Our AWD Ioniq 6 with 18" wheels gets 14 - 14.5 kWh/100km highway summer driving here in mountainous BC, Canada. I have driven the Tesla Model 3 (2021) and the Ioniq drives better, smoother, quieter and I like the console better. That being said, the Tesla seems quicker and the software and the charging network are better. The Ioniq 6 drives better and has very good efficiency.

"highway summer driving" something smells fishy here. Are you picking Summer because that gives the best figures? Surely including a season in car data sounds odd to you, it's like saying the noise of my computer at home is 37 dB in Spring. You'd rightly ask why I included the season.

Smooth and easy to drive.. I agree, this was my driving experience. However very difficult to find any engagement. I had the same issue with the driving position, the speed was always a bit covered by the wheel, and the central display home button is also quite far to get to (you can notice this in the video as well).

That is tall don’t think there are many sedans with that head room, that would be a lot of car testing. Good luck.
Borrowed my friend's Model 3 for 3 weeks and decided to purchase the Ioniq 6. My main reasons is the Ioniq 6 has buttons and knobs exactly where a normal car would have them (except for the shifter on the steering wheel instead of the middle console) because trying to get my father, father in law and non-tech savy sister in law to feel comfortable with the Model 3 was too much of a hassle and not having access to Android Auto/Apple Carplay made it more annoying to use the tablet to get things done. Also having the Hyundai dealership offer the $7500 fed rebate up front for leasing (Tesla sales person tried to steer me to buying the Model 3 and file my taxes and hope I make enough to qualify for the $7500 fed rebate) and letting me know about the $7500 CA EV rebate plus $2500 Loyalty cash for being a current Hyundai owner made my purchase price (will buy out the vehicles once the lease is up) $41.5k out the door and $34k after my CA EV rebate is approved. The cherry on top is also having 2 years of free charging (unfortunately at Electrify America) so I theoretically can use as many miles as I want with the car and buy it out in the end and not pay for "fuel" for the first 2 years and then use the additional $2k charge card from the CA EV rebate (this is a new incentive on top of the $7500) for the 3rd year. Edit: If I charge at night on a 350kWh charger I actually get the advertised 18 minute charge from 10-80% but if you're looking for an EV you're going to suffer from long waits and downed stations if you try to charge during the day.

As a tesla owner, It would be super awesome if I could just see reviews for other EVs that stop comparing them to Tesla. I've been looking to get an EV6 GT or ETron, I'm on the fence about both, but all anyone wants to talk about is how different they are from what I already have, WAY more discussion is taking place about what's better than Tesla rather than what they offer as an independent car that stands on its own merit. If somebody (like me) isn't in the market for a Tesla, 3/4 of the sales pitch is wasted air. Non-Tesla EV review videos that thumbnail Tesla as a comparison are the real world embodiment of that guy showing everyone the new girl he's dating now hoping his ex will see her and get jealous.

I have a different problem. I've never owned an EV but I'd like to get into one next. My 2010 Audi A6 has given me many good years. So my problem is that I get wow'd by all the great crossover and SUV options like the EV9 or Mach-e, not taking a minute to realize that during my 31 years of driving I've only ever bought sedans because I probably like them best. LOL. The Ioniq 6 has come onto the scene at just the right time!
"if you find a charger powerful enough" That is the killing (not killer) comment in a nutshell. It doesn't matter what the aspirations are, when it comes down to it, to become effortlessly useable, it has to be consistent in use. No point crowing about 220kWh charge rate when the matching chargers aren't ubiquitous.

Excellent detail I enjoyed your review thanks and just to note reviews don’t seem to notice how intrusive these “bongs” actually are in these new EV’s. I bought one of these cars six months ago and the bongs never stop…it constantly bongs if you put on/off the cruise control, open the door while charging, one km over the speed limit, move into a different speed limit zone, also you have to keep moving the steering wheel or it constantly warns you to put your hands back on the steering wheel by “bonging”. On most trips it warns you to “take a break” if the car wheels go near the roads studs! There appears to be an oppression with bongs!
It's wired CarPlay and Android Auto, not wireless. Hoping they push out an update though to enable it... but not holding my breath.
All too expensive for the majority of people who are working a normal job which in uk is between 18k to 30 k per annum on top
Even if nothing else is outstanding about it, it still is a gorgeous looking car! Great review, as always!

ya something seems wrong. I have the sel (less efficient wheels) and I just did 4.1 driving mostly highway (65mph). drove from 100% to 5% and got 301 miles, 286 with 15 miles remaining estimate. but my miles per kwh also has gone up since I understood the car better. my drive to work when I first got the car was 3.1, the max i hit now is 4.2. so i think he's just got the settings wrong.
Why compare the charging speed to the entry model 3 which is approx £5000 cheaper instead of the long range which is closer in price and faster?
Not true in the U.S. version and Fremont Factory is just 50 miles away whilst I-6 came from S Korea. 'Fuel' effficiency / range estimates are such chaos for electric cars. At one point this video is saying "we carefully measured the efficiency at 3.0 miles / kwh" which equates to 222 miles to EMPTY on a 74 kwh FULL charge and immediately then continues talking about the great range as if it's really 300 miles plus. Electric cars have maybe a half or a third the range of gas cars, I get it, it's ok, but this constant obscuring of any sensible comparison between cars just says the industry is a bit of a scam.

I love driving my new Ioniq 5. Great safety features, amazing pickup, plenty of passenger room, room for 2 golf bags and advertised range was comparable with other EVs on the market. When I first got the car I was getting about 3.6 miles/kwh. However, had I known then what I know now about the car, I wouldn't have leased it (thankfully I didn't buy it). What I know now is that Hyundai recommends that it be charged to 80% of full charge to minimize degradation of battery. The dealer also recommended that the battery charge not fall below 20%. What this means is that you only use 60% of the battery's capacity therefore only getting 60% of the advertised range or about 130 miles!! If I wanted to drive my Ioniq 5 from my home in NJ to my home in Florida, I'd have to recharge 10 times adding 5 hours to the travel time best case (assuming charging station was immediately available (which is never the case.) To compound the problem is that the mileage recently dropped from 3.6 miles/kwh to between 1.6 - 2.1 miles/kwh (temperature is now in the 35-45 degree range now.) Now my maximum range is about 78 miles if I keep within to 20%-80% charging suggestion. Keep this information in mind when thinking about purchasing any EV.
It doesn’t do it for me. EV6 still gets my vote

I have an Ioniq 6 and I do get mixed opinions about the back. I like it, but some don't, it really is subjective, you can't please everyone. It often gets compared to a Porsche for some reason, (although I can't see it) but I do love to hear everyone's opinions :-)
The most important thing is the battery so let’s start with that and end with that. My iPhone is 3 years old and it has degraded to 81% so what’s the degradation for this car’s battery? How much is a new battery? How many miles do you get if you are driving in the winter? How far will you get with a family of 4 towing a caravan from Nottingham to Cornwall? Will my week’s holiday be over before I get there it will I have to make do with Skegness? It took me 4 minutes to fill my car from entering the service station with an empty tank to leaving it what makes politicians think I want to hang around for hours or is that the point if it all that we give up & stop travelling? What is the impact on the environment for these things for their lifetime? What happens to all the old batteries? I know you know, the world knows we won’t see these cars being driven when they are ten years old, the people that would want to buy them couldn’t afford the batteries 😉

I think electric cars are built different

@@sa34w I can tell you the batteries degrade just as fast as a mobile phone battery they hardly get down the road before they need recharging if you tow a caravan or heavy trailers with your tools or anything else that is heavier than cotton wool

@@Thorpeman Actually , they don't - different technology. do Apple give an 8 year warranty on their batteries? No because they degrade so much after only a couple of years, but electric car manufacturers give 8 years+ warranties.

@@ThorpemanThat's less about weight than aerodynamics. I agree that a caravan would be a poor experience right now, I wouldn't bother. On the other hand, utterly loving driving our EV down through France and Switzerland. 😂 Please don't diss Skeggy though, we're heading that way later in August, already done Cornwall back in April. Apparently, none of this is possible in an EV and we're supposed to just stick to going to the local ASDA? I didn't get that memo unfortunately.😊

@djtaylorutube I'm from Nottingham I know skeggy very well but it's not the most scenic place to take your caravan or motor home
Until electric cars are affordable to buy and cheaper to insure, they are a write off for most people. Such a shame.
Now that is one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen! Aero-dynamics be damned - you'd have to drive it around with a bag on your head...
