ADDITIONAL INFO/OBSERVATIONS: With regards to the Technology, I did not talk about the ADAS systems in these vehicles. Hyundai's L2 offering is pretty good and I would compare it equally to Tesla's Autopilot. I am not a fan of Tesla's Enhanced AP nor FSD so I don't mention those. Also, the IONIQ 6 can be optioned with a Heads Up Display (HUD), which many find very useful. I too left it on all the time and it showed relevant info very well. I will say that there is some reflections from the dash onto the front windshield at times which can be bothersome. Sunglasses help take this away, but thought I would mention it. A darker coloured dash top would be better to help with this. The interior Storage Space is very good and I would say a bit better on the IONIQ 6 than the Model 3. The lower shelf of the centre console adds a lot of space, even though the door pockets in the IONIQ 6 are smaller than the Model 3.

I dont agree with that. My Ioniq 6 ADAS is pretty good, but my Tesla's basic autopilot is 100 times better. I've already been in a minor accident with my Ioniq6 because the ADAS system could not pickup large cones placed on the road for construction. Where as my tesla on the same route always picked up those same cones and steered around them. There are many more reasons why Tesla's system is so much better, but Hyundai's is a distant second

  • @EVRevolution

Thanks for your info and comments. Again, I did not use the ADAS that much and I would agree that generally Tesla works very well. I would not use anything in areas that have cones, like construction, as you are just asking for something to go wrong. On anyone's ADAS system.

@@ashrafc7794Were you asleep? Why on earth would you be relying on ADAS in an area with cones?

A great review Ken. 😊 A few weeks ago I took my Kona E into Hyundai for the winter/summer tyre change. I went into the showroom and sat in a Ioniq 6 whilst the work was being carried out. Very comfortable and impressive. 😅 😮

My AWD ioniq 6 with 20 inch wheels charged from 10 to 80 percent in 20 mins at 17 degrees C without preconditioning. 32 to 80 percent in 15 mins with preconditioning at 20 deg C. Range 280 to 295 miles at 100 kph. A very accurate test. My friend has a model 3 which is great, we love both cars. It’s a personal choice.

Thank you for a great review of the I6. Especially since you own a model 3 and can share your experience in ownership. I have been driving EV’s now for 11 years and in that time owned 2 Tesla Model S’s. Love the car, hate the company, they have the poorest customer service I have ever experienced. We recently placed a deposit on an I6. After two test drives I thought it was a better car and the dealership contained humans I could call, talk to and ask questions. Tesla does not allow you you to talk to anyone in service, you must enter your request in their app. They don’t have an experienced service manager you can talk to. Seriously?

Hi, thanks for watching and appreciate the feedback and comments. I certainly understand the service points, as I just went thru a situation that ultimately turned out ok for me, but was not at first, with them. This no talking thing has got to go. Yes, the I6 is a really wonderful BEV and I highly recommend it. Oh and thank you for being a pioneer in EV adoption and for joining the "Revolution" when it was just a small insurrection! :)

Service is number one thing why I never bought a Tesla. They were saving parts for new vehicle sales and only have couple service points in whole country. Tesla would have been very popular if they used 3rd party mechanics to build their network. Now it just such compared to any legacy brand really.

Very thorough comparison. I recently bought a Tesla Model 3 RWD and a major factor was in the USA the Hyundai does not qualify for the $7500 tax credit. I do like the Ioniq 6 though.

Picked up my Transmission Blue Limited Ioniq 6 first of May. Yes, I was concerned about Fed. $7500. rebate, but Hyundai provided a $7500. discount on a lease. I canceled the lease after 45 days for $399. so ended up with a savings of $7100. A great car, quality build and finish, good warranty and service. EVEN BETTER it doesn't look like every other Tesla on the road! It looks much better!!

Great review Ken! I'm not a fan of the styling on this, but Hyundai is doing a good job of making competitive EVs. Fascinating that so many other OEMs can't get their sh*t together. I've had my Model 3 for 5 years now (crazy to say that) and have only used my frunk once

Question... How does the ADAS system do compared to the tesla on curves requiring car to slow to make curve? I drive with my model 3 over mountain roads and it manages 20 MPH rated switchback curves beautifully.

Thanks for watching and great question. While I used the ACC/LKA mainly on open highways, it did take the gradual turns nicely. I did try it for a bit on a smaller more windy road and it held its own too. However, I would mainly use if for freeway/highway use when circumstances permit it.

on the hwy the ioniq 6 did fine. But the lane changes are horrible and thats due to the steering wheel sensitivity sensor. on tight turns, the tesla is much much better and detects objects better i found

Very good review Ken. I have a kia EV6 and would like the ioniq6 over the 5. Not sure about the Porsche back end😂. The original 2022 ev6 gt line 2 now has a BMS update by the dealer to give preconditioning. Until the minimum battery temp is over 20C you won't get maximum charge. From the obd2 readings it will heat at 5 kW until the battery heats to 20C as you navigate to a DCFC. Not sure what Kia will do for a sedan as they are on the full size SUV track for now. I feel the 20" wheels are a rougher ride on bad pavement but fine on Ontario highways at speed. I put 18" wheels for snow tires with much lighter rims and more sidewall.

Thanks John for watching and the comments. I can tell you the 20-inch A/S were fine for the crap pavements I drove around on which was a surprise. The ride on this car was stunning, really and unless you actually drive it for a bit, you would not think so.

Can the 18 inch wheels on a Model 3 be replaced using the 18 inch wheels from the Ioniq 6? I am leaning toward the Model 3, but I'm not a real big fan of the 18 inch Aero black wheels. The Ioniq 6 has the 18 inch wheels with the silver blades on them that I think look much more sleek.

  • @EVRevolution

Hello and thanks for watching. Not sure, the bolt and offset pattern is probably different on the wheels. However you would have to check the numbers on those. The AERO wheels are really nice underneath the caps, so you may still want to look at them. I have them on my Model 3, so if you look at some of my Tesla Timeout Videos, you will see what they look like without the areo caps, if you have not seen that look already. Best of luck and thanks for deciding to join the "Revolution" with your upcoming BEV purchase! :)

@@EVRevolutionThanks for the feedback! That is useful to know. I have seen the AERO wheels with the covers off. It looks nice behind it, but I do have a bit more of a preference toward the Hyundai Ioniq 6 18 inch Aluminum wheels (Part Number: 52910KL110). The bolt pattern is identical with the AERO wheels and both are at 5X114.3. The offset is tougher to find. It looks like the AERO has +40 mm from what I read and based on what I found the 52910KL110 wheels are 51 mm. I also noticed the AERO is 18X8.5 while the 52910KL110 ones are 18X7.5.

I take you did not precondition the Ioniq 6 battery before attempting to charge it, as you know Tesla will do it provided you use the on board navigation, similar with the Ioniq 6.

Thanks for watching. Yes, like I stated, I did set the DCFC as a destination, but the button for pre-conditioning was not set to on in the menu system. I forgot about that, so had that been on, then I think I would have pulled more on the first attempt. However, some EC stations have been flakey and I am not the only one to have problems with them. All in all, the DCFC speeds are very good in the IONIQ 5 and 6, as well as the Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60.

Hey Canada . . . come and drive your M3 in the mountains of BC: that's real driving. My AWD Ioniq 6 with the 18" wheels gets an average of 14.3 kWh/100km here or approx. 320 miles per 100% charge highway driving. Overall, with a mix of city and highway driving I am easily making 350+ miles. I think the 20" wheels are a range killer as folks driving their 20" wheel I6's are getting 17 or so kWh/100: about a 20% range hit. Overall the I6 is a better car while the Tesla offers a better EV experience, taking into account the charging and the EV tech bells and whistles. Pricing and financing is a win for the Ioniq though here in Canada. Unfortunately the Tesla does have that unique "smell" which seems to be getting worse over the last year or so.

@@EVRevolution Great! You guys going to do the Coquihalla? I haven't done that road yet in our EV. But I have done a couple trips to Van via #3, a much nicer road to drive as it's not just straight and fast like the Coq. Plus the Connector from Merritt to Kelowna on the Coq is not the prettiest drive. #3, on the other hand, takes you past the famous Hope Slide, up past the Manning Park resort and then down into the southern Okanagan. It's a VERY pretty road and it's got some great twisty bits. Takes about 1hr longer to get to Kelowna via #3 than via the Coq. FYI, we got 14.3 going West to Van on that road and 14.7 coming back East. We always drive 10+ the speed limit.
