Hello Barnesy, I gave you tips when you 1st started this build that you took on board, (rotisserie, electric hoist, epoxy paint etc.) Louise Crouch is seeing what i'm seeing, you need a better plan and she gives good advice. So i will do the same that should simplify things, that will give NEARLY as good a finish. 1. skipping the fibreglassing stage should be fine if your confident you've sealed the metal with epoxy, but would give insurance if you did use f/glass. 2.key the paint with 80 grit, no less then 180 grit so your first coat of fill has really got something to hold onto. If you have NOT done this rip it off with 80grit on a orbital sander and do again, won't take long and practicing at this stage is a good thing. 3. Buy some dura blocks,(can all ways sell these items when finished. this money spent now will save a lot of time and give a better job). Buy sandpaper, 80, 180, 320grit. rolls of 3m blue stick on paper cost about $200 and a box 6" round 500grit for your orbital sander, buy the best it save's you more time then its worth. 4.All ways use the largest block possible(2ft long, 18", 12" long blocks) cris cross your sanding . watch youtube videos on these techniques. watch (my friend pete) he's crude but he's technic fool proof's it for dummy's, just saying :). 5. 40grit(6sheets of 40 grit should be enough) rip it down, 80grit add more filler, 80 grit it ,180 grit, Don't be surprised if you do this 3,4 or 5 times before you're happy with an area. 6. I suggest you buy powder for a guide coat, just powder it on when you can't see whats happening. 7. then when you think your body work is close, spray hi fill on, 3 heavy coats, block again with 180 then 320, again with biggest block possible cris cross sanding pattern. At this stage you will find area's that need more attention, 99% should be good. Don,t cheat by using a little block to rub your guide coat out. you will understand what i mean by this once you get more practice at it :). 8. soft block around wheel archers and other areas, again youtube for technics how to do these area's. And just take your time, an extra wk here and there getting your body work right now, means you can look at it for the next 20yrs and be proud of it. 9. Now you should be ready to buzz(orbital round sander) over the hole car with 500grit (dry paper) ready for paint. P.S you could wet sand from here on, pending on what paint and colour your going to use. A decision your a long way from making. Lots of ways to go about this sort of work and guys will agree and disagree with these steps because they have quicker ways of doing things but this will give an amateur a quality job. Regards Mark

Just found your channel. Good find. Sorry that A/C is aftermarket but period correct. That valve thing that you called a couple of things is the brake distribution valve. If you have a problem with the brakes (pressure difference due to a line failure) the switch in it if it was connected will bring on the brake warning light. The electric fuel pump has a lot of volume yes. The pressure though is what can cause the carburettor to flood if it was to much but the needle and seat in the carburettor will regulate the fuel level if that is working okay. Yes the mechanical fuel pump is the go if it still works but you can still purchase them if it is not working. Good luck. Cheers Stew.

Thanks for the feedback, yes i was told afterwards the AC was after market. The course of action i thought would be the best is to rip out the fuel tank, clean and repair or replace, rehook with mechanical fuel pump and should fix it. I reckon the fuel pump would be ok it was maybe just cut off as the fuel tank went bad as it was on gas. cheers

Not idling will most likely be a clogged idle circuit in the carb. Locate the idle mixture screw, wind it all the way in counting the number of turns it takes to bottom out. Now unscrew it all the way out and remove it. Next try blasting the passage clear with compressed air or carb cleaner. Reinstall the idle mixture screw, winding it all the way in and the back out the number of turns you counted earlier. Hopefully she will now idle for you. Regarding the electric fuel pump, its job is to keep the float bowl full. Provided it isn't too strong to overpower the needle and seat, then it should be perfectly fine to keep running until you address the fuel system as a whole.

Get a kit for the factory pump and blow the carby out I use a Holley reg to lower electric fuel pump outputs to suit low psi applications. That "chamber" is the duel fuel system shut off solenoid that the fuel line runs through. As for the brakes unless you get a WB master see Norm and the boys in Bendigo Specialist brake and clutch to get the original and the proportioning valve resleeved. There is a bloke that makes the brake lines up in Maryborough, any brake joint can do them but his have all the bends perfect as he does them in a jig.

that thing you pointed to down under the brake master cylinder is actually a balance and brake failure warning valve. if it detects an imbalance in fluid pressure between the front and rear brakes due to a leak or system failure somewhere it trips the switch inside, and that activates the brake warning light on the dashboard.

The fuel problem: you need a little choke to let it warm up. As for regulating the fuel pressure, it will simply be stopped by the float valve inside the carburettor. So long as the fuel line is secure, it shouldn't be a problem. Check the lines around the intake manifold, make sure there's no vacuum leaks, but otherwise, should be fine

We got them in South Africa they were sold as Chev El Camino here. For the most they were sold with a 4,1L/250 HO engine(fed by a Rochester monojet carb). A few were sold with a 308 V8. We also had the El Torro which had a tray on the back and was more of a work horse. That only came with a 4,1 and 3 on the tree. Any reason you know of why you didn't get the 4,1 in Aus? The 186 and 202 engines used more petrol than the 4,1, and were down on power too.

Either the HZ or the Land cruiser, the HZ could be a quick resto but I want to put an LS in that one.

Barnesy's Builds it’s a dealer (probably) fitted after market option. A handful of parts are different for factory a/c such as fuel sender, heater core etc so its useful to know it’s not factory so you don’t order wrong bits.
