    One cool detail that needs to be mentioned. Grisha does not see Eren at all. He can only see Zeke and himself. Since he is viewing future Eren's memories, he can only see what Eren is seeing, hence in the room he only sees Zeke standing there. When he took out the key, he is staring into nothing, but also looking at himself through Eren's eyes. At the end when they hug, they can only hug because Eren was standing in the right position for Grisha to see Zeke. Thought this was worth pointing out since some people might misunderstand these scenes as if Grisha is seeing them himself. He is not seeing them just stand there, rather he sees a second perspective (two POVS) at the same time.

    What? It's like the story where time is implied that has the least paradoxes. It's not time travelling. It's just memories of one specific group of people than can be shared from future to past. The events were always how they happened. No alternative timeline can happen with that.

    The thing I don’t understand is how Eren was able to make his dad give him the attack Titan. Wouldn’t his dad have needed to do that first in order for Eren to then manipulate him since the attack Titan is required for the ability. Also why hasn’t any other user been able to stop what wrens doing? How would that work? And can what Eren does have a butterfly effect that could ruin everything?

  • @aesvuh

    @aesvuh

    (I assume) That’s because eren has the founding titan, and he is able to control it more then anyone else because he isn’t royal blooded, (aka that’s why he’s the one who was able to do the “butterfly effect”) the reason he was able to manipulate his dad is because when he manipulated his dad he was 19 and had the attack titan, he was just manipulating the past which effected his future, it’s a basic time paradox when you think about it. It’s just like they describe many times as well “paths is as if everything here happens in an instant” so it’s logical to assume that time isn’t necessarily irrelevantly in paths, but everything happens in an instant which is pretty hard to comprehend haha

    This is a common paradox in time travel, look up "boostrap paradox". The point of origin is undetermined, hence the paradox. Gives him the last request to stop Eren Now after all that grisha returns back and realizes that everything Eren showed him happened , and he finds out through present Eren Carla was eating . An attack titan’s access to future memories hinge on future Attack Titans actively sending those memories back to past users. So Grisha “hearing” Eren in the cave was actually more like Eren sending back his memory of him convincing Grisha to take the Founder, and Grisha “remembering” Eren’s pep talk. Eren says it, remembers his words, then sends his own memory of his speech to Grisha in the cave, and how Grisha can remember the speech just like Eren does, and the words Eren said committed Grisha to taking the Founder. Inadvertently, this memory would show Grisha an image from Eren’s POV; Grisha would have a memory of seeing himself from the third person, through Eren’s eyes, while Eren spoke. This last point also explains how he can see Zeke at the end of the scene. Eren looks at Zeke, sends Grisha the memory of Eren looking at Zeke, and then Grisha can in a way understand the situation enough through Eren’s memories to know that Zeke can hear him when he speaks. Grisha can see him and Zeke interacting from Eren’s point of view, but can’t see Zeke from his own point of view. Hope that helped.

    Thank you friend! I did 3 or 4 AoT videos last season but got a bit overwhelmed covering Digimon & AoT so I stopped. As for the manga I really do like the ending. I often look at the criticisms and ask "well how would you have done it?" and when I see people online's version of the ending, it's either ridiculous, worse than Isayama's unrealistic, and / or not fully thought out. I genuinely think Isayama's ending is kind of the only ending we could have gotten. I also think people made it worse for themselves by expecting ONE MORE TWIST. I would read the reddit threads every chapter and people were like "any minute now Eren is going to reveal he had ONE MORE TWIST" -- but if you just accept what Isayama told you as fact around Chapter 131, it all makes way more sense. Also many fans probably wouldn’t think that hard about some of the things here. Also Eren was likely manipulating his past self and his future self seems to have done just that. It’s fine if he shows emotions. Also killing all of humanity doesn’t seem right according to an alternative ending by a fan. And I think it shows how he did achieve what he sought to do. It all comes down to how time works in this universe. When it comes down to it, time as a concept is somewhat theoretical, so the way it works in a fictional universe depends on the writer. Whereas in other universes, time travel causes branching timelines or alternate universes, or just straight up changes reality, that's not the case here. Time is a closed loop in AoT. Past, present, and future all exist simultaneously, which means that Eren has ALWAYS existed, and been an active part of the timeline thanks to the attack titan power and him accessing the paths by touching Zeke. Eren telling Grisha to kill the Reiss' from the future was always how it happened, a permanent part of the timeline due to him getting to the paths in the "future" (actually a fixed moment in the timeline). This is why the concept of "freedom" or free-will is so relevant. Eren yearns for freedom, but as it stands, there doesn't appear to be free-will in this world because if your future self is dictating the events of the past in this kind of timeline, you've never actually made a choice. It's all just happening as it's meant to. Re-reading my own explanation, I'm probably not as clear as I was hoping to be, but if you've ever read Watchmen by Alan Moore, Dr. Manhattan explains time in the same way and experiences past, present, and future all in one. I'm sure someone else can jump in here and clear some things up as well!

  • @Volcommz99

    @Volcommz99

    The concept of memories is something that has to have been experienced by the user. Any Attack Titan user could have showed some of its memories, but this would have had to be something that he himself lived through. The reason why Eren can basically influence the past with his future memories, is that he has the combo of Founding Titan + Attack Titan + Coordinate. He is able to show memories of himself living through past memories. Through the Founding and the Coordinate, he is able to navigate past memories of Grisha and then send his point of view of those memories to Grisha, as if he was also there. Grisha does not see Eren with his own eyes at all in the episode, he only sees himself through Eren's memories and Eren's perspective, proving to him that Eren was also there even though he cannot see him. This is why Grisha can only see Zeke when Eren is standing behind him, also looking at Zeke. I hope this somehow helps you understanding.

    It’s some kind of fixed time loop time travel that is able to happen because everything we are seeing has already happened. The time loop does not have any restrictions on whether the person is born or not because everything has already happened. I’m not really good at explaining it tho but Eren was able to do everything because of the power of the founder and attack titan as well as the paths and is a type of time travel that exists within memories, so Eren and Zeke don’t physically time travel, it’s manipulation of memories.

    @@David-ei9fz I just went back to the series (it's been a long few weeks...) I did notice something important: Ymir's face right before giving eren the ultimate founding titan power and eren's face after kissing historia are extremely similar drawing-wise. Except she is crying: an important distinction. That may be an interesting avenue to approach.

    When did eren start manipulating himself, or should I say making his master plan? I’m confused on how he manipulated his past self while being there too. When did all of it start? When did everything Eren was doing start? Probably some dumb questions I should know, but can someone answer it for me. 😟

    Every decision leads to a specific timeline. Grisha must’ve decided to give Eren the titan in a different timeline. Once he decided to give Eren the titan that means he could see the future memories of Eren after that decision. Even tho he hasn’t given him the titan yet. Once he made that decision it was already too late. Since Eren of the future can see Grisha’s present memories. He probably knew that Grisha would change his mind based upon future Eren’s actions. So future Eren manipulated what memories could be seen by Grisha. But this also implies Grisha was actually willing to take Freida’s power at first too. Since the memory warping comes from the founding titan. So why did it show that he was hesitant to kill her? That’s bc if he can see Eren’s future, Grisha could also experience his own future decisions through his son Eren. So Grisha probably felt guilt from killing Freida’s bloodline through his future memories that resided in his son. If you think about it the only thing Eren really did was stop his dad from changing mind/decision (future Eren). Grisha essentially played himself by choosing to eat Freida

    Basically it's something called PREDETERMINED PARADOX, not that the future Eren who isn't even born yet is manipulating his Dad through glimpses of the future, instead looking at it as this was something which was always destined to happen. PREDETERMINED PARADOX.

    So if during the initial time loop( first time), grisha did not go ahead w stealing the founding titan(no interference from eren as he hasnt gotten the attack titan- initial time loop), one of the reiss would have probably killed him right? And eren would never get the attack titan? Then he would never have the power to send back these memories to grisha, so can someone explain to me how this is still possible?

    Yes but since Grisha saw the visions sent back from Eren he had no other choice but to give the attack titan to him (since its already happened which is why he is getting the visions sent by Eren). He planned to give Eren the attack titan anyway from the start.

    @@illeabbas ok, but if grisha did not eat freida initially (it is implied that grisha did not have the resolve to carry on until eren intervened with the attack/founding titan power), then likelihood is frieda or rod would have killed grisha instead, after which the whole timeline would be different and eren not getting any titan powers in the first place, am i right?

    There is no initial time loop, that's why! It always happened like that. Because of the paths, we must stop thinking in a past-future causal way. Everything is a full circle. In other words, the future already existed when the past was happening.

    Think of it as time in aot is always set. What will happen will happen no matter what, there was a 0% chance that any of the events would change. To answer your question, this is pretty much a paradox. Since time is set and the future cannot be changed, the events in the past depend on the events of the future. Instead of thinking of it like geisha has to inject eren to make him the attack titan, think of it that eren from the future HAS to influence grisha to give him the attack titan in order for the future events to occur. There is a 100% whatever eren does to influence the past will work because it will always lead to the set future. So there is not a single time where grisha dies to Reiss family, there is no initial event from the past by grisha to influence the future, the timeline is infinite. There is no “first time “, grisha receiving orders from eren would always occur and it is certain. There is no “if grisha didn’t give eren the attack titan event” because it is an impossibility. If that did happen, the rest of the events of aot would not occur, which is what you are trying to say. However, this event does not happen because the events of aot that are canon occur. The fact that eren uses his power in the future to influence the past means that grisha will never decide not to give eren the attack titan. It is just not possible for that to happen. The movie Tenet by Christopher Nolan does kind of revolve around this same principle and the concept is easier to see there in case my confusing response confused you more.

    The attack titan doesn’t have the ability to see into the future man. That’s one of the things nobody seems to understand. Eren is the end of the line. He was giving memories to make sure the future was solidified. He decided what he wanted to show his past users.

    It's called fixed timeline time travel. All events are already happened and what we are looking at is just a replay of events from ep.1 just from Eren's perspective. Eren was able to "interact" with Grisha because Grisha had the attack titan, which allows him to see future from Eren's eyes (because Eren is the next inheritor). And Eren was able to choose what memories his father will get in the moment because of founding titan power. The combination of these two powers creates a timeloop, where events can be manipulated from future without manipulator's even being born.

    @@124_80Also when it comes to Grisha being able to see Zeke, that is because the memories are sent through Eren’s own point of view, Grisha is not able to see Eren or Zeke in real time but instead just through the memories. When Eren is looking at Zeke, Grisha is able to “see” Zeke because Eren is looking in the direction of Zeke. The memories that are all sent seem to be within Eren’s own point of view which likely means the memories that Grisha receives are probably in a third person type point of view.
