    Make great video very informative for the rest of us and little bit. Sorry for all the work that you did and still made a couple of mistakes but at least we can learn a lot of us can learn from your mistakes and forget about the mistakes that you showed us how to do it, and that was the most important lesson here and I had to get those pins out and set up fashion away stop and think. And create a solution that you did a very good video buddy

    That was a terrific tutorial mate. Ingenious adaption of the vice as a press. There is a great skill in being able to use basic tools to get the job done. The comments provide a great source of info as well. I've just started the restoration of my 1981 WB 1 Tonner but I've been keeping an eye on your videos for the last few years while I've been freeing up time to start!

    Great to see you having a go. One note though, the reason you had problems getting the pins in is as you noted you had put the top pin in upside down, you did the same with the bottom one! Top one goes on from the top, bottom one goes in from underneath. The holes are slightly larger to accommodate the knurl :)

    Good shit man there's also a lot of adjustment on the plate inside the piller which the hinge bolts to and also inside the door and latch so you really have a good range of adjustment not only up and down but in and out, c ya next time.

    yea those hinge bushes will be a tight fit once you fit them similar to doing king pin bushes i found using a piece of rod slightly smaller than the pin with a slot cut in the end to hold a piece of fine emery cloth wrapped round the rod so its a firm fit in the bush and just slowly use a drill to ream it slightly help relieve the tighness

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    @BarnesysBuilds

    That sounds like a good method, it seems extremely tight, almost too much.

    Man I just saw you spray wd-40 on those hinges and I had to stop the vid and comment. No don't do that. You have a body in primer and fingers touching all sorts of places. Wd-40 contains silicon and paint and silicon hate each other. The raw primer is porous and will absorb the wd-40 and give you all sorts of problems in the future. That's why restoration procedure is, disasembley where you can use things like wd-40 then clean, then clean again, prep,clean,prime and so on. Never take crc or wd-40 into a booth. Just an observation, now back to vid.......

    yeah I went to a lot of effort to get this stuff from the states - a silicon-less aerosol to coat raw steel. Doesn't conflict with paint but you can rub it onto raw steel panels and they don't rust. Cost an arm and a leg and they would only ship it if I brought more then 10 cans. Worth it tho.

    Will you be using a tonneau cover?, The straps will rub through the paint. and if your not going to use a tonneau cover I would be welding all those holes up now. (2hrs work). much cleaner look, you will regret not doing it I think. Can always drill holes and put the clips back on after.😎.............Half a hole at a time using a piece of copper in behind to weld against, taking your time, no warpage 👌

  • @BarnesysBuilds

    @BarnesysBuilds

    Yes im going to keep the tonneau as it's paying homage to the orginal build, even though it's going to be customized i still want to retain the old school features like the toneau and side stripes, i know it will wear the paint but i have seen raptor liner sprayed about 50mm over the lip to reduce the wear. I won't be too precious on that.
