    It’s because he covering an amazingly great song, and I love Eric Clapton but go and watch a video of gary booker (I believe that’s original singer and composer) playing piano and singing this song with an orchestra…. It would probably blow you away. The lyrics are actually rubbish, they actually don’t mean anything, they were just bunch of random Unrelated phrases one of the band member had written down, and they put some of them together for this song. The songs piano melody, that Booker created while just noodling around one day, and it’s just one of those things in music, that universally is pleasing to most humans, and brings out a strong emotional connection…I mean, this one of the top funeral songs actually, and I can promise you it’s not because of the lyric, it’s because it’s the melody arrangement evokes strong emotions in people. Probably why you loved Claptons cover of it, enough to comment on it. Music is life ✌️

    Back in his drinking days Eric and Gary Brooker would spend afternoons at the pub down the road from Eric's house and drink Courvoisier and brandy by the quart. Their friendship grew even better when they both took the pledge. Gary started playing as a member of the core group with Eric at the alcohol free New Year's Eve jam at Woking beginning in 1991. Over the years many of the 60's rock era artists, including Ringo Starr and his brother-in-law Joe Walsh, would "sit in" or make a "guest appearance." Gary's spotlight number of course was "Whiter Shade of Pale." The all-star bands took their names from phrases found in the "blue book "Alcoholics' Anonymous" by Bill W. For example, the first band in 1991 was named "Complete Abandon." This year, probably to re-emphasize the pledge that Gary and Eric and others made to one another, they christened the band with the name "Promises." Rest in peace, Gary. Your song and voice will remain forever.

    One of my alltime favorite songs. This tune is so incredible beautiful, influenced by Bach. It' s a shame that songs like these are now rated as old men' s music from a past century.

    Well, they literally are! I grew up with this music but it’s unrealistic to expect non-musician kids of today to get with actual songs played by actual musicians! (;

    A Great Song is a Great Song regardless of how old it is and this is one of the Greats .. Unlike most Songs from Artists Now, W.S.of.P … will still be being played in 50 years time.. if the world is still here that is ..🙏

    @@markhill9275 I know what you mean. Donau Walzer ( the beautiful blue Danube) for example is such a great piece of music. I've learned when I saw Kubricks 2001 for the first time. But same story you will not find many youngsters who knows this and wants listen to it. You need a f... hip hop or techno beat to make it sounds cool.

    Proud to be one of the old men who had the privilege to grow up and “old” with these great musicians.

    So many forgotten songs, Clapton brings these songs back each one with creative deviations with his solos

    So many musicians, people, organizations and even governments owe Eric Clapton an apology. What he has endured as an early whistleblower has been horrendous. If anyone deserves a medal for speaking out, it would be him. He is a true hero. Robert W. Malone
