with the Hyde park one are his 2 best. The level of skill, feel, touch,phrasing and knoweldge of the complete blues scales required to pull off a solo like that are off the charts. That being said EC rythem playing is second to none, and his vocals are top shelf. A once in a life time musician and talent!

    How can you get a better guitar solo.. man? It's almost 4 minutes long and it's a fucking improvised journey of pure melodic beauty and raw feel. Ofcourse you have solo's that might be technically or melodically sounder.. but nothing i've heard improvised that is even close to the magic that this solo produces. It's fucking exceptional. It's a true honour that we get that chance to see Clapton peak at his most finest.. way after he "peaked" at his finest. This video is a memory that will live with me for life.

Clapton has amazing licks but his ability to just amp the crowd and music up by just building and building is second to none and if he comes out of the gate at 150 he doesn’t go back down to 80 he just stays at top speeds like the cocaine solo from this same concert

His critics, mostly purists who spout shite like its going out of fashion reckon he`s a plagiarist. He could have been in the Stones, he`s played with the Beatles and even Pavarotti. There is no-one anywhere that even comes close and when he is no longer with us we will realise what a true star Eric is.

    I heard clapton in an interview once about the late Stevie Ray Vaughn. He said something about SRV's ability to constantly come up with new improvisations and licks on the fly without even thinking about it. That it just flowed from his soul in an unending flow. And Clapton then said. I could never do that. And he explained that he always had to have a plan before he began playing. I dare suggest that this time, he skipped the plan and played straight from the soul. So yes. Clapton can play straight from the soul if he is inspired enough. Damn!!! that solo was great!!!!

    40 bar solo that flows like a babbling brook into a river. The build up flows so seamless and smooth. I played drums for an Eric Clapton Tribute band in AZ. Slow hand the Eric Clapton Experience. Our Guitar player ( Tom Robino) would play this version note for note. We got it right most of the time but never perfect. The whole solo section is something you have to feel you cannot write sheet music for stuff like this and even get near no matter how good you are, it is entirely feel and emotion.

    Game,set and match for all other players who question the greatness of EC. This version and the Hyde Park version are probably the best solos for Sheriff. Not sure anyone could build a solo to this level. It just takes off as it moves on, with great flow and phrasing. EC has put down a lifetime of work that few if any will ever match or come near. His playing should be required listening to any player who wants to play blues, rock guitar. It's rare when someone comes along who masters an instrument and style of playing to this extreme!

  • @sebastianadlercreutz

    @sebastianadlercreutz

    2 жыл бұрын

    While I agree that this is one of his best live performances of all time and one that easily reach my top 10 of the greatest solos in history, I think the Hyde Park version is his worst. In that one he fails miserably to hit the notes and falls out of melody. The flow is horrible, he is struggling constantly on where to go next and tries to do stuff that is way too over-complicated for this tune. The lead-in to the solo sound like he's shredding on a sick cat and it makes my ears bleed. I never regarded Clapton as a natural born guitar player, it always felt to me like more of a hard-earned skill that kept improving as he got out of his abuse, found balance in his life and increased his repertoire, and just like an old wine he just kept getting better and better, sadly though his peak has been way too short, and I really don't care about his period in Cream. Clapton talks about this when he first heard SRV on the radio in his car, he had to pull over to just listen. SRV was pure talent and the difference between the Hard-Learned Masters and the Talent, can be heard on the SRV Texas Flood El Mocambo version. SRV just opens up and let it flow without thinking or planning ahead on what to play next, and like an endless flowing stream it just comes naturally to him and without interruption, at least until someone pulls the plug or the drummer gets bored and brings him out of his trance. SRV died way too young and I would had loved to hear him at the age of 50 carrying the experience/mastery of Clapton. Another great example is Gary More playing Red House at the Fender 50 year Anniversary, it's a mind blowing performance and sadly one of his last, but again you can still feel that he is thinking while playing. Don't get me wrong I love Clapton and Moore for their mastery and perfection in sound, I am just having wet-dreams about having both worlds in a guitarist, unfortunately I think God has reserved that treat for heaven only, as we keep having six strings down.

    What I love so much here is how Clapton is dressed like a straight up dad hrer, yet totally melts the faces of everyone lmaooo. It's a musician's equivalent of "fuck-you-money," just in a musical setting. Let's face it; clapton could go out there in a pair of boxers shorts and crocs and still be able to melt everyone's faces. It's just so cool that he is at a point where he can drop the "rock star" image and just live for the music itself. Awesome work.
